Excellent all around. Service and food was so amazing!
Great low key brunch spot.
My main course, vegetarian ravioli, was quite good, but my appetizet was good but not that interesting. My guest's salad had to be returned because it was too salty. Disappointing because this has consistently been a quite good dining experience.
Easter prix fix
First table was in brasserie and was rather cold with Cheerios all over the floor :-(
I asked to be moved to another table in a warmer location void of Cheerios. We were happily moved to another table.
Things were looking up.
But.... had to ask for water twice;
Salmon encroute was served on a very hot plate and the salmon was very dry and under seasoned. I asked for some lemon, but my dish was taken away and a new dish was set down. This time the salmon was cold, which would have been great if this was to be a cold salad - still needed an acid. And the bottom of the dish was covered in some sort of red sauce which stained the white table linens. By this time was ready to just call it quits, and mentioned this to another waiter (host/hostess was no where to be found) but instead, a third salmon dish was sent out. Now this should have been the first dish I received well seasoned, not dry, and hot (steaming hot though). I took a few bites of this but waiter then came by and took away my dish. Aaaarg!! Eh I was “full” anyway. Sigh.
Bright side was we were told we did not have to pay food bill. Which was nice, but could have been avoided if dishes were correct in the first place.
Do like Brabo and will go back, but there needs to be some attention to service.
A party of two. Seated at a table for 4 in the middle of a very noisy room. Was hard to hear not facing each other. Easter Brunch.
Traveled to Old Town and D.C. for our anniversary and we had brunch at Brabo. Since it was Easter Sunday the menu was Prix Fixe and fabulous! Our server was Cosmo and he was great - attentive but not hovering, informative/knowledgeable but not overtly. They were very busy but all of the staff seemed to function with ease as if they were managing a small crowd instead of the never ending patrons that were flowing in. We really enjoyed Cosmo’s presence and definitely the atmosphere. Had a really nice brunch date and we look forward to visiting again.
We love coming here and it’s often the choice for celebration meals. Our last visit was a group that included a vegan, a gluten-free eater, and a few true foodies. Everyone left happy! The service is always terrific and they really made our birthday girl feel special.
My family ate at Brabo during our long weekend trip in Alexandria. When we arrived, the service was very slow, as in 30 minutes to get drinks and 45 minutes to get bread kind of slow. It was very frustrating. It was a challenge to get someone's attention. However once we did, the staff was very nice. I was under the impression that they were understaffed. As the meal went on, the service picked up. The food was pretty good and the menu was creative.
Amazing service. Spectacular wine selection. The bison tartare was out of this world and the seafood was cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back next time I’m in the area.
Loved this restaurant! Very nice place for my birthday. Food was fabulous.
Sunday night. Slow, we get it. Our server was condescending and indifferent. He clearly did not want to be there and he made it apparent from the start.
Appetizers of octopus, shishito peppers and charcuterie were excellent, notwithstanding our server. All four entree’s were mediocre and overpriced. The “grilled” lobster thermordore was clearly not grilled and was a lazy, sloppy, overpowering undercooked waste of $35. Scallops were acceptable but overpriced. Salmon was clearly farm raised not wild and smothered in sauce to mask that. “Special” of night, Beef Bourguignon was obviously leftover last nights short ribs.
Need I be any more specific? Don’t waste your time or money here, especially given that there are literally dozens of fine options within just a few blocks on King Street.
Our meal was very disappointing. We have dined here since the hotel opened. We have enjoyed many wonderful meals in the past.
There has been a change in chef's in the past year or so. Food now is lackluster at best. Fancy descriptions with poor execution. It did not help that they were holding two large groups at the same time.
When reserving check to see how busy they will be with outside groups.
Service (or the kitchen) was slower than previous visits -- too much lag time between courses. The tomato soup was excellent and the lobster thermidor very good but not exceptional. Dessert was disappointing. Not our best experience but we would return.
No. I will not use open table if I have to write a review before
Making a new reservation
Cosmo is the best waiter! He consistently deliver great service and a winning attitude despite it being a busy brunch crowd. As usual the menu specials did not disappoint. The Korean chicken and waffles was a departure from the normal Belgian flare, but was delicious and inspired! Kudos to the chef for taking chances and delivering a great meal.
Service was terrible. Forgot our order and server was not knowledgeable of the menu at all. Food quality and presentation is not what I remember it to be either.
Delicious brunch in Old Town! Coffee was very good, as were both entrees. The french toast was a significant portion and very rich; we're glad we split the french toast and the Brabo benedict. Would definitely go back for a nice brunch!
We will never return. I had requested a quiet table but was placed in the middle of the traffic pattern. We had to shout over the noise. Food was mediocre. Overall dreadful experience.
The service was very slow, although the servers were as pleasant as could be. There were four of us and the dinner began at 6:15 and ended about 9:30, we each had just two courses.
I ordered lobster thermador, what came was a very small lobster tail broiled and covered in an a pinkish orangish sauce of unknown origin. For all I could say, it might have been an inferior bottled salad dressing. The dish included what appeared to be sections of small potatoes but they were cooked hard and tasteless, so I couldn't really say they were potatoes with any confience. There were some other particles on the plate but I had no idea what they might have been.. My partner had salmon, which is one of her favorites, but she said it was tasteless and overcooked.
I had been to Brabo twice before, and had not planned to return, but did return to join two friends, but will not return again.
I might also add that I am not a particularly demandng or critical person. i tend to be very sparing of restaurants because I'm aware of the difficulty and the challenges they face, but this was a bit over the top and I can't resist the opportunity to voice my disappointment.
Excellent, flexible service. Appetizers excellent. Main courses, including specials of the day only acceptable.
Everything was good, but not as good as expected. We have had better meals in the past at Brabo. Service was friendly, but not as attentive as you would expect at a restaurant in this price point. As one guest said...I wanted to be wow'ed, but was not.
My girlfriends and I had a great time at Brabo the other night. The food was delicious and service was superb. Thank you for being exceptional.
The service was slow, but not due to our fine server, David. Seems they were understaffed wfor Sunday Brunch crowd - the hostess served our entrees. Food did not come to order - eggs overdone. To their credit they did bring fresh ones when we noted the problem. The pastry basket was good, but not worth the extra to the bill. All in all, I was disappointed in Brunch.
Slow service and mediocre food. Server was nice but slow. Couple was seated 15min after us, yet their starters and meal arrived before ours and we placed order as soon as we sat.
Highly recommend the charcuterie; shisito peppers; and bison burger. Happy hour snacks were amazing!!
Not able to be seated in the main dining room for some reason. Seated in an extension of the bar area. unfortunate. Food and service was very good.
Food and service was very good! Nice wine list too and everyone was very accommodating. The only negative was the noise level was horrible. We could not hear each other talk at the table it was soooo loud! Certainly would have been bad for a date, as you wouldn’t be able to hear or get to know the other person.
We had a group of 5 celebrating a birthday. While we were there to celebrate and enjoy a great meal, a table in the bar was obnoxiously loud the entire time we were there, nearly 3 hours. We were seated for almost an hour before we were provided bread and it took almost 45 minutes to get the first drinks ordered and it wasn't extremely crowded. The appetizers were fairly quick once our order was taken, but the food then took nearly another 45 minutes afterwards. The service seemed very slow to us. The drinks, bread, appetizers, main course, and dinner were all extremely delicious and well presented. For the price, the service could be improved.
Rowdy and loud. Not a good place for dinner for two. We were seated next to a large group and asked to move. Manager did not move us even though there were several open tables in the back of the restaurant. Hugely disappointing experience.
Did not know what to expect, and was delighted by the experience. The food was excellent. I took some food home, opened the box, and found an extra small loaf of bread included. The server was terrific. And of course I did not know how good he was until I opened the take home box in the privacy of my home. Brabo is the kind of experience you want to have over and over again.
Compliments to the Chef! Radish board is excellent and the poached halibut is the best halibut I have ever had. Definitely recommend dining here.
The food was amazing, which helped but could not entirely make up for the bad service. It took over an hour for us to get our food after we ordered. We asked a couple of times for an update and kept being told “it is right behind me” but then waited another 10+ minutes until we asked again. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks and when we asked questions about the menu, the waitress told us she didn’t know what was on the menu and would need to ask someone. We never got the answers to our questions. As much as I enjoyed the brunch food itself, I don’t think we’ll go back. There’s plenty of other restaurants with great food and much better service in the area.
The food was exceptional, the service was very attentive and courteous, and the atmosphere was quite pleasant. My wife and I were very happy with our decision to spend a belated Valentine's dinner there.
Great spot. Amazing food.
Had not been here for a bit. It did not disappoint. The food was incredible. For appetizers we had crudités and tomatoe soup. For entres we had scallops and haddock. All were excellent. The flavors were a delight. Our waiter Nigel was attentive and entertaining. Let us taste 2 wines before deciding on a bottle. The experience was perfect. We will definitely be back soon!
HASAN was professional and courteous. Great personality. GREAT SERVICE!!!!
A group of dined on Valentine's Day together and had the special. The food was decent although the portion was small. The service, however, was downright awful. Our waiter, a middle-aged individual, was rude, curt and inconsiderate. He rushed through our orders and was brusque each time he interacted with us. At one point he carried a glass of wine to one in our party with his thumb stuck inside the wine glass. This is a sure way to ruin the reputation of an otherwise decent restaurant.
Food was innovative and special, and very tasty - but the real standout was the cocktail program. The menu was extensive, both unique and classic drinks, including a whole page of egg-white drinks, which are my favorite. The bartender was very talented; the Vieux Carre was better than in New Orleans! I will be back on my next trip to the DC area.
Worth the extra expense if you wish to receive an outstanding dining experience
