Brabo - Lorien Hotel & Spa Ratings and Reviews
It was date night for my wife and I. We turned to a local favorite Brabo's Restaurant. We are regulars at Brabo's Tasting Room but when we want to take it up a few notches we go to the Restaurant for the complete dining experience. From the hostess to the waiter to the sommelier, the staff was exceptional. Everything we asked for was effortlessly and professionally provided. They split the Foie Gras for us...it was delightful. We had the Lamb from the tasting menu and the Venison. Both were prepared and presented flawlessly. We could not decide which was better. For dessert it was the Key Lime Delice with Tea. A perfect finish to the evening. We always go back and made reservations for Brabo's on Thanksgiving Day a month ago. The food and service is better than the price...a local gem.
Very smooth evening. Dining room is comfortable with good lighting. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Food was delicious. The restaurant has a nice open bar, a rustic brasserie room and an elegant dining room with enclosed Chef table. The adjacent tasting room was lively. Easy walk from King St. Metro. Best surprise, a glass of Champagne for the birthday girl ! Perfect with the dessert. Bravo.
Came here to celebrate a birthday on a Monday night at 8pm. Our server, Cosmo, was very helpful and friendly - I highly recommend him to any other patron! We opted for the tasting menu and a few a la carte items (bison tartar, black truffle brie, hangar steak and venison). Everything was prepared very well and I would definitely order the bison tartar, Brie (amazing flavor), lamb and venison. These dishes are certainly worth their value. On top of that, although it was not at all busy that night, the servers were very attentive and made the wait between dishes bearable.
This was a perfect after-theater/romantic birthday dinner with my husband. We tried the chef's tasting menu of 5 items and opted out of the wine pairing, in lieu of the amazing cocktails. I was pretty blown away by the menu and how harmonious the flavors were. It was an extremely well-balanced menu that was complimented with excellent service. This is definitely a place to always have bookmarked if you're looking for a gold star dining experience in Northern Virginia.
Lovely setting, excellent food and professional service! We made a reservation in the formal dining room, but the Brassiere looked so nice we can’t wait to go back and try that for a more casual - but classy Friday evening. BTW, the Brassiere menu is available in the dining room if you like that menu more. Our waiter Hassan was fantastic but everyone we encountered was friendly, courteous and professional .
Two couples dined at Brabo for dinner on a busy Friday the mussel starter was well enjoyed. As was the foie gras. The mains were poached halibut (a bit bland), venison medallions (quite good) and a clasic hanger steak frites. Excellent specialty cocktails but none of us had desert. We will definitely do Brabo again.
My wife and I went to Brabo for our wedding anniversary, which the restaurant kindly marked with complementary glasses of fine sparkling wine. The five-course tasting menu proved quite satisfying, with delicious lamb chops the stand out dish. The wine pairings worked well, and the five pours were generous. A quite tasty evening.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Brabo this weekend. We had impeccable service from the moment we entered the restaurant. The reviews and presentation online make it look a bit nicer than it was, and I was surprised to enter wearing a suit and find strollers with noisy children and parents in shorts. But-- know I know. Nearly every person we interacted with wished us a happy anniversary, and we had nothing but kind service. We were met with glasses of champagne, and dessert for our celebration. Above and beyond expectation.Thank you for a memorable experience and we'll look forward to seeing you again!
What a lovely experience! For our anniversary dinner we visited Brabo. After reviewing the menus, we indicated a preference for the Brasserie on our Open Table reservation. The hostess called to confirm our desired seating and that it was an anniversary dinner. The food was excellent - fluke carpaccio, brisket crostini, mussels, and grilled octopus on chickpea purée. Plus some gracious extras as anniversary "gifts" from the restaurant. There are more traditional choices on the menu, but we like interesting food, and the chef did not disappoint. Our server and the other staff we encountered were all personable and professional. There is nothing we would change about the experience. Wonderful!
I have visited Brabo a few times prior to their remodel, and was always impressed with both service and the quality of the food. Unfortunately, the experience today was nothing like the previous quality. Sunday brunch at 11:15 with only 4 other tables. A 45min wait for waffles and corned beef has. Eggs very over cooked, has was simple and uninteresting. The smoked salmon waffles were the only decent dish. The saving grace was the bartenders Pimm's Cup.
My suggestion is to pass and wait for the restaurant to work out the issues.
This was our first time in Brabo since the change in chef (and menu) and we really enjoyed it. We had the Chef's Tasting Menu with accompanying wine pairings. My only reservation is that the pricing seems very much on the high end, although the food was certainly top notch. Overall, though, Brabo still seems like an outstanding restaurant. They offer two seating options — we chose the more formal dining area in the back, which is quieter, but the Brasserie up front was quite noisy (and the noise spilled over into our area). Not a deal-breaker, but if you have a choice and want a quieter night out, you should make a special request to be seated farther in.
We were in Alexandria with friends for one night and agreed to eat in this restaurant, which is in the hotel where we stayed. Usually we don't expect a lot from hotel-located restaurants, but Brabo was an outstanding exception. The menu was inventive, the preparation flawless, the service knowledgeable and the staff warm and friendly. We would definitely be regulars if we lived in the area.
We had our Anniversary Dinner on a Monday night so the place was relatively quiet. The service timing was just ok. We did however have a lot of questions and the server was knowledgeable about each dish being offered. My main issue was the price vs value. The 8oz tenderloin was NOT 8 oz, maybe 6 . The presentation and cooking was just ok .
Spent over $250.00 and walk out thinking , yea no wow factor for that cost. Disappointing.
Consistently an excellent choice in fine dining, where you can actually have a conversation at a normal speech range. This is my favorite place to share with family and special friends. They have a great wine selection and can pair for you. Tasting Room is fun for lunch.
This was a very pleasant culinary experience. We opted for the five course tasting menu with wine pairing and truly loved most of it, especially the first four courses. It is notable that the chef was able to accommodate dietary restrictions without compromising quality and "ideas." The wine pairing was not trivial and interesting. The only "faux pas" was the dessert: The proposed key lime pie was nothing worth remembering, and actually quite bland. Overall, however, a pleasant find.
I dine out a lot. I don't mind spending $600+ for dinner for four. This restaurant is VERY expensive for what you get. The food is average. The service is SLOW. We waited 45 minutes for our main entree. Sad because we live in Old Town and would like to enjoy this restaurant more. Unfortunately, this is not my first experience with this restaurant. I think Brabo Tasting Room is far better than the main dining room.
