Boxcar Social - Harbourfront
This space is easily our most ambitious, with inside capacity of more than two hundred and a patio that seems to feed endlessly into Lake Ontario.
Bringing high-quality coffee, a full food menu, and craft alcohol to a reimagined waterfront is a challenge we couldn’t wait to take on.
The reward was immediate upon opening: a coffee on the boardwalk in the summer, or chasing a skate on the outdoor rink with a glass of wine are experiences unique to our small plot of real estate.
We’re so excited to be a part of the reinvigoration of Toronto's waterfront.

Very relaxed and chill place by the water that cater to all; whether you want coffee or drinks. The staff is amazing and makes the experience that much better. Staff does their best to accommodate any requests and is very knowledgeable about their drinks menu.
I went to Boxcar for my birthday celebration and each guest raves about how nice the place is. It is a hidden gem on Harbourfront and one of my fav places.
Special shout out to Sydney and Robin for their top notch customer w
My summer salad was absolutely disgusting. Please don’t serve old spinach and two strawberries and call that a salad and have the audacity to charge nearly $15.
The hostess service was abysmal. The manager and waitress were somewhat attentive but generally the staff here is too cool to be bothered with the patrons. Too much attitude and attention paid socializing with other staff. Great location and decent food ruined by poor service.
Celebrating a birthday and they were not busy. Good came before drinks & cocktails. Several of the food orders were wrong. Very disappointing as it is a great location and ambiance.
This place is a fabulous place to go to sit outside and enjoy the view of the harbour front. Our food was pretty good. Burgers were tasty and salads were good but definitely not the best. The grilled chicken was over cooked our waitress seemed a bit frazzled. While she started out being very friendly but seemed less so as the lunch continued. I started looking around and I think she may have been the only one working. The bar staff must have been overwhelmed as well because drinks service was really slow. Overall though we would go back and I definitely think it’s the best place to eat on the waterfront.
Poor service and added 20%gratuity. Menu was made smaller because of Canada day we had to leave to go to another restaurant to get food.
Great experience overall! Would recommend to introduce a desert menu , currently missing and is a disadvantage for bday parties ..Awesome otherwise, great view over the lake . Thanks!
Location is amazing. Gorgeous view.
Due to poor weather we ate inside.
Because the inside is one large room with no soft furniture to buffer sounds, it’s extremely noisy if busy.
Disappointed that the menu provided was not the same as what was shown on Open Table and had even less choices. It’s very limited.
That being said, the food was good.
Was also disappointed that the charcuterie board was placed on the table and no explanation was given to what was on it. Generally my experience is, explain what meats, cheeses and accompaniments you are showcasing.
Service was quick and friendly but nothing spectacular.
Minimal menu, just good to have a beer before heading out for dinner somewhere else. No brunch menu on weekend, lots of families with little kids (in case you are looking for something romantic). Good views of the lake
Friends and I booked a table for 3 on the day of the Warriors-Raptors game 6 figuring downtown would be nuts. We booked for 4:30pm. My friends and I started heading over to Boxcar Social around 4:40pm from the office and figuring we'd be late I tried calling Boxcar Social to let them know. Keyword is "trying." When you call the number for the Queens Quay restaurant that's shown on Google it goes to their head office and when requesting the restaurant I was met with voicemail. Anyways, we got there at 4:46pm, 16 minutes later than expected. Mind you, 1 minute later than how long the restaurant holds reservations for. Once we got there the hostess, without a smile or warm welcome, took my name down, looked at her tablet and said, "Just so you know we only hold reservations for 15 minutes," in a tone so cold I'm amazed her lips weren't frostbitten. We were 1 minute past that limit and I legit tried calling to notify the restaurant. She was absolutely frigid from the start. What else was funny is that there was almost nobody seated - they had more than enough space. There was some sort of event happening to the side but there was MORE than enough space to be seated, with or without reservations. Not sure if the hostess was in a bad mood or she's really punctual or something but it pretty much ruined my perception of the restaurant. Your hostess is the first point of contact with customers. They set the tone for the rest of the stay there. So you'd expect someone pleasant or at least personable.
It's really unfortunate since everyone else working there was splendid, food was great and the atmosphere is vibing. That hostess though needs to check herself because her negative energy has lost Boxcar Social a customer.
I rarely review things. I love boxcar’s location and ambiance. But the servers are the worst. They made a mistake with the bill and needed to give us some money back. They basically threw the change to the table with an attitude. I was the one organized this and I felt horrible.
Good location, nice view. They had run out of calamari, but perhaps it was too close to the dinner time menu being released.
They were not doing brunch at brunch time on a Saturday
Great place to go before Jays game!
Bad bad bad service.
Great for a group as the seating is communal.
