Boxwood On The Roof At The London West Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
I am from Panama so I was looking for a romantic restaurant for dinner with my husband; the view from the rooftop was impressive! Great service, we were seated and served almos immediately; the menu was short but very variated for all tastes; with very creative dishes and combinations I would’ve never expected but impressive in taste. Definitely worth the price and the trip. We will return every time we will get back to LA.
The martini's are huge. The food was delicious and the fact that they give you a basket of bread with authentic olive oil is almost unheard of anymore in LA which is a complete travesty (not everyone is on a carb free diet) so thank you. The view is spectacular. Our waiter was so lovely. After dinner with a cocktail in hand around the pool and the raging fireplace was a +++++. LOVED!
A great spot to enjoy the evening sunset over a nice meal. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and shown to a lovely table. Definite lack of the pretension that abounds at so many lesser LA spots. Here they welcome their customers and cater to them. We started with the roasted beet salad and the lobster roll, both of which were beautifully plated, as well as delicious. The filet mignon was huge, and prepared exactly as requested. Their burger with Tallegio is fantastic! The wine list is fairly limited, but we found a lovely Bordeaux that was also reasonably priced.
I live across the street and have frequented the restaurant downstairs. It's been awhile since I've been back as I've moved away for about 15 months. Boxwood on the Roof was amazing. I loved sharing the shall plates., glad they kept the tuna roll and the skinny fries in the menu. We ordered the crab toast and it was great! I wish I had saved room for the oyster shooters and the steak that our amazing server recommended. Great view, FANTASTIC service...lovely little treat :) can't wait to come back
very disappointing, it is not on the roof. it is in a dark empty dining room in the rear of the hotel. They claim they close the roof due to cold weather in the winter. Umm it was 97 degrees out and we are having along hot heat wave in Los Angeles.
I took my mother there for her first visit to the west coast to experience fine dining on a roof top with a view of the city. Something she can not experience back home.
This restaurant practices in false advertising and frankly the food and service were sub par.
Customer service has a lot to improve on. The waiter who was serving my date and I was very snobby and had an attitude. I don't know if it was because he is old or because he was having a bad day. Towards the end of my date, he changed his attitude, but by then, it was too late. He had made his impression already
This place was good but could be so much better. It's like the dinner seating was an afterthought. There are umbrellas sticking up through the center of the table, so you can't see the person across from you, and the only lighting is this bright white LED thing attached to the pole, so the mood is weak. Food was tasty, service was good, the view from up there is great, it just doesn't feel finished. It's like they threw it together at the last minute, not expecting anybody to show up.
The expectations was higher than the actual experience. Food was good but particular the Front of House staff was awful. We had to wait for our table 30min and once we got the table and sat down we were asked to move again because of a larger group. Also surprisingly to us the plastic cups served with the drinks.
There were 4 in our party. We ordered lots of appetizers and shared them family style. I definitely recommend this as you get to taste a bit of everything on offer. Nothing disappointed. We also each ordered an Entree. Fillet Mingion and the chicken tikka are yum... And definitely order the English sticky toffee pudding omg I can still taste it.
Go for the view - not for the food. Of 6 dishes, 1 was excellent (crab toast), 1 was so bland we sent it back (tagliatelle short rib). The other 3 were unimpressive.
But the view is really fantastic - not a bad seat to be had. And it's very casual, so ok to go in shorts and flip-flops. The service was very friendly. Overall, the price is reasonable.
The wine list is absurdly overpriced - better to bring your own and pay the $35 corkage. With validation, the hotel valet will hit you for $10 - better than the $14 at the SLS - not as nice as free at the Four Seasons.
Doubt we'll be back because we're foodies - but if you reduce expectations, you can enjoy a great rooftop dining experience.
We came to this restaurant for our wedding anniversary with some of our friends. The view from up there is spectacular. The decor and ambiance is very nice. The staff was so friendly and very attentive. I am so glad we chose this restaurant for our occasion. We were supposed to leave by 9:30 or 10:00, but we had such a great time and felt so welcome and comfortable that we didn't leave until 11:00 p.m. What a great place!
I came here with a girlfriend for dinner and was very impressed with the decor. It was relatively quiet for a Friday night but great rooftop views.
The drinks were good but weak. Barely felt anything after two of them.
When the food arrived, we were less than impressed. The oysters were $3 each and were fishy & warm - not served over ice. The spicy tuna roll was OK.... but was expecting so much more. We ordered a charcuterie plate and had to request more bread (they only give you one piece for the entire board) and it tasted just okay.
Overall, for the price paid - definitely not worth it.
It was a very hot day in LA. We arrived for a late lunch and had the place to ourselves. We were greeted by a young lady who was very considerate, asking if we would prefer shade for the both of us. The food was very good, but portions are small and pricey. Considering the view and ambiance, it was worth it. BTW they no longer tack on 20% for service.
We arrived and no table was reserved. She told us we will have to wait 30 minutes because they had a reservation at 2:30 (we reserve for 2:00 pm and it was 2pm...). I told her "so basically you take reservation and have no table available" so another girl decided to go double check and find us an available table.
The girl's attitude about it was rude and she couldn't care less.
Thankfully the other waitress was nice and find us a table very quickly.
Good points : the food was very good without being crazy pricey. The atmosphere is also very enjoyable. I will go back but not for important occasions.
My husband and I came here for dinner on Friday night and thought it was just ok. The food was nice and the view was amazing but it really seemed more like a poolside snack venue rather than an expensive dinner. The umbrellas were all down which meant I had look around it to see my husband and our drinks came in cheap plastic cups, that's fine if it's just a poolside snack but for dinner they need to classy it up a bit .
I was hoping to impress two business associates with some rooftop dining. What we got was awful food and bad service parked on some artifical turf. I ordered the dineLA menu and got the steak. It was quite easily the worst piece of meat I've ever encountered. I ordered medium-rae and got a piece of rubber! Flavorless and tepid. Obviously the dine-LA menu was not appreciated by the Rooftop and no effort was made to make it seem otherwise. Two thirds of the way through my ceasar salad the main courses were brought out and shoved on the table. Without even being asked the waiter pulled my salad from under me! I ordered Peroni beer which were $7 on the menu and I was charged $8. I could go on...
The portions were too small. Not too many selections in the menu. The only thing attracted us was the scenery. When we got the bills. the server told us 20% of gratuity already added to the bills. We were a little surprised about it. It was not listed in the menu that we will be charged 20% gratuity and also we are only party of 2. We didn't get a superior service. I have never get charged 20% gratuity ever. Even when I went to a very nice high class restaurants, they only charged 18% gratuity. Did the restaurant's servers get pay enough? We are wondering if the restaurant's owner know about this. Just have to let people know what to expect from your bills. So don't order expensive wine because you will be charged 20% gratuity.
