My friend and I highly recommend Brasserie 8 1/2! From the moment we arrived we were treated extremely well. We received a tasting of the chefs gourmet soup of the day. Our martinis were chilled perfectly. We ordered lobster bisque soup; baby green salad and monk fish wrapped in poscuitto! Every dish was perfection!
Just enjoyed the smart and pleasant atmosphere, attentive staff and good food beautifully presented.
ALways a delightful experience. Good food - love the prix fixe and enjoy the ambiance.
A lovely dining experience in every way. Cuisine, service, ambience, it had it all.
The food was very good, but the service was extremely slow and inattentive . The restaurant seemed understaffed. Everyone in our party ordered steak and each was cooked to perfection. Sides and appetizers also delicious. We were seated immediately for our reservation and greeted promptly by our server, who offered us a choice of sparkling, still or tap water. That came quickly as did the bottle of wine we ordered, but that's where it ended. The wine was delivered by another server, who left without taking our order. Our original server did not come back for another 15 min. We could see she was busy with other tables. The restaurant was only about 1/2 full, but from what we could see - there were two waiters covering the entire restaurant, (plus a couple of bussers). Once we were finally able to order - the food delivery was extremely slow as well. We finally had to ask a bus person to find our waitress, as we had a show starting soon at Carnegie Hall. My sister had to skip the dessert that came with her prix-fixe meal because we did not have time. A 6:30 reservation should have been more than sufficient to make an 8:30 show only a block away.- even on a Sunday night. Really disappointed.
The restaurant is extremely attractive. The food is very good. I knew the prix fixe before going in, and had no problem with that. But I was infuriated to learn that there was an additional charge for COFFEE--this was brunch! Coffee (or tea) is part of the meal.
Charging for it is cheap and demeaning.
Very nice brunch with high quality food and great dessert spread but no beverages are included at $35. Coffee is an additional $4. NY or not, this is ridiculous. Coffee is inexpensive and easy; it should be included. Service is good throughout the restaurant but surly waiters make no effort to ensure diner comfort (until the bill is brought to the table that is). Overall, with small reservations, I do recommend it
First time at this spacious restaurant with both tables and booths, great for a private conversation and relaxing before a concert at Carnegie Hall. Prompt but polite service made our prie fixe dinner very enjoyable even though we were 15 minute late. The pear salad and the golden beet terrine appetizers were beautifully presented and very piquant. Our filet mignons were perfectly cooked and the tiny stacked squares of potato were topped with a tasty little onion. Ending with chestmut meringues was a wise choice, just the right amount of sweet to compliment the meal. Truly enjoyed the quiet and the simple but elegant surroundings.
Restaurant not busy. Still all other tables were served while we had to ask several times what was going on with our order.
Then 1 guest ordered rear salmon it was fully cooked, dry and the exact contrary.
By the time they served us, she decided to not eat rather than have us wait another long time.
Very disappointing and not what you expect from such a restaurant!
Never disappoints. A great place for a business lunch or gathering
Brasserie 8 1/2 is a gem. The decor is fabulous, there's a huge original Leger on the back wall.
Food and service are exceptional. The pre-fixe is a great value. If you're looking for a civilized, elegant dining experience then this is the place.
Our dinner has been an outstanding experience from every point of view.
I have been to 8 1/2 at least a dozen times and keep coming back for a special occasion.
Great food, and really nice atmosphere
I love this restaurant. Only preference would be to have our server use less perfume or none at all. The perfume was strong and detracted from the dining experience.
Food was very good and service was casual elegant. I think given it's location it's more lively during the week for business dinners and lunches.
I have been dining at Brasserie 8.5 since i 2000 when it opened and have never had a bad experience. Wonderful food and great atmosphere Looking forward to the next 18 years.
The Sunday French menu was an eye opener. Foir gras app and individual beef wellington were sensational. Great breads to start with, too. Portions are very generous and price very reasonable, especially with free BYO promotion. Elegant spacious venue, first class service and maybe the last place in Manhattan where you can have a quiet conversation while you dine. All right across from Carnegie Hall and a short cab ride to Lincoln Center.
Excellent experience. Food was great except for the Paella which was bland and had many empty clam shells. Service was great. I recommend the mimosas.
Brasserie 8 1/2 is our favorite restaurant in NYC. The food, service, and ambiance are always wonderful. On this occasion, we were entertaining family from Los Angeles for brunch and they loved it. The selection of food was terrific, the staff was friendly and helpful, and everything was delicious. It is always a pleasure to come to Brasserie 8 1/2, a restaurant that truly epitomizes fine dining in an atmosphere of casual class. Thank you very much.
I went for dinner with a friend. Loved the location! Felt sort of speak easy, because it is hard to be noticed, unless you know about it! I order duck breast and enjoyed its flavor. Good presentation and portions! Would go back!
We always enjoy Brasserie 8 1/2. This was our 4th visit with a party of friends and family from New York, Texas and Virginia. We all agreed the food was superb, the servers were gracious and knowledgable, and the ambiance was lovely.
A treasure. Hadn't been here for about a year and it was wonderful, as usual. This was a lunch with an old friend. We both had a fine Bouillabaisse. I'll be back soon. Would recommend it to anyone interested in civilized dining.
Service and food both great. One of our favorite restaurants
Kenny the general manager is fantastic. He makes sure ypur experience is a good one and he roams the floor regularly, not hiding out in some back office. The food here is always excellent, and the pricing is very fair. This most recent visit was on Valentines Day, and yet in addition to the special menu, you could order anything off the regular menu if you preferred. Not many other places do this, was appreciated by my date who didn't want 3 courses. Wine selection is also good here. And the bar happy hour offerings are also great. Easy to forget about this place because it is below ground, but you shouldn't. Highly recommend.
I felt I was on board a 1 hour flight and the meal service had to be completed before landing.
the airline imagery was reinforced by the awful food. no sooner had our order been placed than
the first course arrived. the main course was served almost before the appetizer plates were cleared. the first course foie gras was served next to a sloppy spongy unidentifiable disk of something or other. the main course lobster was okay but the beef wellington was not edible.
dessert, the course that should seal the fond memories of a meal was the worst. a chocolate mousse cake was a confusion of flavors and textures that simply did not please. a recommended
crepe souffle looked to have been manufactured months ago at some distant factory. it was deplorable. all in all a misery of a dining experience.
I came to Brasserie 8 1/2 for a Valentine’s day dinner with high expectations.. not only did Brasserie exceed my expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed the options that were available on the prix-fixe menu. I enjoyed a lovely meal consisting of crispy oysters, foie gras, beef Wellington and a lovely slice of chocolate cake! My waiter was attentive and had a lovely sense of humor, the ambiance was incredible, and my flute of Prosecco was the best palate cleanser.. although the kitchen was running just a tad bit behind, I myself am in the restaurant business and could not hold it to them, especially on a busy night.
Thank you to the Brasserie 8 1/2 team for my incredible experience and I cannot wait to come back and eat more amazing food!
Great food and good service.Ive been there many times and the food is delicious all the time.
We went on a valentines date and they exceeded our expectations. The food was great, the dinner menu was tailored to the occasion and the service was outstanding. Our waitress and staff was very attentive, but not overwhelming.
Nice place, very good food, good service. You're not going to get any bargains here, but then again you're not going to get any bargains in restaurants this close to Central Park and hedge fund land. Fine for business, better for date night.
Lunch was a lingering affair. The atmosphere was perfect and server was very attentive. We only ordered salads, but they were perfect and delicious. Coffee and water refills were timely.
Go down the stairs for a special restaurant
The food was delicious, the service courteous and efficient and the three course prix fixe menu was good value for money at $42, considering that this is an up-market restaurant. I booked this for an early Valentine's Day celebration and my wife loved it (as indeed did I).
I know this place for 15+years. Excellent sevice, ambience, food -superb value for the money
Great food and great value
The menu provided a variety of food that we both enjoy. The food was tasteful and the service was friendy and attentive.
This is our favorite restaurant in New York: not trendy, always reliable, relaxed atmosphere and excellent food. Long may it thrive.
Never disappoints. Lovely dinner
It's not as good as expected. I am actually disappointed that the so-called French cuisine is not that authentic. Worst restaurant-week choice ever.
Really like here. Probably the favorite restaurant in the City. Good food with good evironmemt. Suitable to date our friends gather together!
