Excellent food - fair prices - quiet and excellent service
Spacious, quiet, good food but lunch service was remarkably inattentive.
Always reliably excellent with seasonal menu changes. Outstanding ambiance and decor. Excellent service. Fois Gras a favorite.
was ok. They wanted us to sit by the kitchen door.
This has been my best go-to for Sunday Brunch with guests. It never fails to please because it's a lovely space and the variety of foods offers something for everyone, so I don't have to worry about vegetarian, keto, or whatever. Once again, everyone was very pleased and complimentary about my choice.
Had the food been better, I'd give a better review. Had the duck which I ordered differently from that of my friend, but both dinners came the same way -- as she wanted. Had to send back to kitchen and then she waited for mine to arrive and hers was undoubtedly cold then. The leg portion of the duck was too salty. The dessert menu was wanting. The alcohol choices were/are excellent, and the wine choices adequate.
The best part was the room, the ambience, and the bartender, Pat. The room/food/wait staff does not meet the pricing.
We enjoyed a drink at one of their two lovely bars prior to dining. Had the scallops and crab cake entrees. Both were excellent but the scallops were a treat. We always enjoy dining here.
Previous dining, the food was much tastier and presented more attractively. We come with friends because we can hear each other talk. That remains good. My price fixed menu was a disappointment. The cauliflower soup was neither cauliflower nor mushroom favored as if the chef couldn’t decide which to emphasize. My duck breast was over cooked, full of fat and tough. The pear tart had more puff pastry than pear. My husband’s veal dish was tasteless and the noodles were cold. Wish the food had been better because we like everything else about the restaurant
A real class act. You can have a conversation easily, the food is delicious and reasonable, good service.
We had the pre fixe lunch menu plus dessert. Great presentation for all the courses. The food was delicious and service impeccable. Restaurant ambience and decor is tasteful.
Excellent food in a relaxed quite setting
A first visit prior to Carnegie Hall, just two blocks away. Active bar crowd heard throughout the seating area, so a table in the lower room was a good choice. Good wine list with many single glass and half bottle options. Little necks were a bit disappointing, but the fresh greens salad was enjoyable. Duck was done just right, and the sea scallops, not seasoned themselves, arrived with a tasty dressing and vegetable mix. Service was attentive and gave adequate time for a relaxed dinner without the need to rush out for the evening event.
The service was slower especially from dessert.
The first is quite good but the atmosphere is so glamorous that it is wonderful to be there.
If you want to be crowded shoulder-to-shoulder and shout to be heard by your companions, this is not the place for you. But, if you like quiet elegance, with extraordinary food and service, at a reasonable cost, then by all means come to Brasserie 8 1/2. It's our favorite place in Manhattan, if not the whole U.S.
We did the $39 two-course Paris bistro menu available Sunday and Monday evenings, with free BYO wine, so the value was absolutely outstanding. But in addition, the service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambience of this restaurant is always lovely.
A winner on all counts. Beautiful room, excellent service and very good food that although somewhat pricey is well worth it
My go to brunch spot! Took my dear friend to brunch to celebrate his victory over cancer! We specifically requested Stephen to be our server as he is the best!
Really nice brunch all you can eat. Endless mimosas for a small up charge. Really good value for NYC! Will go again and again!
First here 15 years ago; last here 10 years ago. Menu seems about the same, maybe a little less variety. Food very good for buffet style, but still buffet quality. Staff very polite and responsive to requests. Good value if you can eat a lot. Only surprise is that coffee is not included in a $36 per person brunch ($2 extra).
Good food and quiet pleasant ambience. Good value with a discount coupon.
This is truly one of the best NYC restaurants. Wonderful architecture, attentive service, new chef makes the food better than ever. Cauliflower soup last week was memorable!
Great service, special thanks to Nicole for her wonderful service.
I took my daughter to NYC and this was our “fancy” night out.
Hildy, Bev, Ariel, Rachael, Ajay, Annde, and I: Unfortunately it was crowded with a big 140 person party f Italians on a tour, and many other diners as well, so it was noisy. I had the country pate, which was very good, and the striped bass, which was not good at all—overcooked to dryness, and I asked for it undercooked. Anne had the duck salad and the branzino, which she liked.
Waited for an hour for our entrees. Which were not good. Manager was not going to offer us any I AM SORRY drinks until we asked him. NOT A GOOD SITUATION!
Never go back 150 tourists came in !
We just love dinning here!
Sara, our server is on point on how to be available without being intrusive with table conversation.
The ambience is very well appointed , the food is flavorful & plated well.
They have special offers of food from countries around the world and the lobster special was exceptional.
Always the most wonderful experience for a Sunday brunch. Amazing choice of food-and delicious! We love it here!
Beautiful place with excellent food and service. Hard to find perfect balance between food/service/ambiance.
Excellent service and value. The restaurant staff were attentive and helpful ensuring we understood what we were ordering. The wine options were well chosen and matched the menus well.
Hadn't been here in ages. Happy to report that the food is still very good and the atmosphere comfortable and serene. Wonderful selection of appetizers and the prix fixe is a wonderful deal if you are hungrier.
The prix fixed lunch was awful. The campagne pate was 2 slices of pink squares of rubber with marinated vegetables and 2 large triangles of burnt toast. The three sea scallops were the size of a quarter and laying in puréed turnips. This meal for $29 was poor and very disappointing.
Took 40 minutes to get appetizer (salad) even with almost empty room. Food grossly over-salted, even after asking them to 'go lightly'. Menu choices good, execution poor.
Great girls day out brunch. Nice food selection and they let us stay and chat even long after we were done eating. Cant wait to go back for our next gathering!
Excellent food ! Actually a restaurant where you can have
a conversation . Sarah , our server was very very good.
We all enjoyed our evening . Highly recommend !!
Beautiful restaurant to see. Very good food, waitstaff. Wine by the glass.
We ate here prior to going to the Opera. Wonderful evening .
WE CELEBRATED A COUSIN'S BIRTHDAY AT 8 1/2 AND HE WAS MORE THAN DELIGHTED WITH THE FOOD, THE AMBIANCE, THE SERVICE, AND THE WONDERFUL ARTWORK ON DISPLAY.
Excellent food and service at a rational price along with a beautiful, roomy setting. BYOB a big bonus.
HBD dinner - must rave about the service, shout out to our waitress Sarah and other people who had our table. She was super friendly, knew her menu and food. Our servers were attentive and kept our wine flowing, water glasses filled and delicious French breads for the table. 8 1/2 has BYOB two nights a week, one on Sunday when we were there - lucky for us, it’s rare for a NYC restaurant. Our party of 8 had the Prix Fix, all were happy with the taste and portion. Another choice was a 2 course lobster dinner, that was tempting but we opted for the one with dessert. We were surprised with a complimentary amuse Bouche - well seasoned lamb chop, it was yummy and bigger than a small bite. I had the grilled octopus to start, Branzino for my entree and finished with warm peach cobbler - enjoyed my choices. I had also tasted the Fig starter and Petit Mignon, also very good. The restaurant had nice decor, we were seated in an open area but felt private. I want to thank them for taking us an hour early and making my day special.
It was brunch with my niece and it was lovely.
