Excellent brunch and value for NYC
Good place for a nice special birthday dinner
Noise level was perfect
A lovely restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is great.
Excellent service! Jose our waiter was fantastic and provided great service! Love the food, service and decor!
The 20yr old restaurant is still in good shape, the booths need special attention before seating
Ours was dirty from crumbs
This is an elegant and quiet French restaurant in mid-Manhattan. To get there you enter off the street, but then descend an elegant spiral staircase to the lower floor. Very attractive decor. wife and I ate their whreile on a recent trip to New York. We made reservations last minute on a Friday night, but had no difficulty getting a table. We expected "New York prices," and that was true. The food was excellent. Salad, tuna tartare, sea bass, scallops. Nice French wine (Pouilly fuisee). The restaurant was under-staffed. The staff were polite and attentive, when they were present, but the service was slow. We very much enjoyed our meal.
On the downside, however, we had a somewhat unusual experience. The parties sitting at tables on either side of us were noticeably upset with the service and the food. Both tables complained to the waitstaff about this. They were treated courteously and attempts we made to make amends. I could not tell precisely what the complaints were about, but they were quite unhappy. The table closest to us did not get her wine, after repeated inquiries, her food was overcooked, and she waited a long, long time for service.
Our experience was quite pleasant, if a bit slow; perhaps there is more going on here than we could see. I would have given the place 5 stars if not for the slow service and the surrounding complaints.
Very disappointed. It took them 25 min after we sat down to come take our drink order. Service overall very slow, even though i made it clear upon arrival we only had 2 hours due to a show after dinner (2 hrs should have been plenty of time). Still, we were there for almost 2:20 without dessert.
The entire experience was horrid. No service, inedible app. That took 30 minutes, main course never came. No excuse
Very friendly staff, beautiful atmosphere, outstanding food. Will return on my next trip.
We were there for our granddaughters birthday and pre-show dining. Everything was perfect!
We are pleased to dine at Brasserie 8 1/2 and to host friends from out of state and other countries.
They are always impressed with the food and ambiance. Will dine again when we return to NY
in the spring.
Run for one of the best brunch places in Manhattan. High quality food at a reasonable price 👍🏼
We had a wonderful anniversary meal at Brasserie 8 1/2. It went beyond our expectations! Delicious, great service, comfortable & quiet table. There was a large party near us and we were worried it would be too noisy, but our booth was isolated enough so we weren't really bothered. We can't wait to go back!
The crab cake was mist disappointing. Very salty enhanced with some unusual spices.
Brasserie 8 1/2 is one of the better bargains in midtown. The food is always good, plentiful and the venue is pretty. The service is always attentive. A true Gem.
we had a wonderful time at Brasserie 8 1/2 again this year. Also our thanks to our server Lauren, he has a very accommodating demeanor and excellent skills. Very friendly and helpful too.
The food as usual was excellent from being to end. We expect to return soon.
Happy Holidays to you staff.
The Food was hast overal nothing Special. The Taste was good but not worth the price. The atmosphare was rather cold than comfortable, big and less decoration. Ugly old fashion. Far to expensive the menu on thanksgiving. Service was ok.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Will definitely go again
We are from California and met our son and his family who live in New Hampshire for Thanksgiving at the midtown Hilton . Our home away Thanksgiving dinner one of the best ever with the delicious variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts we all enjoyed! Our two young granddaughters loved the dinner too!
Crab cake appetizer was good but crispy coating a bit salty for me. Filet Mignon and vegetables were good but was not hot. Service and ambiance very nice. I would go back
very nice place. needs an upgrade. food was good, service a little slow, when i said "upgrade"- mean the place looks like great place from the past. looks tired.
Great food, good service, lovely setting and quiet environment, all at a high ratio price/quality.
What else do you want?
Our Thanksgiving Lunch was great. Overall the combination of service and food made for a really enjoyable experience. The service was fast, we had everyone's attention, our water was always refilled at the perfect time, and the plates were cleared quickly. We didn't feel rushed which is great for Thanksgiving. I would come back again to celebrate here.
Thanksgiving prix fixe was great but chocolate pecan tart for desert wasn’t good. Everything else was delicious.
the kaboucha, arugula, pear salad is great! keepit on the menu, please. scallops were good, but could be cooked through.
From the imposing spiral staircase, the ample lounge area with authentic Matisse pen and ink drawings and marvelous Diego Giacometti coffee tables to the v ry page spacious and ample elbow- room seating at the tables and roomy banquet booths, this establishment is truly special. I especially like the Fernand Leger glass mural which is in front of a portion of the kitchen.
And, oh yes, Excellent cuisine and service!
Excellent French cuisine. Cordial, attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. Nice selection of wines by the bottle or glass.
Classic midtown restaurant with all of the quality you'd expect.
Just a wonderful department lunch. The server was professional and knowledgeable. The ambience was really easy going and French casual. The food. Perfect. Thank you!
Simply one of the best in the city. Beautiful..... great food and service......... I absolutely love it!
Brunch was great. Excellent selection, food was refilled quickly, and food was delicious.
Service was impeccable.
Bottomless mimosas were truly bottomless!
Very good for quiet conversation and privacy.
Atmosphere sophisticated and elegant.
Menu varied, food good, not fancy .
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, exemplary service and very fair prices for the quality.
Pre theater dining went smoothly. No trouble getting a reservation for 4 at 6:00. Located in the lower level of an office building, the room was a large & minimally decorated with what looked similar to mid century modern furniture.
Two courses were delivered with time to spare. Loved the variety of breads and rolls with fine butter. My lamb chops were done to perfection (medium rare). The steak frites was good with crisp French fries, a guilty pleasure. The wine list is well procured with reasonable pricing. We enjoyed a Chateauneuf de Pape.
I would return for dining here as the food & service are top notch.
Celebrating 25 years with Estée Lauder
Pleasant, very nice restaurant!
Good food, good service!
And quiet where one can talk!
A beautiful venue, delicious food and good service.
Wonderful selection of food...all delicious. The bottomless Mimosas are the best value. We try to come here when we're in the city.
