Brasserie Beck Ratings and Reviews
What a great find. As an occasional visitor to DC for business I was looking for something new and the menu at Brasserie Beck caught my eye. My colleague and I decided to give it a try. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. From the moment we walked in we were impressed with the friendliness and attention exhibited by everyone from the host to the servers, to the bus people. Our server was totally charming and made the most wonderful recommendations. The food was excellent as was the presentation. I had never heard of skate wings but did not regret going with the recommendation. Service was fast with just the right amount of attention. Portions were well sized and while we were full, we couldn't resist the poached pear dessert; a delightful combination of the most unlikely flavors that was out of this world. The French press coffee was excellent. The beer and wine lists are extensive. We had a wonderful Belgian beer that our server had recommended. I would highly recommend this restaurant!!
Nice menu and overall good food. Waiter was very accommodating about our desire to talk a bit among friends before ordering. However, later, there was almost a 30 minute wait between when we finished our appetizers - only 3 or 6 in party had appetizers - and when main courses showed up.
Food was fantastic! Service was okay. The hostesses did not appear to be having a very good night...maybe busy, overworked, whatever. In any case, it was not a very welcoming of receptions, and the table we were brought to had bird doo on it so i took it upon myself to move to another table, but the food made up for it. All in all, I'd go back.
It was a nice fall evening, so my party of three decided to sit outside for dinner. The ambiance was nice and the service was attentive. To start with, we each ordered a dirty martini and something was very off. A dirty martini is not meant to be sweet, but this one sure was. We sent the martinis back and this time they were a little less sweet, but still not quite right. I suggest ordering either wine or beer as clearly the restaurant has trouble making cocktails. Food wise, our table started with the Warm Raclette Cheese and Belgian Frites. The raclette was good, but the portion was the on the smaller side. Fries are usually just fries, but what set this fries apart was the dipping sauces which were a tasty addition. For my main course, I split the New York Strip Steak Frites with my mother. It was a big portion, so I suggest splitting it with another person unless you have a large appetite. The steak was cooked just right and the Béarnaise sauce accompanied the steak well. Our other dining companion had the Classic White Wine Mussels which she enjoyed. For dessert, we had the an eclair, which was tasty albeit nothing out of this world. Overall, the dining experience was pleasant minus the dirty martini kerfuffle. If I were in DC more often I might give Brassiere Beck another chance; however, the next time I am in town I will be trying something new. I should note, I found the prices to be on the high side, especially for the wine.
Our waiter was excellent. The order for one person in our party was delayed only 5 minutes and they gave us that meal complimentary.. . .I have never had that kind of service for only a 5 min delay. The staff could not be more accommodating. Food was just terrific, especially the desserts! Highly recommend.
As always, Oyster Fest, never disappoints. This is the second year my friends and I have enjoyed this wonderful food event. Brasserie Beck's ambiance for this event and just a leisurely meal is always enjoyable. The oysters were perfection and everything else we ordered was good. The only disappointment I had was not getting there early enough to sit outside, the experience would then be complete :-) Hopefully next year!
Birthday lunch.... Had the wild mushroom Mussels and they were outstanding. They had two sizes, we went with the small but so could have eaten the large. For birthday dessert I ordered the éclair with chocolate ice cream which came with melted chocolate poured at the table , Very yummy.
Had a business dinner here and my clients were impressed and thanked me for taking the time to pick an awesome restaurant. Everyone picked a meal that was top notch. We choose two delicious desserts to share and that was just enough to end the entire dinner experience on a sweet note. I will return here.
