Great service and wonderful restaurant week menu. Wonderful wine list with a knowledgeable and helpful staff. We will definitely be back for the Chef’s tasting menu. Atmosphere was a bit Louder than expected but as we were seated towards the back it wasn’t so loud that we couldn’t hear each other.
Party of four dined to take advantage of the Alexandria Week menu. Service and service was outstanding. Only issues was that the room was very noisy due to no sound attenuation--carpets, drapes, etc., so conversation was difficult.
Came for a girls night during restaurant week and had an amazing experience! The service was wonderful and the meal was just as good! Would highly recommend!
The food was excellent. Our waiter, Cosmo, was excellent too! We never felt rushed...it ended up being a 3 hr. meal/birthday celebration. I had not dined there for a few years...I think the new chef is wonderful. The charcuterie/cheese plate was delicious and the cassoulet was a nice combination of duck, sausage and beans.
We went with the Restaurant Week menu tonight, which was excellent: tomato soup w/smoked paprika (appetizer), beet salad (appetizer), beef bourguignon, and cheesecake. We also got the wine pairings, which were excellent. The only downside of the evening was the waiter, Gregory. He was a bit of a jerk and totally disinterested in explaining the dishes and the wines. It felt like we were putting him out to have him wait on us. Such a shame, because we’ve always liked this restaurant. Robert Wiedmaier is no longer affiliated with the restaurant. Even so, the food was still delicious. The service was off.
Service was extremely slow. Soup was cold. Mother's meal was bland and tasteless. Mine was good. Both of our desserts were inedible so we left them after one bit. Regular Price would have been very high for what we got had it not been for Restaurant Week special. Would not return.
Restaurant week! Great!!
We went to celebrate my friend’s 65th birthday and retirement. It happens daily to be restaurant week. The service was excellent and the pre-fix dinner was wonderful. Everyone in the party enjoyed every course and the wine pairings. It was perfect.
Our party of four checked in to BRABO for our 6:45PM reservation. We were told the table would soon be cleared and ready for us. As we were waiting, another party of four came in and said they had a reservation for 7:00PM. They were sat before us. ANOTHER party of four came in, again, checked in for their 7:00PM reservation, and again, were sat before us. We did not understand their order system but it felt rude and did not start out experience out well. We were there for restaurant week and the food wasn't bad, but honestly, it wasn't great. I chose the beet salad for my starter and could only taste the mustard dressing. For my entree, I chose the chicken leg and it was a lollipop size of a chicken bite with a bone! The almond pound cake was a bad choice- wish I had gone with the cheesecake. There was also a really long lag time between rounds. Overall, I don't think the experience was worth the check.
Absolutely amazing. The staff was incredibly and we also got to meet the chef who was amazing. We will be back again.
Restaurant week, pleasant service and good food. A bit stuffy.
Restaurant Week 2018. I've wanted to try Brabo for several years and now I can check that box. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't anywhere NEAR what I expected -- especially at its price point. We had a lovely window table and our server -- I can't remember his name -- was engaging and pleasant. The beet salad was pretty basic -- nothing extraordinary. The "deconstructed" shrimp cocktail was good -- decent sized shrimp. The tomato sauce was good but there wasn't enough of it; unlike the bed of lettuce it was served on -- too much. The best thing about the dish was the horseradish panna cotta -- delicious and really lit up the shrimp. A little more of that tomato sauce would have made it even sparkier. Beef bourguignon was just okay -- there was not much sauce, it was VERY SKIMPY on the vegetables and was not served over noodles or anything, The meat itself was tender and moist, but there wasn't much taste to it. It was a far cry from traditional "beef burgundy." The salmon in puff pastry was just as disappointing -- the fish itself had no flavor at all. Whatever vegetables were layered between it and the pastry were stronger than the salmon, but not strong enough that I could tell what they were. It may have been leeks? Just a totally underwhelming entree. As for desserts, the orange almond pound cake was divine! But the espresso panna cotta was meh, at best. And the weird, green spongy garnish -- I think it was supposed to be pistaschio -- totally looked like mold or fungus; and pretty much tasted like that, as well. Finally, the hot buttered rum was also a disappointment. None of the allspice, nutmeg or butter listed in the description came through. It tasted like merely a glass of hot booze. I was disappointed in Brabo -- perhaps it's gone downhill from past years. If I could dine out at that price point regularly, I'd choose another place every time. Sigh.
Dinner was good. Actually prefer the OLD Barbo menu over this one. Strange selection of items, nothing seemed to fit together to make complete meal. Either really heavy or really light items. Seemed more like a lunch menu than dinner. Very loud and tables are close together. I asked for a quiet table on my reservation and told them it was my husband's birthday, but no one seemed to be aware. When we got there the bar was VERY loud and the valet parking attendant was no where to be seen.Dinner was good, not exceptional. Wine, service and bread were great.
Great food as always...steak was perfect and truffle mashed potatoes were so tasty
We were very disappointed with this restaurant. We found the quality of the food mediocre and the value shameful. From the soup, the chicken entree, the minuscule scallop entree, the minuscule filet of beef entree, all were disappointing and practically invisible. Very disappointing.
First date. Would have preferred a quieter, private table to talk, but the food and service was great. You can not go wrong with the white wine mussels. The server, Dave, was great too.
Sunday Brunch. Slow, easy pace. Bloody Mary was different, but still good enough to have had two. Omelette could stand being upped to three eggs and some standard fillings.
We had a very nice meal to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was excellent and we really enjoyed the food.
The scallops were good but the portion was very small--would've been more appropriately listed as an appetizer. Shrimp cocktail was mediocre and overpriced.
I have had good meals here in the past, but this occasion was a disappointment. Nearly empty restaurant, yet every course from bread to dessert took very long. My halibut was overcooked and both our portions were very small. For the same price there are plenty of other options nearby.
Excellent service and wonderful gourmet dishes. My husbands birthday was very special. The wine pairings were wonderful. We’ll definitely celebrate at this restaurant in the future.
We loved the chef’s tasting and wine pairing. It was the perfect way to spend my birthday!
Cosmo remembered us from a year ago!!!! Once again, a great time with awesome food!
The brunch food was not very good at all. We had the corn beef hash with poached eggs. The poached eggs were overcooked and not runny at all. The hash was oily and lacked flavor. We also had the French toast which didn’t taste like much. It was very bland and the bourbon molasses was way over powering. The $18 lamb burger was very dry and was nothing special. The only bright side was the pastry tray which tasted great but I’m not sure it was made at the restaurant. I believe it was produced by an outside pastry company who services the hotel and restaurant. Our servicer was not bad but it took a good 20-25 mins before we got served our entrees. Overall it was a very disappointing experience.
A three and a half hour long, NYE wait and meal...
Our 9:45 reservation didn’t afford us seats until 10:45. We ordered our 5 course meal selection as soon as our waiter arrived, but didn’t even get our second course and wine pairing until after the New Year. The service timing and delivery was so poor, we asked the waiter to delivery our final two courses at the same time, along with our check.
I’ve been here before with my wife, and we both loved it, but last night was so poorly executed (in addition to the missing food elements from our first course and extremely fatty NY strip), that we won’t ever return.
I made a reservation for the new year's Eve and I can say that unfortunately the experience was really disappointing. The 5 tasting special menu was not worth the price as the food did not come as we expected (as example, a soggy risotto, an overcooked halibut and a really plain cheesecake). The wine pairing menu was also disappointing with a poor selection of wines. We really expected more from this restaurant for the price and reviews. We tend to book restaurants when we travel and we really like to experiment different foods and places to eat. Unfortunately I would not recommend this restaurant by the experience we had.
My wife and I dined there on New Year's Eve. First I had to wait for the valet parking attendant to show up for about 10 minutes. Our reservation was for 7:30pm and the restaurant was already busy. We were seated at our two person table which was nicely set. The seats are comfortable. The champagne we ordered was excellent. The menu was a five course tasting menu. After we put our order in we waited a long time....say...30 minutes for the first course to come out. But the server brought the second course, not the first so we had to send that back. After a few more minutes we did get our first course. The other four followed at about 20-25 minute intervals. To me, the kitchen was a bit overloaded. My meal was satisfactory but my wife's steak was too well done in parts and difficult to eat. She mentioned this to our server and the restaurant was concerned, offering various solutions which we declined since my wife was fairly full anyway. Later our server gave us free after dinner wines to help compensate. The wines were excellent. The service was attentive and hospitable even though it appeared there wasn't enough staff, both inside the kitchen and outside, to properly handle all the guests.
The dining room was quite loud and a large party was sat next to my wife and I which detracted from our anniversary dinner experience. The restaurant could have easily sat us somewhere more quiet and definitely not next to a large party of 8-10. It was not a great experience for us - not sure if we would return.
There were 6 of us for dinner, one of whom is a vegetarian. After some discussion, we all decided to have the tasting menu with wine, if they could accommodate the veg. It was all handled perfectly. In fact the lamb substitute was a wonderful mushroom dish - mushrooms are her favorite! All the dishes were excellent, and service was exceptional and not intrusive. I would highly recommend Brabo. It’s close to King St. Metro; they have valet parking; and there is parking close by. We went on Dec. 30th, and they weren’t busy at all. It made the meal so relaxed and private. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you!
Incredible meal, start to finish. Never disappoints!
Excellent mussels! Outstanding octopus - don’t miss!
We had excellent service - outstanding waiter! The duck a 'orange was superb...actually, the best duck I've ever had.
Same excellent, friendly service as in past visits. Top quality menu.
great service, great ambiance. We were guests at the Lorien and it was very convenient.
The bar area is very enjoyable for an after dinner drink.
Went to Brabo for our 10th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff made us feel very welcome and provided some nice extras for our anniversary celebration. Well done Brabo!
Wonderful meal- they really tried to please. Food was excellent service was excellent and sommelier was very helpful
Menu was impressive but not everyone in our party was satisfied with their meal. Small portions and dry meat left half the table unsatisfied. Pair that with the fact that one of our colleagues asked for a glass of scotch that the bartender felt no need to mention costs $75/pour. Seriously? No thanks. Plenty of great spots to eat in Old Town. I was disappointed because we were really looking forward to trying Brabo.
They have a new look with the same great staff. Our best date night in 2017. Food superb and Valerie provided excellent service.
We had a very nice meal at Brabo. Evereything was delicious, but my main dish which was Halibut and it was a little dry, and not very flavorful. Our waiter was excellet!! So pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. He heard us say we were celebrating birthdays, and brought us an after dinner drink to celebrate. I would definitely be back!
The service was outstanding, presentation was first class, and the food was very good.
It was a bit pricy...D.
