Was surprised about the new "tapas"style menu. It was not what we were looking for when we booked the reservation.
Picked this spot on a birthday trip to the wine country.
The food was not good, frozen and no flavor, menu disappointing. Will not go back
The menu is designed for sharing small plates. The dishes were tasty but some were not presented in a way that made them easy to share.
We were very surprised and disappointed to find out that the menu had changed. The food was of course great as always, but Brennan's has always been our go-to sit down restaurant for special occasions. Now they serve their food as if it's a tapas place, only the servings aren't really big enough to share properly. Each serving was much smaller than the standard serving size, but they didn't change the price much (if at all) and they kind of forced us to share... they bring the food out as it's made and will not accept a request to have it all brought out at once.
While I like the idea (because I have tapas with my friends all the time) it is far more expensive than your usual tapas place, and the ambiance of the restaurant does not fit with the new tapas style mwnu. Unfortunately I don't believe we will go there again because my party was extremely disappointed and only went there for the fact that it was a sit down dress up style dinner.
Started off great, but after getting our drinks and appetizer our server never came back to us. He passed up at least 6 times to ask the other 3 couples around us if they needed something. Food is good, but service is sub par and not worth the price you pay for a good dinner.
The service was excellent as usual. The food I ordered was halibut and it was overcooked and dry. The string beans and baby carrots were overcooked. Not a very substantial meal.
Had the Prime Rib and it was excellent. Asparagus was the side and it was way over cooked
Waiter was snobby made you feel unwelcome forgot drink no apologies. Mashed potatoes from a box rest of old food was OK but server attitude ruined everything
My husband and I visited Brannan's after a day of tours and tastings in the Napa Valley. We were immediately welcomed by the friendly hostess and seated right away since we had reservations. We loved the layout of the restaurant and felt it was clean and inviting. Since we'd been wine-tasting all day, we decided to stick to nonalcoholic drinks. Our waiter was quite obviously not thrilled about this, which was a bit off-putting and uncomfortable. He seemed even less thrilled when we told him we'd be passing on appetizers. We both ordered filet mignon, which was one of the priciest entrees on the menu, and yet we continued to feel that the fact that we passed on wine and appetizers displeased him. Regardless of our discomfort with our waiter, we enjoyed our entrees and thought the steaks were flavored well and cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the creme brulee dessert. The food and atmosphere were great, but the waiter's attitude definitely had a negative effect on our experience and our willingness to return in the future.
