Very disappointed in the recent menu changes which deleted many of their more interesting dishes. Does Bend really need more fish and chips, pasta, etc.? What gives? Also, the blaring music significantly detracts from the experience. Why push customer away? Most come for conversation with family and friends, not the obnoxious music. In summary, ownership appears to be losing their way.
The food was excellent! The staff was friendly.
Food was tasty, but very small portions, noisy open air environment. I likely won’t go back.
Overall a nice little place with a cool vibe, but my dish was way too salty and just not very interesting. Hoping to try it again and have. better experience.
Third time there; always great food!
The setting is really nice especially on the day we dined there and were able to sit outside in perfect weather. The restaurant looks nice on the inside too. Our server didn't tell us about the fish special offering till asked, did not come back to check on us, bring more water, see if we needed anything. I did have the daily fish special but my fish was so salty it was inedible. My friend had the Korean chicken bits and they were delicious. Bummed about it in general as it was quite expensive as well.
Great Meal! I can die a very happy man now! Go, the food was excellent!
Great menu, great food and great service.
My Old-fashioned was spot on! My friend found her vodka tonic refreshing and the men enjoyed their wine. The seasonal salad was great! I’d go back just to eat that. My gnocchi ricotta was very good, deep flavor. The others all had the bolognese which they said was rich, but the flavor was just average. My husband and I shared the beignets and they were fabulous! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and they arrived at the table fresh and hot! Our friends also enjoyed the cheesecake. Service was great and we might go back if we’re in the neighborhood.
Our meal of Shrimp Cocktail with heirloom tomatoes was very disappointing -- there were no heirloom tomatoes and a cocktail sauce was "painted" to one side of the bowl and was basically flavorless. The gnocchi was equally bland. We told our waitress that we were very disappointed in the shrimp and didn't have the heart to mention the gnocchi.
The noise level was too loud to hear. Fortunately, a table opened up outside and we were reseated and were able to enjoy conversing.
The food at Boxwood Kitchen is amazing! I had the chicken schnitzel which came with lemony-garlicky steamed chard (yum!) and spaetzle “Mac”ncheese (absolutely fabulous)...the perfectly cooked chicken was served on a delicious sweet pepper sauce (kind of like Romesco sauce)...the ambiance was meh...our server was excellent!
Very warm and airless space...probably will go back in the Fall!
First time, enjoyed our visit, although seems a bit plain and the location for a restaurant of this quality could be better. My sense was that with their minimalist decor they may be waiting for a better location to become available If it does we will probably visit more often!
That said as a pre concert dinner this was perfect. A bit noisy yes, but the food was great (except for a "favorite" appetizer that really didn't work for us but they did not charge us for it either! ) The pour on my $10 glass of chardonnay was a bit skimpy, but not really a surprise. Service was fine but not perfect, assumed as it was a pre concert crowd they were just busier than normal for an early hour, the service was friendly just a bit spotty.
All in all we will be back when we have more time. Will hope they find that better location sos the view of the parking lot turns into something more Bend appropriate, they do deserve it!
Best Brussels sprouts we’ve ever had.
This was our first time visiting boxwood kitchen. The food was wonderful, and the service was great. Highly recommend it.
Outstanding addition to the Bend dining scene. Started with the Brussell Sprouts which were perfectly seared and still had full flavor with ponzu and sesame seeds. The Kale Ceasar was perfect in every way...they use bay Kale which is more tender and the avocado based dressing with the pecorino liberally was a hit. We split the Steelhead with the red flannel hash. Great service and a very eclectic wine list. Nice to see this in the Old Mill district.
Best food we’ve had in town! Amazing!
Service was great. Food was outstanding. The Gnochi was do good. The spaetzle appetizer was great too. Cocktails were tasty, had 2 of them. Would come back.
Was warned about the noise levels so we sat outside.....Food was delicious but would rather have been inside to eat.
Outstanding food especially enjoyed the steelhead and the kale ceaser. Very attentive to getting food out quickly for the kids. Except for the fact that our server is a Cubs fan it was a great evening!😉
We were enjoying a 4-day vacation in Bend with friends and decided to try Boxwood Kitchen for Saturday night dinner. I made a reservation through OpenTable which is so easy and convenient. The food at Boxwood was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was great, but what impressed us even more was the staff. They were super attentive, friendly yet professional, and seemed to work together like a well-oiled machine. Sometimes when you eat at a busy, popular restaurant it's not easy to get things like a prompt water refill, or you may have to wait 10 minutes for a cocktail. Not so at Boxwood. We live in Southwestern Oregon and it takes 4 hours to drive to Bend, but we'd almost drive that far and spend one night just to eat there again! There were many things on the menu that we still want to try.
Great new spot in Bend! Food was excellent. We started with the dinner rolls and meatball appetizers. The dinner rolls were warm and delicious. The meatballs over the creamy polenta were perfect. We tried 3 different entries, Chile Verde braised beef, gnocchi and the bolognese and all shared. Each was unique and tasty! Great flavors. We’ll be back soon!
Easily the best restaurant in the Old Mill! Great food!
I had my father in from out of town and we were excited to take him to a new restaurant. I had heard a few positive reviews from friends recently and we booked our reservation. I was excited to try the Monk Fish which both friends had raved about and saw it on the menu online via Open Table. The menu that evening did not offer the dish, it had been replaced by a steelhead option. I looked online today and the menu appears current.
Having grilled steelhead at home the night before I tried the Chicken Schnitzel. The chicken preparation lacked much creativity and unfortunately was over done and quite dry. The smoked pepper & tomato sauce helped save the chicken but really it was the richness of the spatzle to saved the dish. Each component of the dish did not stand alone.
My father had the baby back ribs which an oddly long sized and he even asked if I thought they were beef ribs. I asked if they were good but he said he expecting a more traditional preparation ie: fall off the bone.
My wife had the Braised Beef. She enjoyed the polenta and said the corn succotash really made the dish.
My kids (19 yr old twins) shard the Korean Chicken Bits and each had a Spatzle app ... both were great.
We shared two desserts. The Beignet and the Cheesecake. The Beignet was a bid under fried and came out very dense and egg yolk flavored. The Cheesecake was fairly pedestrian and just ok.
We did start with the Brussel Sprouts. The table all agreed it was the highlight of the dinner ... a bit of a strange highlight but none the less it was.
Hope you appreciate some constructive thoughts. The space is beautiful and our server was very nice and extremely attentive ... we will give another chance in a few months but if the experience is the same it will be our last visit.
Walking distance of the Springhill Suites. Small menu but everything we had was tasty and showed quality ingredients. Dishes seemed priced right except for the steak - quantity was fine but the quality of the beef wasn't on par with the price. Bread rolls are a MUST! Really. And if you need a break from the breweries, the bar made good cocktails. For those of you who like jalapeno in your cocktail to add a little spice - be warned that their version put put my mouth on fire! I was saved by an equally good, but not so hot, alternative cocktail. Indoor ambiance is a bit industrial, for a romantic evening the small patio might be preferred. Overall, a very enjoyable evening out! Recommend.
A delightful eatery! Innovative food prepared with great care, supported with attentive and caring service. Our favorite restaurant.
We had a great experience at Boxwood Kitchen. The server went out of her way to exceed expectations, all five of us loved our entrees and the dinner rolls with fondue were amazing!
Chile verde braised beef and gnocchi with chicken were incredible. Service was great, getting drinks was a touch slow, but not bad. It was quite noisy on that busy night. Overall, we loved it for our anniversary dinner.
Boxwood was excellent. Look forward to coming back again when back in town. We came with a group of 12 and our server was amazing, super helpful and the food was delicious. Loved it!
So delicious! From the brussel sprouts to the entrees, yummy all the way. The meatballs with the polenta, to die for!
Highly recommend the Boxwood Kitchen. Start with the rolls and fondue which were delicious. The kale salad was slightly limp, but the main courses exceptional. Handmade pasta, steak and schnitzel were all fantastic. Good cocktails too.
Overall this is a very good place for comfort food. Among the four of us, we enjoyed the Braissed Beef, Baby Back Ribs, Spatzle Mac 'N' Cheese and the Brussel Sprouts may be the best in town. But the Steak Frites (hanger steak) was kind of tough. While the service was excellent, I felt the prices were a little on the high side and the limited menu selections a little on the heavy side. I plan to try them again for lunch or brunch. But I'd like to see them have more lighter and less expensive options on the main menu during the summer before coming back for dinner. I'd go back for the Mac 'N' Cheese in the fall.
Special dinner for my bday with nothing special done.
Im sorry that no one did anything special for you:( We do our best, but were human... Always helpful if someone your with mentions it to the staff. Hope you had a nice time otherwise. Happy belated Birthday!
Although the food, once we got it, was pretty good for me (my companion did not think her steak was cooked as requested), the kitchen seemed to be in disarray. We were there for about a half an hour in which NOTHING came out of the kitchen. For a majority of the restaurant, which filled up as we sat and waited for our food, no one had food on their table. I have had better luck in the past at this restaurant, hopefully the glitch is temporary and they will get it back together.
We had a very rough night, Dishwasher didn't show up and I (chef and owner) had to fill in. This was hard on the kitchen and that combined with the Lyle Lovette show being postponed brought a wave of people all at once and it was challenging. A restaurant is on display for everyone to see and judge, and were not always perfect but we try very hard. Im sorry you were disappointed. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Great food, easygoing atmosphere. Prices were much higher for entrees than what I anticipated and or thought would have been reasonable. My group ended up splitting shared plates because of it. Other than meal prices, everything about the visit was good. Our food tasted great and service was fantastic.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner very much. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The food was delicious and the service perfect. I never felt felt rushed, our server let us set the pace for the meal. The only concern was the noise level, which like most restaurants in this town, was quite loud. I felt like we added to that level because we had to talk louder to conduct a conversation. I definitely would return, but maybe sit outside where it would be quieter.
We were out and about for a bachelorette party and received amazing service! The food was delicious, and the free bottle of bubbly was much appreciated. We would definitely come back
We love Boxwood Kitchen!
We took my in-laws there for dinner and they were both pleasantly surprised. Previously, they had seen reviews saying it was loud and didn't feature cloth tablecloths, so they had sort of discounted it. After this experience, I am sure they'll be back, and we'll continue to bring family and friends there too :)
Food was terrible and expensive!!! Never going back...
