Fantastic dinner as always. Kellen was our waiter and is extremely good/ knowledgeable of menu. We visit often and look forward to our next visit.
Service was extremely slow. The waitress offered bread but it never appeared. She took our entree orders, then came back fifteen minutes later to ask us our orders again... when we said we’d ordered already she asked to be reminded of what we selected, so I’m assuming she forgot to put our food order into the kitchen. The “chips” that came with our shrimp cocktail appetizer were so hard and chewy at the same time they were pretty much inedible. The ribeye was lacking flavor despite being covered in some kind of oil and Dijon mixture. Our bottle of wine, appetizer and two entrees put us at around $130 +tip for a meal neither of us finished because it was honestly borderline bad. We love eating and aren’t afraid to drop a good dollar on dining... so long as the food and service is worth it.
Creative and sophisticated flavor combinations and textures with appealing presentation. Would expect more traditional bread for a French-inspired brasserie (eg, crusty baguette- the table bread served was subpar). Loved the interior decorating, desserts, and friendly service.
As always, Brasserie 1895 was a special place for a special day with my Mom. We all loved the food and each dish was unique and perfectly prepared.
The food and their service was incredible! The chicken fried steak and the table side filet are both must try dishes!
One of the top restaurants in Houston area. Truly great wine list. Food is tasty - among best French food in the area. It’s always a treat.
Food was good, but not quite the exceptional quality I expected for the price. No complaints, just too expensive for the quality of the food.
My family and friends are huge fans of Brasserie! I’ve never had a bad experience here. Excellent service, unique and amazing cocktails, delicious food! 10/10 recommend!
Simply a superb restaurant, consistantly outstanding. Chef Kris' steak tartare is one of my favorite foods of all time. The staff is wonderful. I will always dine here whenever I'm in Houston.
The service were received was just OK. Granted, the restaurant was busy (they hosted a Kentucky Derby event that afternoon, and lots of people were still there). We had ordered an entree to be split between two people, and they simply brought the entree to the table with a spare plate (instead of splitting the entree in the kitchen); don't know if the kitchen was just to lazy to split the order, or if the waiter didn't think it was necessary to have the kitchen split the order. Either way, we were less than impressed. Took forever to get our plates cleared, be offered dessert, and to get the check. Thankfully, the quality of the food was outstanding, which almost makes up for the service issues. Perhaps our next visit will be on a slower night that the staff can handle better.
Tonight was not our best experience. We have been many times. Menu was lacking and predictable. Highly disappointed in Brasserie tonight.
Always a great time here and the food is consistently excellent.
I would travel to Texas just to eat there again. There are only a few restaurants I have been to where I think to myself, “next time I come back here for work, I will go back here.” This place makes me want to come back for work just so I could eat there again.
We found the food mediocre and not as fresh as we had heard or were promised in the advertising. My special seemed to have been prepared ahead and then microwaved prior to serving. The mussels served with my meal were rubbery and not fresh at all. My husband's veal was grainy and seemed to have had the same mircrowave issue. The entrees seemed way overpriced for the area and what we got. Fifty dollars for a filet that was underdone, and had green beans sprinkled around it. We had heard that the menu was farm to table but we did not see any evidence of that type of freshness in the food we were served. I had some type of cake for dessert that was stale, the best part about it was the gingersnap on the side. Our tab, because we had six in our party, was arbitrarily charged 18% gratuity and this is a practice that I can't stand because I think that I should decide the gratuity not the establishment and generally I tip more than the "established" rate charged. We will not be back.
My wife and I split the off-menu cod. It was kind of dry. It just reinforces my inclinations to not order off-menu items or specials. I will stick with the menu next time.
Quickly seated at our reservation time. Waitress forgot to bring us items and was not very good about refills on drinks. Even worse was the fact she spent a good portion of her time complaining at the table next to us about how mistreated she was by the chef. It is inappropriate to bash your employer to customers, if you are that unhappy then quit. The table side pasta carbonara was not table side and the pasta was undercooked with runny sauce that did not stick to the noodles at all. If not for a great experience at this restaurant previously we would not eat here again.
Amazing food. Eclectic atmosphere. I wouldn’t recommend taking kids here, but perfect for date night. Meals are in the $25-30 price range, but the food is top notch and worth the price.
Looking for something new and this was a nice experience. The staff was excellent, service was prompt, and the food was good... could have been a little more flavorful but it was still good!
This was our 2nd visit within the past year. Both times the food and service were outstanding. In my opinion it's best restaurant in the area.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and they food was absolutely delicious. Our service was outstanding. We made a commitment to dine at Brasserie 1895 once a month. My favorite was the lamb lollipops, they melted in my mouth.
The food and service was excellent. Perfect place for a special occasion. Has a nice casual ambiance. Will definitely be back.
Wonderful experience as always. Even accommodated a special vegan request.
Saw this place on Texas Bucket List and it was as good as on the show. Everything we had was delicious.
The food and ambiance was great. The service however was pretty bad. Took over 30 minutes from being seated to getting a drink and still had not heard about the specials or even given the opportunity to order an appetizer. We have been there several times and this level of service has been consistent across each occasion. Will have to think long and hard about whether to go back knowing we might have to eat before we go since it will be so long before we can get our food due to the slow service!
Brasserie 1895 is a great restaurant-it is my husband and I's go to date night spot!
Our dinner started out with a special touch of comp champagne and a nice attentive waiter, David. However my overall impression went from good to bad to better as the long wait for dinner progressed. The “belgian” fries at $8 are merely inexpensive French fries served with 3 typical dipping sauces. With perhaps a small investment better fries could be offered to make them more typical. The menu is limited and not as full as what shown on Open Table. The prix fixe menu for $50 only available as shown and no flexibility to have the main course as an entree only. The tableside prepared pasta which was very popular is served with no protein options and at $24 seems also overpriced. Both the rabbit and cod dinners were well prepared & decently priced.
With a little more customer centric focus I believe the chef/owners could score a hit with this place, not sure how long they’ll survive with their lack of flexibility and some inexpensive food offerings being overpriced.
I loved the fact that the menu is small but covers all foods groups. Every dish I have had there was prepared properly and full of flavors and served at the right temperature. We have had dinner all over Houston in the last 30 years and I would rate Brasserie 1875 as one of the best restaurants that has provided a great meal on a consistent basis.
Best fine cuisine in Houston area!! #texasbucketlistrestaurants
Fantastic service and incredibly well made and presented food.
Our server, Jessica, is the best! She deserves 5+ stars. Food = excellent.
Good bar. Abbreviated menu. Food was good and service was great. Wine list is good and reasonable. This is a nice place.
Kellen was awesome. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and what goes into a dish which I could appreciate. The food was amazing I had the rack of lamb and it melted in my mouth it was cooked perfectly.
An upscale restaurant where the food was delicious with a wonderful atmosphere. A great place to spend with your significant other or friends.
If you enjoy opulence then this is the place to be. This restaurant would fit on well in the Montrose area.
Always a great meal. On the pricier side, but often best dishes on south side of town. Always a treat when we decide we’re going.
Excellent table side service. Food and drinks are both excellent. High end food, reasonable prices. Hip crowd. Cool chefs and bar staff.
Slower food delivery time is alarming due to reduced menu options.
A last minute reservation turned into one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! Everything surprised me from the Lobster Bisque, to the Chicken Fried Steak.
No question! loved the atmosphere as well as the size of the place. Our waitress was fantastic!! Limited menu was a little scary however; too many choices aren't good either and with the limited menu, I think the chef can focus on each and every meal. We'll definitely be back!
Let me start by saying our service problem was with the front of the house. The servers did a fantastic job. The smoked brisket & shitake starter was very good and smokey. Our group had the Elk Loin, the ossobucco and the Carbonara tableside. All three shined. We love how Brasserie 1895 keeps updating the menu, making a new adventure each time we come here.
