We will miss you! Thank you all for many great meals and times out. You guys have been our go to for business lunches, to take visitors, show nights and just drop Ins when we needed a bite and some drinks. The food never disappointed, cocktails/wine/beer always on point for quality and selection and you had the best staff. Pretty bummed out to be honest.

Short rib bread pudding special was terrific

We went pre-theatre and had no problem finishing dinner with plenty of time to spare. We split a little gem salad, which was chilled and delicious. We also both had different varieties of gumbo and it really hit the spot! Be aware that the last service at Boxing Room is brunch on 7/02/17. Thereafter, it is transitioning to Barcino, with a Catalan slant instead of Cajun/Creole.

Worst ever

The menu was not very creative and we wound up getting hamburgers because there was nothing else appealing on the menu. We had an 8 PM performance which our server knew. We waited a long time and when our order finally came it was incorrect and we had to wait even longer for the order to be corrected. We've enjoyed Boxing Room in the past but I doubt we would want to take a change again.

Boxing Room has been one of our favorite restaurants in the Civic Center/Hayes Valley areas. However, it will soon close and reopen with a different name and cuisine. According to our server when we went there on June 17, 2007 it will become a Spanish restaurant.

I used to love this place, but now the food has gone way downhill lately. The sole stuffed with crawfish was hard as a rock on the outside. The fish was way overcooked and the filling had a ton of lemon zest in it that was not listed on the menu (one of my allergies, btw). It tasted like it came straight out of the freezer and went into the microwave.

The vegetable plate was much better, though I suspect that the artichoke hearts were pre-frozen, too. And the peas were mushy. It's pea season, folks. Couldn't they be fresh?

The ice cream was wonderful, especially the bourbon and ginger flavors. Come here for cocktails and dessert, not dinner!

The waiter was very nice and helpful, and he paced us well so we could get to the opera on time.

We have had brunch and dinner at Boxing Room several times over the last two years. Dinner this Tuesday was very disappointing. The menu seems to get less and less varied -- brunch has more interesting options than dinner -- and the prices are high for the quality and quantity of the various courses. The service was rushed. We did have a theater event but were there in plenty of time. Like most American restaurants they rush to remove your plate before all diners have finished, annoying in the extreme. I might still recommend the restaurant for pre-theater but won't return myself for a while.

Disappointed. Our waiter seemed miserable, so not the best way to start a meal.

Food was good, but not as good as I remember the first time I was there.
Too bad though they are closing, as it has taken a very long time to get
the Reservations I wanted at 6 PM, but was lucky this time, again, probably
because they are closing!

Wait Staff was really Fantastic, they knew the Menu, and were able to explain it,
and the delivery of food to our table was very fast. They were probably the most
Efficient Staff I have encountered in any restaurant, and I eat out a lot!

One of few Cajun restaurants in the city and one of the best. Unfortunately, I understand Boxing Room is closing. I'm sorry to hear it, because the food is very good. This is a great spot and right around the corner from Davy's Symphony Hall - it has become my go-to for before-show dining. I hope they retain their excellent staff and keep the ambiance and look-and-feel as is. I look forward to trying the cuisine of the next iteration.

The food at the Boxing Rook is uniformly good and tasty; however the menu is small and doesn't change often enough. One visit tends to be the same as the last. This is definiely not the place for those seeking new tastes.

Food was not up to the expectations from this reliable restaurant. Then I found out that the chef had relocated and the restaurant would be closing in a month.
Duck was overcooked and dry. Subtracting from a great dish I have enjoyed here before.
Still I will miss this spot.

Food quality has declined. Our meals were ery salty and shrimp over-cooked.

Duck is delicious. Vegetarian meal was very disappointing and over priced.

Happy hour oysters and drinks - hard to beat. Catfish po'boy and fried chicken were excellent as usual.

We are a Cajun family and find Boxing Room authentic Louisiana cuisine. Good money value in the theatre/Civic Center area. Very convient for Davies/Opera House/jazz center. Fun New Orleans cocktails.

Fogo de Chao is a different but very entertaining experience. The harvest table with myriad veggies, olives, cheeses and charcuterie was a wonderful start and great on-going accompaniments to the many meats. The waiters rove around to each table, delivering Linguisa sausage, bacon wrapped chicken, pork and various cuts of beef - all tender and cut to the desired level of rare to done. My only criticism was that when I took a cut from the closest to the outside of the skewer, it was a bit over-salty. Otherwise it was a very interesting taste variety.

Wonderful food! The crawfish cakes & beignets were fabulous! The brioche French toast was magically light & fluffy.
Service was attentive & pleasant w/o being intrusive.
We didn't imbibe @ brunch, but they seem to pride themselves on their cocktails

Lucky to have caught it on a quiet Sunday night.
The baked oyster appetizer is to die for.
Good flavors in all the dishes we had.
I lived in New Orleans, and their gumbo lives up to N.O. standards.
And we picked up a new cocktail, Arnaud's Special (we asked for bourbon rather than Scotch) and liked it so much that the next day we bought the ingredients and made our own the next night!

Food and ambience were ok but service was only fair. To add insult to injury, I left my phone on the table and went to a concert at the Jazz Center. After the concert we returned to retrieve the phone and were informed it was not found. The staff did not go out of their way to look for it, hence my rating for service.

Everything about Boxing Room is wonderful. Too bad it's closing. This is one of our fave restaurants in the Bay Area. We will miss it!!! 😭😭😭

Fabulous food, cocktails and wine. Highly recommended.

Food was good. Server was abrupt and not very helpful. Not very friendly. He suggested the fried chicken. It was a little greasy. Moist, but crust was heavy. Not light fried. Gumbo and rice and beans were very good. Drinks were excellent. Sand which excellent. Had to ask for ice with bubble water. Meh on the server.

Food was good though missing some Cajun things I hoped for. Many (maybe too many) fried options. The shooter was tasty. Sides were good

The food was amazing; from the fried alligator to my Jambalaya. Service was great too! Our waitress was pleasant and very attentive to our table. She had a great support staff to help, as it was busy.

We ate here before attending a concert at SFJazz. My wife had the pork chop, I had the duck confit. Very good. Good cocktails also. This was our second time, we'll be bacl.

We used to really love Boxing Room. This time the cocktails were pretty terrible, the service was timed strangely (our entrees came out about 5 minutes after our appetizer), and the food was a mixed bag - my duck confit was delicious, my date's fried chicken was mediocre. Won't be going back soon.

We have been coming to Boxing Room many times as part of our season tickets for the symphony. Always good. However this time we brought 4 additional family members for Monday's performance by Neal De Grass Tyson at 7:30 PM. Our reservation was for 6 PM with everyone on time. Service was quite slow and the dishes came out irregularly. The place was full as usual but the service seem overwhelmed not just by our large group but the place being full with everyone wanting to get served and get to the performance only a block away. The pork rinds were under seasoned which I mentioned to our server who just shrugged it off. The fried chicken was great as usual but the order for the corn muffins didn't come out with the meal. Again when mentioned to the server, she just shrugged and said we are busy. Suggest you hire more competent servers and more of them for events like these.

Great fast service because we were going to a show. Oysters were delicious.

We had a delicious meal. The oysters great. Everything was yummy not too spicy. We loved the beignets for dessert.

Loved the appetizers but wish we had just stuck with that. We got the burger and really did not like it. It was overly doctored with seasoning and the meat was oddly textured.

The food was top-notch. Really tasty. The atmosphere was lively and cozy, as the restaurant does not have a gigantic floor plan. Good selection of local craft beers.

Ok food but they don't use crawdads,ordered 2small entrees, both said crawdads but they were chicken...drink prices were outrageous and skimpy...2 one ounce shots of Greygoose vodka, $24. Service was good, noise is high...wouldn't go back because of the drink.

Overall the food and the service we're really good.

Food was very good and pretty authentic NOLA as I just spent one week earlier in New Orleans. Best Beignet second to Cafe du Monde IMHO. Etouffee was tasty but just had one small ice cream scoop of rice for $17. I guess the restaurant wants you to order a side of rice. This would definitely not happen in NOLA.

The only real negative was that the server was lacking in service. It was not a busy night and he kept on chatting and not making eye contact/paying enough attention to customers needs. Management contributed to this also. Seemed like he didn't want to spend time talking about the dishes. Our water was never refilled and waiter never came to ask if I wanted a coffee refill. No smiles all around from any of the staff but it could be a reflection of a slow night (the oyster bar was completely empty of patrons) and anticipated diminished tip overall for the evening. I guess I expected too much for spending $50+ per person. I might do takeout next time as the food was pretty good though.

As advertised, New Orleans / Cajun / Creole menu.
Food was really good. Group of 5 tried a variety of dishes. Everyone's was great.
Service was really bad. Nice enough people working there. But they kept us waiting for drinks for a LONG time. Drinks were on bar for about 10 before someone got up and asked our waiter if it was OK for us to pick them up ourselves.
They forgot or were late with 2 of our sides.
I'll eat there again. Just not when I need to be anywhere after dinner or with anyone who might not be cool with slow and disorganized service.
