We sat in the more formal dining room for a grown-up anniversary dinner and had a lovely meal. French fries are fabulous, as is the beef for two. Nice wines by the glass, which is always a pleasant surprise. Looks like a great option for happy hour!
We had a very nice time, and felt very well taken care of. We ordered the radish board, the open ravioli, the monkfish with ratatouille, and the trio of ice creams, and everything was tasty -- though we weren't bowled over by anything. The dining room was beautiful, comfortable, and romantic. I definitely would go back.
Absolutely perfect and wonderful experience. The food was fantastic and the staff went above and beyond for us since we were celebrating a birthday. Best service I’ve had at a restaurant in the DC area by far!!
We have eaten at Brabo in the past and it's always been fantastic, but this night was a cut above. We had the Duck l'Orange, and the chef concocted a masterwork. (The online menu says to order the duck 24 hours in advance. I called the day before and the woman who answered said she'd let them know but that it didn't seem necessary. Trust me, it matters. Read on.)
The chef brought out the finished, whole duck himself, presented with great art on a long, white platter. It was simply beautiful. He told us he had braised the legs and thighs for four hours. (See why you should order in advance?)
Then he returned to the kitchen and sliced it up masterfully, the server returning with a stunningly arranged platter.
The taste? Mercy! (Or "Merci," as it were!) The dark meat melted in one's mouth. The breast sections were somehow cooked medium rare despite a crispy skin that coated a mouth-watering layer of luscious fat.
Anyway, just a spectacular dinner. I am NOT one of those people, but I have to add that I recently spent a week in Paris and ate duck four times. While all four dinners were amazing, none measured up to what Brabo's chef pulled off with his duck l'orange.
Food and service were good but there was a particularly loud group of women making so much noise my guest and I could bearly hear each other speaking at a normal conversation level.
We were guests of the hotel and decided to try the restaurant for Brunch. I had the Radish Board and the peach and Goat Cheese salad. My husband tried the french toast. We were both very pleased with out choices. Our waitress, Marie, was excellent about keeping my husband's coffee full without just topping it off and checked on us often enough to ensure we wanted for nothing, but not so often as to be intrusive. The manager, Maria, also came by the table to inquire if we were enjoying our meal and stayed for a brief bit of pleasant conversation making it more far more welcoming than the typical "glad-handing" that managers too often do that makes them seem more like politicians than genuinely interested in your feedback on their establishment.
It is a little pricey, but if you want to treat yourself - I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Best dining in Old Town. From cocktails to appetizers to main course- the food was inventive and well prepared without being fussy. Service was great-attentive but unobtrusive and very knowledgeable.
Decent food but our waiter was inattentive, slow and condescending. They put a large and loud party right next to us and when we asked to move it seemed like it was a hassle to them even though the restaurant was only half full. Had been here before and it was much nicer, very disappointing this time.
I have been to Brabo several times over the last 6 months and it is a top notch experience every time. The food is amazing and the service is unparalleled to any other restaurant I’ve been to in the DMV. Highly recommend for a nice meal. And the complimentary valet parking is a huge plus!
Food was great and the Expresso Martinis were awesome! Service however was very slow and it took awhile for the food to come from the kitchen even though the restaurant only had a few customers.
We had a wonderful celebratory dinner for my husband's birthday. The menu at Brabo is limited, but the food is excellent. He started with the octopus appetizer. I had the pear salad and we split the charcuterie plate. All were outstanding. He had the pork chop, I had the hangar steak with frites. The meat was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The restaurant treated us the opera cake for the birthday celebration. It was exquisite. The wine selected by our superb waiter (Cosmo) was perfect in taste and price. This is a great date special, occasion spot away from the hectic riverside in Old Town. The pace of service was just right for a quiet Sunday evening dinner. I highly recommend you try it!
I enjoyed Brabo for brunch with a date. Service and pacing were spot on. My burger was quite good and cooked a perfect medium rare. The fries were good too. My date enjoyed her food. 4 star because the bloody mary was unremarkable and the menu selections are but too limited for brunch.
Saturday evening dinner, restaurant probably 2/3 full at best, extremely protracted wait between first and main course. Disappointing.
Expensive but worth the price. Food was delicious and service was exceptional. Only (minor) complaint was noise; couldn't hear our server a quarter of the time. Will definitely go again.
This unusual and perfect little spot in Alexandria is located just as King street loses its commercial streak, but not far from the subway. It is inside the Lorien Hotel, a place I need to remember if I ever want to stay overnight in Alexandria. There is a lovely courtyard just outside, which announces it is open to the public. Starting with the warm bread, the food was exceptional, the original preparations and sauces that accompany every dish outstanding, but I was particularly pleased with the atmosphere: there is that old times feel to the whole place , as one finds in Alexandria in general; there is a bar, but it was very quiet on Sunday late afternoon. One can, however, also sit in a separate area. We decided to take a window table and had a view of the courtyard. The waiter was particularly attentive. And I will ignore the little details, like the fact that one steak had a second try and the salad did come with the dressing, because the final result was so satisfactory, both for the fish and for the steaks.
Brabo never disappoints! All around the best dining in Old Town Alexandria.
Excellent ceviche and the fish was perfectly prepared. Service seemed inhibited by a slow kitchen but was acceptable. Cocktails varied and exceptionally good.
Amazing service! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I made the reservation for an adult birthday dinner. We knew the food would be good, but were totally surprised to see a very creative vegetarian tasting menu offering-- it was superb! Our veggie guest and world traveler said it was the first one she'd ever seen, and loved almost all (the strawberry shortcake was a letdown). Wait staff was attentive but unobtrusive, the secluded table was quiet and made talking across the table easy. Thanks for a great night.
Food and drinks were both very good. Service was friendly and welcoming. It was a nice place for a quiet conversation. It was only half full so unsure the volume when the place is packed. One of the better places for cocktails that I've found in Old Town. I'll be back!
Our waiter was condescending, arrogant and inattentive. His attitude was not only directed at us, but at other staff - who he scolded in front of patrons repeatedly.
The Angus burger was good. The risotto was saltier than the fries that came with the burger. The cheese page was very nice. The Purple Rain craft cocktail was meh, all you could taste was like - very astringent.
For us, this was a disappointment - we hadn't been to Brabo in a while and it appears to have slipped.
Great food. Good beer. Good service.
Wonderful restaurant with great food, superb service and quieter atmosphere. We very much enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Brabo.
Good evening in a quiet place. Food outstanding by a quality chef.
We didn’t get off to a good start when we were seated in the bistro rather than the dining room, despite the fact that I was told differently when I confirmed the reservation earlier in the day. The service throughout the evening was slow and surprisingly unprofessional for this restaurant. After waiting a long time, we finally had to ask someone to clear the table after our first course; it took so long that we thought our main course might arrive before it was cleared. Empty cocktail glasses were left on the table and we had to ask for water even though there seemed to be enough staff to provide more attentive service. We had to flag down the server to inquire about our main course because it was taking so long between courses; we actually considered leaving but we had already waited a long time. We finally spoke with a manager and he apologized and gave us a discount on the bill. We enjoyed the food at Brabo (as always), but the service on this occasion was not up to par.
Love this place and a perfect place for a Tuesday date night!
Nice place and great service. Was very loud make my cnversation difficult
Superb experience. One of us did the pric fixe dinner with the wine pairing. It was amazingly well done. Jose picked terrific wines. He explained the wine and the reason for pairing with that particular course. One of the best meals we have ever had. Sorry we didn’t know about it the night before as we would have eaten there both nights.
Went this place with my girlfriend because I wanted to go someplace where it is affordable and had ambient environment.
I wanted to propose to her but at the same time, I didnt want people to notice us. Although it was almost impossible but early reservation with special request helped me to find a good spot.
The staff member was very helpful and all the server was knowledgeable explaining about the food. Also they were very supportive and careful when I was ready to take action toward my girl.
Overall, I would come here for a drink because they have many selection to wines and good spot for special occasion.
Best salmon I ever had in my life- not exaggerating. This place has the type of food you see on tv that puts people in a daze! Life changing!
Enjoyable Mother's Day brunch. There weren't a lot of choices, but they were all good and everyone was pleased with their meal. I didn't get it, but the vegetarian option sounded delicious (risotto primavera).
I felt the value was on par with the price, which I've not found as much as I'd like recently (and as much as I think I should) with fixed price menus.
Most importantly, Mom was happy!
Lame selection and overpriced
We attended Brado restaurant for Mother’s Day brunch (3 of us). The service was odd, there seemed to be lots of people around; but, we had to ask for everything by getting someone’s attention. For example, everyone around us got bread at table , we had to ask. The food itself wasn’t very good for the cost and limited menu. First time there, probably not going back.
Went for Mother's Day, left very disappointed, felt like I had been robbed. Overpriced, NY strip that my wife ordered was super tough, chewy and filled with fat and sinews. The waiter didn't offer us bread or give us bread even though all the tables around us were offered and given bread. Paid over $200 for the meal and left hungry.
At the moment this is the best restaurant in Alexandria. We had the mussels, the classic preparation, as our appetizer; we have never had plumper, more succulent mussels ever. The rest of the meal was equally as good, perfectly prepared rockfish with extraordinary fiddle heads, and an excellent escargot dish. A great meal!
Service outweighed the food — which was very good. Personable and attentive wait staff. The valet parking (free) is a huge benefit.
Will return many times.
Corn-beef hash was a big disappointment -- chunks of fatty meat and overcooked eggs. Steak & eggs and the French toast were excellent. Service was good although the kitchen was slow. Because we have been often and always had an excellent experience, we would return but this meal was a major strike against them.
Used to go to Brabo often five years ago when we lived in DC. It’s changed a lot and not for the better. Menu very limited, appetizer selection small, and overall not as good as its sister restaurants Brasserie Beck and Marcel’s.
We hadn't been to the restaurant in more than a year and was disappointed in the change of decor. It used to be prettier.
The food was fine but not exceptional. Service was attentive.
