Brannan's Grill Ratings and Reviews
We were very surprised and disappointed to find out that the menu had changed. The food was of course great as always, but Brennan's has always been our go-to sit down restaurant for special occasions. Now they serve their food as if it's a tapas place, only the servings aren't really big enough to share properly. Each serving was much smaller than the standard serving size, but they didn't change the price much (if at all) and they kind of forced us to share... they bring the food out as it's made and will not accept a request to have it all brought out at once.
While I like the idea (because I have tapas with my friends all the time) it is far more expensive than your usual tapas place, and the ambiance of the restaurant does not fit with the new tapas style mwnu. Unfortunately I don't believe we will go there again because my party was extremely disappointed and only went there for the fact that it was a sit down dress up style dinner.
Started off great, but after getting our drinks and appetizer our server never came back to us. He passed up at least 6 times to ask the other 3 couples around us if they needed something. Food is good, but service is sub par and not worth the price you pay for a good dinner.
My husband and I visited Brannan's after a day of tours and tastings in the Napa Valley. We were immediately welcomed by the friendly hostess and seated right away since we had reservations. We loved the layout of the restaurant and felt it was clean and inviting. Since we'd been wine-tasting all day, we decided to stick to nonalcoholic drinks. Our waiter was quite obviously not thrilled about this, which was a bit off-putting and uncomfortable. He seemed even less thrilled when we told him we'd be passing on appetizers. We both ordered filet mignon, which was one of the priciest entrees on the menu, and yet we continued to feel that the fact that we passed on wine and appetizers displeased him. Regardless of our discomfort with our waiter, we enjoyed our entrees and thought the steaks were flavored well and cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the creme brulee dessert. The food and atmosphere were great, but the waiter's attitude definitely had a negative effect on our experience and our willingness to return in the future.
Brannan's has been our go-to spot for at least one dinner anytime we come to Calistoga. As always, their local wine list is amazing. They recently hired a new chef and the new dishes are amazing. We split three appetizers: shrimp cocktail, grilled asparagus, and heirloom tomato salad. Yummy! My pork chop was tender and the pickled cabbage it was paired with was fantastic. My husband had the most tender fillet with a red wine reduction sauce. Amazing. We will be back.
Have been here several times . The service was good the ambience was good pretty pricey for lunch . We found one thing kind of strange we ordered the cornbread in the skillet soon there after the waitress came back and said something about it being burnt so we thought OK do you have more than one ?? We just ended up ordering the wings which were OK The drinks were good the food was good too.
Went here from the small list of quality fine dining venues in Calistoga, as I was there to enjoy the hot springs. Service was attentive, and our seating was right before the wide, open windows, where the breeze came in and kept us cool as we enjoyed our meal.
The food itself was above average, executed well, but none of it was above and beyond the traditional fare you might find in this price range. The chef appears to keep things simple -- the chicken was accompanied by a side of routine mashed potatoes and unadorned broccoli, the chicken itself in a fairly typical gravy. It was all enjoyable, but none of it stood out.
The halibut was cooked perfectly, and I would even say the crab balls were creative, and very, very tasty. Yet the greens were overly seasoned beneath the fish, and became soggy in the juices of the meal.
I did enjoy the drinks immensely. My ginger beer concoction was very refreshing, as well as the mocktail my dining partner ordered.
We finished with the cheesecake, which was equally on point alongside the dinner, but once again a simple dish that might be obtained at any other restaurant of this value.
All in all, this was a safe, enjoyable dining experience. In no way was it inspired, but in keeping in line with what people expect, and nailing those requirements, it certainly deserves a modicum of praise, and no negativity. I would dine here again, but not before trying some other restaurants in the area.
We were staying nearby and chose this because it was close. The food was excellent, but the wine was disappointing (of all places!). The list is very short, and not well curated. There were no passable $100 bottles of wine. They had $200 and $300 bottles, but these were mediocre (and mispriced ). I would recommend bringing your own and pay a corkage fee.
This the second time my friends and I have had a bad experience at Brannan's. We gave them a second chance and it was bad. The service was very slow and the waiter was a little rude. One person in our group got very sick, don't order the duck.
All places in Calistoga claimed they were all sold out for Mothers Day. We had brunch the day before. Our Eggs Benedict were cooked tough and spinach layer it sat on was bitter. Our biggest disappointment was limit of three oysters on shelf that in total added up to one oyster, way to small actually tiny! Limit of three per person...really!
We had an excellent dinner. It was our anniversary which I noted when we made the reservations and they had a glass of champagne waiting for us which I thought was a very nice gesture. Food was excellent. We had a nice booth and the service was excellent. Wood recommend to friends.
Owner nice to us when we were just looking. Ignored us after we were seated. Waiter gave good service but nothing beyond the call of duty. Water never refilled. Did not ask if special occasion. Did not say come again. Just did his duty and nothing more. Another table was constantly attended to . Must be big wigs or known about town. Nice to have people be pleasurable and not just do their duty.
We have dinned at Brennan's Grill many times during our annual visit to Napa Valley. This was not a very good experience. Our order of flat-iron was not correctly cooked. We asked for medium-rare and got medium. The manager came over a blamed the waiter for getting someone else order. Also the waiter check out the meat at our table. Like we were wrong! They did not take my order and let us eat together. We also had a free corkage coupon which the waiter complained about since he comp the flat-iron. We are still waiting for our credit since the waiter had to run the bill twice. NOT a good experience.
We have eaten here many times and have always been happy with our meal and service. Tonight however everything was off. We ordered soup and and a salad which did not come before our entree. Entrees came and we asked where was our salad and soup. They brought everything at once. Not a good thing. We ordered prime rib asked for it to be medium with pink showing. Instead we got a pan fried slice with quite a lot of salt on it. It was only slightly pink inside but was salty. Hostess did offer a free dessert. Waitress did not charge the salad. Restaurant did the right thing. However this was a birthday celebration with a disappointing meal.
My husband and I are visiting Napa on vacation from NY - on the outside Brannan's is very attractive with big open-air windows, so we stopped in for lunch . But the service was slow - we got there at 1:30pm, and didn't even get my husband's soup until after 2pm - the rest of the food about 2:15pm (forgivable if a very busy time, but there were only a few other people there). They also got my order wrong - I got French fries instead of a salad, but didn't want to waste more time sending it back. My husband's corned beef was very fatty. A very nice setting, but not a great experience for the money.
Average food by Bay Area standards. Beet salad quite decent. Poke was palatable but the person who took our order and the person who delivered the food disagreed on what fish it was! The lamb duo was appropriately cooked but the meat was full of sinews - perhaps it was a more senior lamb. Not on our return list
