Brasserie 8 1/2 Ratings and Reviews
I go here regularly because it's a beautiful space and it's quiet enough to have a conversation. there were times the service was too slow, but after complaining, the service has improved. the fixed price lunch is very good value. my last meal wasn't up to standard - undercooked steak - but I was too lazy to complain.
Excellent long attended restaurant in the heart of midtown. We have never had a off night of dining over the years. If anything, the service seems even better but that may be our imagination as we truly enjoy the ambience. It is difficult to order anything else besides the duck but over the years, we have done so. Try to avoid those times when the bar is jammed (just after work). One can always enjoy quiet conversation in the booths.
Restaurant was all encompassing on presentation, ambiance and service. Can’t wait to go back and have Sarah as our waitress again. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. I left completely full and satisfied. I already suggested it to a co-worker. Would love to try another location within the family.
We had a very nice evening at Brasserie 8 1/2. The service was wonderful, our waiter was sweet and very helpful. The food was delicious and for NYC, fairly reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice. We appreciated that the tables were not jammed together and it was quiet enough for a good discussion. I would highly recommend!
Over the years I have visited 8 1/2 several times and been satisfied.
This time it was different and not up to earlier level.
The service was not involved, acted in best case uninterested, robotic in their appearance.
The food "medium".
So I am afraid it was the last visit, at least for some years.
My husband and I had lunch at Brasserie 8 1/2. It was convenient to our hotel so we decided to try it. The onion soup was a very generous portion and delicious - lots of cheese and a good broth, although to my taste the onions were a bit heavy on rosemary. The salmon was good but my sole meuniere (the daily special) was just OK. I expected the traditional preparation but this was more like a mediterranean version. I have a hunch the fish was purchased frozen. The wine was OK but priced a bit high. Anyhow, lunch for 2 (2 onion soups, salmon and sole and a half bottle of wine - $47)) came to $180 including tip. I considered that pretty high, even for New York.
Lovely bar where you can enjoy a drink before dinner. Great choice for dinner before a performace at Carnegie Hall or City Center - tables are nicely set apart which permits conversatin without being on top of another table. We enjoyed the scallops and tuna as our main courses. Both were excellently prepared. Nice selection of wines by the glass to accompany your entree.
Lunch at Brasserie 8 1/2 has wide offerings, to date, all have been marvelous. There are also daily specials. The service is quiet, efficient and very pleasant - always appropriately attentive. Two main courses were trout and skirt steak - both were extremely attractively presented and delicious. The peche melba dessert was spectacular but not overwhelming. There remains a remarkable combination of formality, efficiency , professionalism and welcoming warmth.
The Sunday evening BYOB meal featured chef's choices as special offerings - all were typical of the quality and creativity we have come to expect. The beef Wellington was delicious with the puff pastry and delicious beef. The duck confit was attractively presented and delicious. The chocolate in the dessert was perfect and beautifully presented. Simply perfect
We usually come for lunch or dinner and love Brasserie 8 1/2, but this time, were quite disappointed when we had brunch there. The buffet style is nice, but understaffed. Service
was very slow, and truly $34 for my 11 year daughter who just had a bagel and a dessert!!
Really? Also, my understanding was the mimosa was included with the brunch but since
I had kids with me, I asked for orange juice instead and was charged for those!
Then waited forever for the check, finally had to get up to have my credit card processed.
Not the greatest experience!
WE were celebrating my sister's special birthday with 6 females. We thought the food variety was great from their delicious french toast to omelets as well as luncheon foods such as shrimp cocktail, mac & cheese, salads, carving stations etc. The manager approached us and told us to take just a small sample of everything and then go back for the things that we really enjoyed.
We also had a bottomless mimosa which was served in a pitcher and my cousin ordered a bloody mary that she said was great. The desserts were awesome and we had trouble deciding which calories to imbibe.
The service was fair and our waiter wasn't very attentive. We had to serve ourselves which was fun but he didn't have much personality and wasn't fun.
Otherwise the dining experience was great and we would definitely recommend and go back again.
