Bravo for Brabo! My husband thinks the food at Brabo is the best he has ever had and this is a big deal because he is a very picky eater in which good compliments are far and few. I think the food is very delicious but the one thing I would change is for the Chef to use less sodium. Other than that, you really cannot go wrong. Try the Belgian Frites as they are incredible!
Our experience was wonderful from start to finish. The food was fresh, the service was helpful and timely, and the crowd seemed friendly.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary, and what a treat it was!
Having dined here many times with a group on business, I can say that it's a great place for dependably good food and service. Specials are usually the way to go, but I love having just the mussels and Belgian frites, always done the right way, as my entire meal. Simple food but consistently good and a cozy spot for groups or small tables. The back area is much quieter than the front near the bar.
Amazing food, wonderful service, the sommelier was particularly helpful. My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner and had a wonderful time. My only issue with the place is a mild one, it's very dark in there. While it did make for a romantic dinner atmosphere, it's almost too dark. However, the food shines extremely brightly no matter the lumen level. A wonderful place and I'll be back soon.
Robert Wiedmaier has done it again. We have been to all three area restaurants and love them all. Each has it's own feel and menu, and BRABO was no different. Great fillet, great mussels, great waffle for dessert.
The food, service, everything, is beautifully presented and exquisite. We will definitely be eating there more.
Overpriced for the quality of food served. Limited menu selection.
The restaurant was nice but for those who live in old town there are other choices for the cost that are better. It is a hotel after all, and the prices reflect that. I much prefer the tasting room next door.
The menu changes regularly enough to keep you coming back and the presentation and taste of the dishes is always top notch. Service is still hot and cold. It feels like management is trying to get the servers on track but, if you are paying $400 for 3 for dinner you would think someone would use a crumb scraper on the table cloth between courses and that you would not have to repeatedly ask for more water. Even with these missteps I would recommend the location as one where people still go to dine and dress for the occasion.
The noise can be loud in the dining room so we were very pleased that they allowed us to dine on their patio even thou they had not planned on having the patio open that evening.
food was wonderful, as was the service
Looking for a classy, romantic place for upscale dining? This is the place. The service is some of the best in Alexandria. The General Manager came to our table and, with his genteel French accent, asked how our dinners were. We felt very welcome. The one thing they can improve is the preparation of the lobster ravioli. The outside pasta was undercooked and we could barely taste any lobster. Not worth the $12 appetizer fee for 3 tiny ravioli, which were the size of my thumbnail.
I also emailed them in advance about our anniversary dinner. I hoped that we would receive a special drink or dessert for that, but I had to remind them again.
Overall, a fine dining experience!
If you have some time to have a nice, leisurely dinner, Brabo is the place to go. Great food, great staff - dinner can get pricey but it is definitely worth it, especially for a special occasion. We have only be there 3 or 4 times but they remember us and always are very accomodating. They are attentive but make sure you have time to spend there as dinner can easily take 2 hours. Enjoy!
I hosted a party of four for a special occasion. We ordered a range of entrees, appetizers, and desserts. All were well prepared and well presented. The service was efficient, friendly and unobtrusive. The sommelier provided excellent advice on a good, mid-price wine to complement our range of entrees. Our table was positioned toward the rear of the dining area and afforded both a good view of the restaurant and relative quiet to carry on a good conversation. In sum, we had a wonderful evening and will be returning soon.
Our dinner at BRABO was one of our best dinners yet. We consider ourselves "Foodies"-we are great chefs in our our right. Each course we chose was interesing in flavor and the way it was plated. Everytime we dine at BRABO we love how fresh each bite is. The flavor of the ingredients come through instead of being over spiced or over salted!!! As always the service was spectacular. Thank you for another delicious evening.
Phenomenal food! Free valet parking makes it easier to get there.
We went to Brabo to celebrate my husband's birthday, and were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and the food was excellent. However, for our table of six, our waiter forgot about us several times, making us flag him down for drink orders, to ask where our appetizers were, to ask where our additional bottle of wine was, and to order dessert. The 20% gratuity was not marked on the website or menus which would not have been a problem except for the sub-par service.
Recommendation comes with a caveat: everything is delicious, but overpriced.
Appetizers were overpriced and definitely not worth it. The lobster ravioli were very hard around the edges and not what I would expect from this quality of restaurant. The main courses, on the other hand were excellent and well worth the price.
We visited BRABO for breakfast and it's obvious that this isn't really their thing. They aren't set up to do it well, they are a dinner oriented restaurant and the staff isn't excited about breakfast and there isn't a focus on it.
The food sounded much better than it actually tasted. Our special request (for my vegetarian fiance') was badly executed. We were refused salt when the food turned out to be bland. Seems the restaurant doesn't think their food needs to be salted. They are wrong.
Try it for dinner, but avoid BRABO for breakfast.
Food and service were wonderful! Highly recommended!
This was our third visit to Brabo and I waited until now to provide my thoughts. All three were special events, two of which the staff knew about, the other they didn't. Each time the staff succeeded in enhancing our significant days. From our superb waiters, Rigaa and Jonathan, and the sommellier, David, to each of the chefs, we felt as though we were the only ones in the restaurant. This is a fantastic establishment -- if you're local and looking to get away for a night, reserving a room in the hotel and hitting up the restaurant for dinner and a late breakfast the next AM will more than do the trick.
Thought the food and service was quite good. I had the lamb..flavor was good, but it was a bit tough otherwise it would have been 5 star.
thursday wine tastings on the rooftop terrace too!
enjoyable and memorable. Staff was pleasant, attentive, without being overbearing. Food was perfect.
The restaurant was Empty and a bit embarrassing to have brought a client.
The starters were all outstanding. The salmon entre was supposed to be Copper River salmon, but seemed to be regular sockeye... not tasty. There was no flavor for the rib eye steak. This was the second visit.. not nearly as good as first one a couple of months ago. Perhaps they were all on summer vacation.
My friend and I had a very nice experience while dining @ Brabo. Everyone was very attentive and the food was wonderful. Beautiful presentation. It does get a bit loud in the dining area closest to the bar, so if you'd prefer a quieter space, I'd recommend asking for seating towards the back.
The food was wonderful...the service was not. The hostess was grumpy when we asked for a table in a quieter area of the restaurant, and our waiter kept forgetting our drinks. He needed help from another waiter to take our order.
The decor and ambiance is wonderful though! I would go back definitely and hope for a different waiter.
Unfortunately our experience was not a good as it could have been for two reasons: our waiter was smug and condescending and not very helpful, coupled with his accent which made his English very difficult to understand. While the food was good, we felt it was over-priced compared to other restaurants of this caliber. Gorgeous dining room, but the noise from the extremely loud bar made it almost impossible to enjoy dinner conversation with our friends.
Food was excellent and staff very friendly. It was kind of loud but we were accommodated when we asked not to be seated by the bar.
The food was okay but no where near the price they ask. Furthermore, I thought that the portions were a bit small or lacking in ingredients. While the Belgian frites were good, they were way too salty.
The service was excellent!
Service was pleasant, but not particularly competent. Food was strong on presentation, yet was a bit over salted, ingredients were pretty good. Sauce on a good steak tasted a bit canned. Espresso was not well made. We might try brunch, but at that price range we were not impressed.
We had lovely time. Great service and delicious food. This is clearly the best of the chef's restaurants. A nice addition to Old Town.
Excellent!!! The food is cooked to perfection each and everytime.
The food is certainly worthy of Robert Wiedmaier's name. And the service is nothing short of exceptional.
I ate at the bar and had a lot of fun chatting with the bartenders and they have a great happy hour deal.
Excellent meal, personable service, and a knowledgeable sommelier. Try it. It's great.
Food was significantly less exciting than expected. The hype of a Wiedmaier restaurant in Old Town was dashed with mediocre food. I can find many more restaurants in the area at the same price with better value and more upscale cuisine. Disappointed at the very least. Will take off my "must go" list.
