Excellent food and supportive service for two of us plus a two-and-a-half year old. We enjoyed the prix fixe dinner options; great flavors in an elegant presentation. Service made us feel welcome even with a toddler, though the access to the restaurant is not easily navigated with a stroller (or wheelchair). The bar makes a wonderful Manhattan. Our waiter was a bit overzealous, asking how the food was when we barely got a first bite, but otherwise very good.
The food was excellent. Service was very efficient. The noise level was low enough to allow comfortable conversation
Good food for buffet. Nice carving stations omelette and easy to stay on my limited diet but also good for my husband sweet tooth. Only issue was poor upkeep bathrooms but personally I think customers should be more considerate
Expansive and elegant decor. Host was friendly and engaging; sat us quickly. We were there for the brunch buffet.
Servers were responsive even though we were a large party.
Food was good but the selection was not a varied as I would have loved. The carving station was on point:
Lamb, prime rib and turkey were good.
Some of the sides missed the mark. Paella was bland, a couple of the pasta dishes were overdone and mushy.
Omelette were good.
The food was okay, but there was nothing offered that knocked my socks off.
I made a reservation at Brasserie 8 1/2 for a late Valentine's celebration with my boyfriend of 3 years. We are long distance and don't get to see each other very often due to these circumstances. I have dined at Brasserie 8 1/2 before multiple times and never had any issues. However, this time my boyfriend and I were completely ostracized by the manager and our server. We aren't sure if it was because of our age, the way we looked (not entirely dressed up, but certainly not casual), or the fact that I forgot my purse at home. Our server came to our table a total of two times and barely spoke to us, but visited the table next to us several times. We had to wait well over fifteen minutes just to get our water refilled by the manager, who spent a majority of our meal whispering to our server and staring at us. The experience was incredibly uncomfortable and most of the food was severely undercooked (waxy green beans, anyone?) All I wanted was to treat my amazing boyfriend to a lovely dinner, however the food was "meh" at best and the service was awful. The only thing they got right was the ambiance, but they even lacked music. It was totally silent. To Brasserie 8 1/2: stop judging people based on their age/appearance/whatever made you judge us. It is not your place. Your job is to provide service that is nothing but delightful - that is what we pay you for, after all. No customer should leave your restaurant feeling as awful as we did that night. Do better, it is 2019. Just so you know, we are both well into our twenties and have seen plenty of success - so your judgement was completely unfounded.
This place is under rated. The food and service is wonderful. I think people think of it as a business lunch venue but it’s really a good place for a delicious dinner
8 1/2 is one of the most under-appreciated gems in the city, maybe because it's more than 6 months old. It's location is on some of the most expensive real estate on the planet (57th and 5th) yet it offers a pre-fixed, 3-course meal for all of $42.00. It is easily the best value in town. In addition, it offers more privacy than 95% of the restaurants in the city, including for parties of 2. Tired of going out with your partner and being seated at a table just a few inches away from strangers? Then this is the place for you. You can also have a conversation without having to shout over annoyingly loud music. The servers are always friendly and attentive. So to summarize: excellent food, value, service and ambiance.
Great food and great service. Brasserie 8 1/2 never disappoints.
Ordered the V-day prix fixe. The waitress forgot the first item on the menu, then said that she had already brought it. We just let it go because it wasn’t worth the trouble for whatever the champagne cocktail was. The food that we actually did receive was ok at best, but not at all worth the price. The dessert was the best course which, while welcomed, is a telling indication of the food there.
While the restauarant was styled well, I should have paid more attention to reviews online that warned that the food was lacking. We won’t be back.
Always amazed when I dine at Brasserie. The Valentines Day Prefix was perfect. There were some new dishes on the menu I do hope they plan on keeping. Excellent ambiance. One of my favorite places close to Carnegie Hall.
Great Valentine’s Day meal. Our server Sarah was amazing and so sweet. The chocolates 🍫 were delicious!
We were a party of 4, and each of us exclaimed over the excellent food and service, the superb value and the elegant ambiance. Best of all, we could hear and could carry on a conversation, wow! We will return, the food quality was truly outstanding. So civilized, our new favorite midtown spot.
Excellent. Beautiful. Will return
Very nice place. Well spaced quiet tables. Good food and drink. Fine service.
Lovely venue. Great brunch with many excellent choices. Highly recommend .
The food was good, however, we were very disappointed with the deserts. Also there should be more servers so the lines would be shorter.
Great Brunch value.
Quality and Service was very good. Not sure why on a Sat night at 8pm there were 10 people in the restaurant but it was pretty quiet for such a large space. Kind of sad watching the servers and bartenders trying to look busy.
We ordered salmon and it tasted "old", like it had been kept in the fridge for some time. It was spoiled but tasted like cardboard. Very disappointing! Won't return to this restaurant, despite it being a place we go to frequently.
Everything was as we had hoped, quiet spacious elegant setting, excellent for talking, excellent service and food was wonderful. We loved it.
Food beautifully presented ,came in a timely manner ,waiter couldn't have been nicer .....food was cooked to perfection , delicious
Despite it being restaurant week and quite crowded, we had a very nice dining experience. We enjoyed the crab cakes and tuna as our main courses. Both were perfectly prepared. We had previously enjoyed drinks and oysters at the bar which made a nice start to a pleasant meal. This is one of our favorite places in the Carnegie Hall area, usually quiet and relaxed, but a little busier for restaurant week. Service though remained excellent.
We enjoyed the last day for NYC Restaurant Week to order from the special menu.
The Lobster Ravioli appetizer was a generous portion and well prepared. The duck breast main was delicious, served with a berry currant reduction. Dessert was a generous portion as well.
Brasserie 8 1/2 never disappointed us.
The food is always good. One of my favorites. Never a disappointment. We try to go as often as possible. Service is great.
THERE IS NOT MANY WORDS TO SAY ABOUT THIS OASIS OF A GEM ON 57TH ST. SO I'LL USE THE ONE I USE FREQUENTLY TO DESCRIBE BRASSERIE 8-1/2 EXCELLENT IN EVERY AREA FOOD, SERVICE, AMBIANCE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT KALE SALAD WITH THE GRAIN MUSTARD DRESSING AS PART OF THE REGULAR LINE UP AND IF THE CHEF'S ARM COULD BE TWISTED A LITTLE TO PLACE THOSE FORK TENDER SHORT RIBS ON THE MENU AS PART OF THE REGULAR LINE UP I JUST KNOW A BUNCH OF CUSTOMERS WOULD BE REALLY HAPPY.
Cod wrapped with prosciutto was excellent
Good Food. Went during Restaurant week and had the lamb shank with cannello beans.
Amazing experience! Delicious food, wonderful service, and a great overall experience!
Good restaurant week value with many choices
Very nice place with low noise level. One nice feature is having the Restaurant Week menu on the menu we were given. We didn’t have to plead for it as many restaurants require. Happy Hour until 7 helped reduce our liquor cost.
Chinese New Year
A really fantastic experience with great Restaurant Week menu! The cod was outstanding!
Thank you, Chef!
Amazing food, good vibe and wonderful
l service from the gentelman who looks like the lead from King and I.
Best brunch and best deal in town!!
Beautiful place and great food! Open and spacious; a real treat for Manhattan. We sat in a big booth and had privacy and could hear the conversation! It had a nice bar too away from the diners.
This restaurant is a GEM!!! It's a bit hidden, being downstairs in a building where the signage out front is not great. Perhaps that is why it was not as crowded as I would have thought on a Saturday night during restaurant week. But I was so very impressed with the food; I had chestnut soup, duck with red cabbage, and creme brulee and my wife, whose birthday it was, had lobster ravioli, filet mignon, and Crepes with quince and cranberries. But in addition, our waitperson brought out a plate of small desserts (4 little brownies, 2 fruit tarts, and 2 mouse layer cakes). Words cannot express how delicious this all was and for the restaurant week price was such an amazing bargain! The wait staff were courteous, and efficient without being intrusive. All in all I will definitely go back to this restaurant the next time I'm in NYC!!!
Our first time, and the food and overall experience was wonderful. We'll definitely return on a future visit to NYC.
very nice, friendly restaurant with good food, good drinks and good portions.
