The food was fanatastic. The service at the beginning of our meal was very good, but it took a long time to get someone to come back and fill our empty water glasses.
Delicious! We really enjoyed our meal here. I am not normally a lover of foie gras, but their appetizer foie gras brûlée was divine! Just try it! My son loved the steak frites, and their fries are amazing. I had the module which did not disappoint, and my husband had the chicken dish which was lovely. We wish we could have tried the wiener schnitzel as it looked very tasty!
This was our third visit to Brasserie Beck. Their way with seafood keeps us coming back - especially the mussels, prepared in a variety of ways and all of them delicious. The wine list is extensive and drinks are expertly prepared. Convenient to the Metro, White House and other DC attractions. Dinner for 3 with a bottle of wine set us back about $235 less tip but well worth it.
The mussels were delicious and unforgettable. Would definitely come back
Service extremely slow
Outstanding food. Leisurely service. Pretty high noise level. Reasonably priced for the high quality.
Nice atmosphere and good food. Great place for dinner or drinks.
Everything was awesome!
Great experience but we were seated right in front of the door and felt every draft when the door opened and closed.
Great mussels and frittes. Worth the repeat trip just for those. Always good!
Was sorry to see a favorite place become so noisy that talking was difficult. It seemed like some large group took over the restaurant and we were seated on the edge of their event. I didn’t remember the loud and really unpleasant music either.
Brasserie Beck never disappoints. Food and service are always great!
Service and food was amazing! Perfect spot to celebrate our sons birthday, he loves Belgium beer!
Lots of small service problems. Bizarre answers to common questions when ordering (when replying to a question about whether the frites were gluten free, he cited a figure of "1-2% gluten in the fries." What does that EVEN MEAN? No bread brought to the table, items left off the order, steady reminders required to get even a basic level of service. Plenty of time to try and upsell drinks and dessert tho. Food was merely adequate. Always frustrating when a restaurant doesn't season their food properly but chidingly doesn't provide salt at the table. You'd have thought that walnuts cost a fortune the way they were rationed on my bland endive salad. Sad broth accompanied what should have been their signature mussels. The frites were a soggy wad sweltering in their ceramic dish. The brightest spot was the bread, when it finally came. Crisp, warm and moist, it almost made up for the rest of the experience.
We (a party of three) were told that the kitchen was unusually busy, but it wasn't clear why that would have caused the 20-minute wait before we were brought wine and beer lists and first asked for a drinks order. The subsequent service was chaotic; we ordered starters and mains at the same time, but both starters and mains were brought to the table at the same time (and the mains were served first!). We sent the mains back to the kitchen until we finished the starters. When the mains were brought out (and, thank goodness, they had plainly not just been held under a heat lamp but were prepared anew), so was what one of us had ordered (and already received and consumed) as a starter. Our waiter apologized for all the confusion, but we were never clear about why it had occurred. The food, nevertheless, was outstanding.
Food was excellent, as usual. Sommelier was attentive and helpful with the wine selection. However, the waiter was inattentive. He was slow to take our before-dinner drink order (although they arrived quickly). Something happened to our dinners, though. Tables that arrived after ours were already having dessert by the time I asked about our entrees. Or dinners arrived 15 minutes later. Possibly the order was never given to the kitchen? A manager eventually gave a perfunctory apology.
Mussels were great and the accompanying frites with 3 dipping sauces were awesome!
The service was exceptional! The food was fairly good for the price. The beer and wine selection is great as well! Nice place to have a dinner and relax.
Best mussels in DC. I have the white wine mussels everytime. Also loved the lobster bisque.
The drinks were underwhelming and the wine was overpriced. The mussels were great however and the service was fair.
Excellent service, extremely good and creative food, a fine selection of Belgian beers.
We got a table way in the back corner so it was quieter than usual. Mussels good as always though not as plump as sometimes -- maybe a seasonal thing. Service could have been a tad bit more attentive but we were out of the way. Reliable as always though they no longer have valet parking because so many people use Uber.
We are familiar with Belgian food. The moules were very good, not overcooked. The oysters Rockefeller were very good. Entrees of loup de mer (bass + shellfish), wienerschnitzel, steak frits were all good. The dessert was good, but left us too full.
Beer: We liked Straffe Hendrik the best. Rare to have this on tap.
Service: We understand the European preference for staying the entire evening and thus a relaxed service. But, it took too long for us to be initially acknowledged by our server and then waited on. No beer/wine menu was presented when we sat down, even though the food menu was presented. We were served appetizers prior to getting our beer. This is disappointing. Also, we noted that we did not have bread served with our appetizers, even though we saw bread on other tables. The bread was good when it arrived, but then we did not have enough time to enjoy it with the nice sauce with the moules appetizers -- disappointing.
From our observations, the manager was giving one table in particular a lot of attention, but did not make the rounds to see how everyone else was doing, or if the servers were being attentive.
We liked the quality of the food and will probably return, but will need to be more proactive in getting timely service, which should not be the norm in a European setting.
It was an ok experience. Great steak but the bearnaise sauce was not up to par. And the pricing is too high for what you get. Probably a very good place to go to in the summer if you want to try different kinds of beer. Great selection, but again, be ready, also pricy.
Our meal was very delayed due to large parties before us and perhaps staff mistakes. Brasserie Beck managers and staff were apologetic and responsive in fixing the problem. Meal was not billed to us--appreciated the efforts to make us feel important as diners!!
Great food and stellar service. Be sure to get their fries, and try a Belgian beer.
Service very good. Got there quite late - after opera. Last to leave, but took time to enjoy a birthday treat.
Lovely dinner with friends. Excellent service and lots of menu choices for food, beer and wine
Unfortunately the food was not up to par. When informed, management made it right.
Service was very good. Got to enjoy the nice weather and sat outside.
Good food. Decent service.
This restaurant is always a favorite and never disappoints. The menu options are varied, and there was something for everyone in our small group of eight. The service was impeccable, as always, and never intrusive. The food, wine and other drinks were superb. While a large space, noise is controlled even when the restaurant is full and it is possible to have a normal conversation at the table without having to endure loud conversations from others. Highly recommend for all of these reasons.
The mussels aux vin and the Belgian fries were amazing! The draft and bottled beer selection is limitless. The delicious and salty grilled Brussels sprouts had me drinking lots of suds. :)
Lack of valet was disappointing and unexpected.
Fantastic food and service. I want to go back again and again. Hannah provided a fantastic experience. I hope to have her as a server again.
Excellent food that was outside regular yet in a comfortable everyday setting. Outstanding beer menu, tasty cocktails. I had the Trout Almandine and it was excellent.
BB has a full range of Belgian beers which we love to try. The sommelier? or beer expert is extremely knowledgeable. Their menu is typical Belgian/French which is a delicious blend between French and Northern European/German and just the right amount of portions/size. The lobster bisque en croute is just fabulous with a puff pastry baked on top of the ceramic dish. The onion soup includes shallots for extra flavor. So far we've had the Poulet au Champignon, Beer Braised Short Rib, Grilled Pork Chop, and
Wiener Schnitzel and absolutely loved every one.
We went to Brasserie Beck 10 years ago and were thrilled to discover the food and overall experience was as wonderful as we remembered! The mussels and frites were as good or better as any we had in Belgium. There were also several beers that we haven’t seen on a list since we were in Europe. Love this restaurant!
Great mussels, frites and bread. Great beer and wine list as well. Go to place with solid food.
Brunch was delicious
