Superb experience. One of us did the pric fixe dinner with the wine pairing. It was amazingly well done. Jose picked terrific wines. He explained the wine and the reason for pairing with that particular course. One of the best meals we have ever had. Sorry we didn’t know about it the night before as we would have eaten there both nights.
Best salmon I ever had in my life- not exaggerating. This place has the type of food you see on tv that puts people in a daze! Life changing!
Enjoyable Mother's Day brunch. There weren't a lot of choices, but they were all good and everyone was pleased with their meal. I didn't get it, but the vegetarian option sounded delicious (risotto primavera).
I felt the value was on par with the price, which I've not found as much as I'd like recently (and as much as I think I should) with fixed price menus.
Most importantly, Mom was happy!
Lame selection and overpriced
We attended Brado restaurant for Mother’s Day brunch (3 of us). The service was odd, there seemed to be lots of people around; but, we had to ask for everything by getting someone’s attention. For example, everyone around us got bread at table , we had to ask. The food itself wasn’t very good for the cost and limited menu. First time there, probably not going back.
Went for Mother's Day, left very disappointed, felt like I had been robbed. Overpriced, NY strip that my wife ordered was super tough, chewy and filled with fat and sinews. The waiter didn't offer us bread or give us bread even though all the tables around us were offered and given bread. Paid over $200 for the meal and left hungry.
At the moment this is the best restaurant in Alexandria. We had the mussels, the classic preparation, as our appetizer; we have never had plumper, more succulent mussels ever. The rest of the meal was equally as good, perfectly prepared rockfish with extraordinary fiddle heads, and an excellent escargot dish. A great meal!
Service outweighed the food — which was very good. Personable and attentive wait staff. The valet parking (free) is a huge benefit.
Will return many times.
Corn-beef hash was a big disappointment -- chunks of fatty meat and overcooked eggs. Steak & eggs and the French toast were excellent. Service was good although the kitchen was slow. Because we have been often and always had an excellent experience, we would return but this meal was a major strike against them.
Used to go to Brabo often five years ago when we lived in DC. It’s changed a lot and not for the better. Menu very limited, appetizer selection small, and overall not as good as its sister restaurants Brasserie Beck and Marcel’s.
We hadn't been to the restaurant in more than a year and was disappointed in the change of decor. It used to be prettier.
The food was fine but not exceptional. Service was attentive.
The food, cocktails, and wine were really excellent (although the amount of aioli on Le Grand Aioli was sort of skimpy). Service was attentive and mostly on point, although every once in a while a little slow. The only negative in our meal was the noise level - we were seated in the Brasserie section which was really loud, even when the room wasn't full. All said, we'd happily go back for the food and the cocktails... maybe we'll try the dining room for a quieter experience.
Amazing cocktails and service. The blistered pepper starter was incredible as was the open ravioli. Fantastic wine list. Treated us like VIP!!! Can't wait to go back.
One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Hassan is attentive and knowledgeable. We mostly go there because of him! But the food is also consistently excellent, creative and fresh.
We love all of the Robert Widemaier restaurants. Always interesting food and out of the norm. Staff were wonderful and very helpful in explaining the menu. The "open ravioli" was an interesting dish.
First, the things that were positive. The food ranged from the good--the appetizers and dessert--to the excellent--the main course (monkfish in our case). The sommelier was friendly and helpful and the guy that filled the water not only was there regularly but remembered who was still and who sparkled. The overall service including the waiter, however, was atrocious. There is no other way to put it. It took between 30-45 minutes and repeated asking just to get bread. Over 15 minutes to get a (non-water) drink. Extended lags between courses. The couple next to us, who had been there for some time, even passed us our wine (which was on ice next to them), commenting that the service alternated between quick and long, slow periods. Our waiter, who was abducted by aliens apparently, seemed at one point to recognize the issue and provided us an additional, comped appetizer--nice touch. He then was abducted again. I'm not talking about wanting a hovering waiter, just one that comes around more than every 15-30 minutes. And, while it was a weekend night and busy, the service didn't improve when the dining room was down to our table plus 2 others, so nearly empty. I know this is a popular place and, as I mentioned up front the food really was good, but I'm not going to drop the kind of cash I did for this kind of service again.
Superb service. Food was excellent. Wine list intriguing in an excellent way. Would have liked a bir more variety on the menu. Bit noisy until crowds thinned at 930.
Excellent all around. Service and food was so amazing!
Great low key brunch spot.
My main course, vegetarian ravioli, was quite good, but my appetizet was good but not that interesting. My guest's salad had to be returned because it was too salty. Disappointing because this has consistently been a quite good dining experience.
Easter prix fix
First table was in brasserie and was rather cold with Cheerios all over the floor :-(
I asked to be moved to another table in a warmer location void of Cheerios. We were happily moved to another table.
Things were looking up.
But.... had to ask for water twice;
Salmon encroute was served on a very hot plate and the salmon was very dry and under seasoned. I asked for some lemon, but my dish was taken away and a new dish was set down. This time the salmon was cold, which would have been great if this was to be a cold salad - still needed an acid. And the bottom of the dish was covered in some sort of red sauce which stained the white table linens. By this time was ready to just call it quits, and mentioned this to another waiter (host/hostess was no where to be found) but instead, a third salmon dish was sent out. Now this should have been the first dish I received well seasoned, not dry, and hot (steaming hot though). I took a few bites of this but waiter then came by and took away my dish. Aaaarg!! Eh I was “full” anyway. Sigh.
Bright side was we were told we did not have to pay food bill. Which was nice, but could have been avoided if dishes were correct in the first place.
Do like Brabo and will go back, but there needs to be some attention to service.
A party of two. Seated at a table for 4 in the middle of a very noisy room. Was hard to hear not facing each other. Easter Brunch.
Traveled to Old Town and D.C. for our anniversary and we had brunch at Brabo. Since it was Easter Sunday the menu was Prix Fixe and fabulous! Our server was Cosmo and he was great - attentive but not hovering, informative/knowledgeable but not overtly. They were very busy but all of the staff seemed to function with ease as if they were managing a small crowd instead of the never ending patrons that were flowing in. We really enjoyed Cosmo’s presence and definitely the atmosphere. Had a really nice brunch date and we look forward to visiting again.
We love coming here and it’s often the choice for celebration meals. Our last visit was a group that included a vegan, a gluten-free eater, and a few true foodies. Everyone left happy! The service is always terrific and they really made our birthday girl feel special.
My family ate at Brabo during our long weekend trip in Alexandria. When we arrived, the service was very slow, as in 30 minutes to get drinks and 45 minutes to get bread kind of slow. It was very frustrating. It was a challenge to get someone's attention. However once we did, the staff was very nice. I was under the impression that they were understaffed. As the meal went on, the service picked up. The food was pretty good and the menu was creative.
Amazing service. Spectacular wine selection. The bison tartare was out of this world and the seafood was cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back next time I’m in the area.
Loved this restaurant! Very nice place for my birthday. Food was fabulous.
Sunday night. Slow, we get it. Our server was condescending and indifferent. He clearly did not want to be there and he made it apparent from the start.
Appetizers of octopus, shishito peppers and charcuterie were excellent, notwithstanding our server. All four entree’s were mediocre and overpriced. The “grilled” lobster thermordore was clearly not grilled and was a lazy, sloppy, overpowering undercooked waste of $35. Scallops were acceptable but overpriced. Salmon was clearly farm raised not wild and smothered in sauce to mask that. “Special” of night, Beef Bourguignon was obviously leftover last nights short ribs.
Need I be any more specific? Don’t waste your time or money here, especially given that there are literally dozens of fine options within just a few blocks on King Street.
Our meal was very disappointing. We have dined here since the hotel opened. We have enjoyed many wonderful meals in the past.
There has been a change in chef's in the past year or so. Food now is lackluster at best. Fancy descriptions with poor execution. It did not help that they were holding two large groups at the same time.
When reserving check to see how busy they will be with outside groups.
Service (or the kitchen) was slower than previous visits -- too much lag time between courses. The tomato soup was excellent and the lobster thermidor very good but not exceptional. Dessert was disappointing. Not our best experience but we would return.
No. I will not use open table if I have to write a review before
Making a new reservation
Cosmo is the best waiter! He consistently deliver great service and a winning attitude despite it being a busy brunch crowd. As usual the menu specials did not disappoint. The Korean chicken and waffles was a departure from the normal Belgian flare, but was delicious and inspired! Kudos to the chef for taking chances and delivering a great meal.
Service was terrible. Forgot our order and server was not knowledgeable of the menu at all. Food quality and presentation is not what I remember it to be either.
Delicious brunch in Old Town! Coffee was very good, as were both entrees. The french toast was a significant portion and very rich; we're glad we split the french toast and the Brabo benedict. Would definitely go back for a nice brunch!
We will never return. I had requested a quiet table but was placed in the middle of the traffic pattern. We had to shout over the noise. Food was mediocre. Overall dreadful experience.
The service was very slow, although the servers were as pleasant as could be. There were four of us and the dinner began at 6:15 and ended about 9:30, we each had just two courses.
I ordered lobster thermador, what came was a very small lobster tail broiled and covered in an a pinkish orangish sauce of unknown origin. For all I could say, it might have been an inferior bottled salad dressing. The dish included what appeared to be sections of small potatoes but they were cooked hard and tasteless, so I couldn't really say they were potatoes with any confience. There were some other particles on the plate but I had no idea what they might have been.. My partner had salmon, which is one of her favorites, but she said it was tasteless and overcooked.
I had been to Brabo twice before, and had not planned to return, but did return to join two friends, but will not return again.
I might also add that I am not a particularly demandng or critical person. i tend to be very sparing of restaurants because I'm aware of the difficulty and the challenges they face, but this was a bit over the top and I can't resist the opportunity to voice my disappointment.
Excellent, flexible service. Appetizers excellent. Main courses, including specials of the day only acceptable.
Everything was good, but not as good as expected. We have had better meals in the past at Brabo. Service was friendly, but not as attentive as you would expect at a restaurant in this price point. As one guest said...I wanted to be wow'ed, but was not.
My girlfriends and I had a great time at Brabo the other night. The food was delicious and service was superb. Thank you for being exceptional.
