Excellent food and service.
We had a strange experience when we arrived at the restaurant: the young woman at the front desk insisted that we sit in the lounge rather than our table, which we'd reserved, because, as she put it, "the kitchen is backed up." When we objected, she re-iterated this sentence; at this point a man came over and seated us. Let me point out that there were lots of available tables at this time and throughout dinner.
It is a pleasant restaurant and we thought that the pricing was reasonable. We were both very pleased with our first course. My filet mignon was slightly overdone but still good but came with a stalk of broccoli rather than string beans as stated in the menu. My husband was extremely dissatisfied with his main dish, the bouillabesse. It had a large piece of bread in a small amount of broth, very little fish and seafood, and no aioli on the side as is customary. The explanation was that the aioli had been incorporated into the broth. Not the traditional presentation.
The dessert, tarte tatin, was very good and the wine quite good. Also the wines seemed reasonably priced.
The food is excellent. The architecture is fabulous. The service is exceptional. Really elegant, caring and friendly.
Although I have dined at Brasserie 8 1/2 several times with different friends, it has always been a pleasant experience with great food, service and ambiance. Recently at lunch, the seafood was wonderful, cooked to the perfect degree of doneness. The restaurant is spacious and that allows for quiet conversation. This restaurant is a gem.
This spot always pleases/good food/good service/lovely ambiance/our “go to”restaurant for meeting special friends
our favorite place since it opened. wonderful gravlax and bouilliabaisse on the new menu.
I always have a wonderful meal at Brasserie 8 1/2. On this last visit we had their lobster special and BYOB, which made for a very reasonably priced for dinner. The appetizers and lobster were all delicious, and the service, as always was helpful, efficient and non-intrusive. Overall, a really enjoyable evening.
The buffet was magnificent. The shrimp and croissants were first class. Desserts and omlets were there for the taking. Fresh fruit and a myriad of other Delectables were there for the taking. The elevator groaned when I left.
Love the decor too. Modern ,fresh, cheery vibe. The peach mimosas were fantastic. Wonderful viriaty of food choices.
Watch out for salty food
This is my go to restaurant when meeting friends--never have we been disappointed. Looking forward to our next visit.
Brassiere 8 1/2 is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is good, the booths and tables are comfortable, and it’s wuiet enough to be able to hold a normal conversation. Highly recommend.
We’ve recommended your restaurant to all of our friends
Went for the $39 Lobster and BYO Monday night special. this was a real bargain. the lobster was amazingly fresh and flavorful. Plus for that price we also got a choice of appetizer and they gave a small serving of butternut squash soup. All of the food was fantastic. The service was excellent as well. The décor and atmosphere are lovely. I will certainly be back!
Took our niece and her fiancé from LA who are foodies. They loved it as we always do. Quiet elegant room , great wait staff and servers. Good food and value. A place for New Yorkers and their out of town guests.
Excellent service and food. Will be our new Sunday brunch destination. Alrsady recommended to a client today
Went for Sunday brunch which is usually mediocre at best but we were all pleasantly surprise at the the quality of the food. From shrimp cocktail to Eggs Benedict to Leg of Lamb all were top notch.
My sister and I enjoyed a lovely meal at Brasserie 8 1/2. Classic French-American cuisine with great prix-fixe options and, in honor of the most fabulous show ever made, a delicious Cosmopolitan!
We had a lovely low key evening. The surrounding were elegant and the noise level was so wonderful. Normal levels of conversation were possible. The staff was attentive and friendly. The meal was creative and delicious. It was clear the chef loved his/her work and was proud to
Present it to patrons.
No surprises, consistently great food. Very pleased with the quality, presentation and smooth service. These are main reasons for us to patronize Brasserie 8 1/2.
Thank you to everyone involved.
I've been going to Brasserie 8 1/2 off and on for about three years, ever since the sad demise of its former partner restaurant The Brasserie on East 53d which was my go-to place for many years. And there's a lot to like here, especially the extremely comfortable and welcoming ambience, as well as the convenient location for midtowners. Unfortunately some service glitches, combined with very uneven food quality, drove me away for a while. However, upon giving the place another chance recently, I was happy to discover that the table service was much improved -- professional and personable at the same time (shout out to our server Antonio) -- and that the food has made strides, though still not quite where it should be for these prices. Specifically, the first course lobster cocktail that sounded so promising on the menu turned out to be completely devoid of any flavor. All the ingredients were there, just no fun. Fortunately the main course filet mignon was excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned with just the right accompaniments. So there is hope. Will definitely be back and hope the positive trend continues .... One final note to management, the gentleman greeting diners in the upstairs lobby had no idea what he was doing, couldn't find my reservation at first and then (after sending me downstairs to be seated) told my later-arriving guest I wasn't there. Not the best first impression .....
Consistently absolutely wonderful. Great food and service. Beautiful decor, and peaceful and Quiet. In a word: PERFECT!
Food disappointing.. for the second time! My salmon was room temperature rather than served hot, it was supposed too be broiled NOT in a broth but was in a broth with overcooked vegetables. My friend's prix fix started with A SCALLOP, 1 scallop? I don't think so! Her desert was basically just whipped cream. I love the ambiance quiet and good service BUT really, the food has become increasingly below average. it used to be good and served hot.
We keep on going and going again this gem in NYC. We love the food and the wine list is stunning !
Very pheasant for drinks, excellent food and excellent service. Central and well frequented yet not loud (we could all have a nice conversation). Good price/quality ratio. Will definitely go back to try other thing.
Sunday Brunch has something for everyone -- a lots of it. Truly a feast. Some dishes are prepared and set out as a buffet (hot breakfast dishes, smoked salmon and shrimp, and a delicious variety of salads). Then there is an omelette station and a carvery (turkey, beef, lamb) and the side dishes for those are also set out in chafing dishes. Very appealing.
Extremely slow service in an almost
Another win for Brasserie 8 1/2! The food, ambiance and service were no different after Restaurant Week. The restaurant treats every customer like a VIP, which is why we will return in two weeks, only because we're in Miami next week. The entire staff is warm and welcoming. No matter what you choose on the menu, you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! A must-try is the macaroni and cheese with truffle butter. De-licious!!!!
Great service, quiet and spacious. Didn’t feel rushed. Food is excellent. Waiter even brought us an extra dessert for free.
I have been many times to Brasserie 81/2 it has always been a place which was consistent and classy good for all occasions
We often come to this beautiful space for family celebrations. The food is tasty and varied, the room is comfortable and the service is friendly and efficient.
4 people, we all went for the Sunday Brunch The food was great and lot of variety. The omlet yo order and crepes table people where really nice. I wanted to tip them but they didn’t accept.
Fresh shrimp and good turkey at the carving station. Maybe a bit on the salty side.
Lots of deserts but nothing really special.
A big minus - I always try to be nice to staff because it’s not a easy job but At our table there was no service, when our waiter finally arrived, I asked: “can we have some water please” When I get to it he answered!!
I asked him after, is it busy today, are you doing ok ? “ Its like you see! “ he replies. My guests where entertained.
It’s not big deal but then..
overall it’s a nice lively place.
I don’t think I’ll go back
Have been there for lunch , dinner , and Sunday Brunch. Would highly recommend as the food and service is always fantastic.
The selection of food was vast. The quality was very good. I would highly recommend this place to any friends
Reservations for Sunday brunch buffet was for 11 AM and arrived a bit early but doors did not open until a minute or 2 before 11. Once inside we were seated promptly at a corner booth for 2. The restaurant is downstairs from the entrance but we were told there was also elevator access. The décor was quite nice and bright which was nice contrast to the weather outside. The selections of food was just as described in their website and all were very tasty, especially the made to order crepes and omelets. Since it's all you can eat, be sure to save room for their 18 varieties of desserts. Note that no beverages are included but it was $35 for all you can eat and in NYC, that's a very reasonable price. We'll definitely be back.
Have never had a bad meal nor bad experience here. Have here at least 10-12 times in the pst 2-3 years for various occasions.
I have gone to this restaurant for many years. It is not only spacious and beautiful, but the service is excellent, the food outstanding and for what you get it is a very good value. Probably my most favorite restaurant in Manhattan.
2018 08 17: with Mimi and Hal. Anne and I shared the field greens and the crab cake as apps. Anne had the halibut, which she liked; and I had the yellow fin tuna, which was very good. We shared a bottle of Sancerre, and Anne and I had the chocolate molten cake. All was very good
Came for NYC Restaurant Week and decided that we will make this our Friday date night spot until further notice! The food, ambiance and service were equally impeccable. The manager recommended a wine pairing that went very well with our meal, then he surprised us with a dessert wine that complimented our dessert perfectly. Most people don't go back after restaurant week...but we will be back! You can't put a price on a beautiful evening, and to be honest, for the location, the prices are definitely worth every penny! Thank you to our server and the manager, who happens to be an expert on wine pairing, for an unforgettable evening!
The service is excellent. Everyone was so nice! The food was delicious. The ambiance was very pleasing. My only complaint would be the bread. I’d suggest to keep them a tad bit warm. But the cold bread doesnt take away from anything honestly because it was worth it.
