   Food was great as well as the service - Aaron was our server. Decor and ambience were classy. Music was nice and not too loud. Had salad, melted cheese, prawns 🍤 ( one was under cooked), fish, steak, mushroom schnitzel ( fabulous), chicken, desserts were delicious. I hope I can return on my next visit to Missoula!

   The setting inside this restaurant is beautiful. It does seem as though the service and the food have taken a bit of a step down recently. The beet arugula salad was pile high with arugula and a couple of thin slices of beat on the bottom with very little dressing - also side note it could have use a pistachio or a bit of crunch. The French onion soup had good flavor but was so top heavy with cheese that it was difficult to dive into the soup, which was very thick and almost no liquid to the consistency. The Steak and pan frites were just OK. We requested medium rare and it was a bit on the medium side and not very warm. Flavor was just ok. We have been in many times and loved the wait staff. This team did not seem to be as in synch and the friendliness level was not as genuine. We will still give another chance and see if it was just an off night.

   I love the Boxcar Bistro. All the food was great. I order the Sole Grenobloise and it was delicious, but the portion of fish was tiny for the cost. We had a very pleasant time.

   I have been eating escargo for 50 years and that was the second worst I’ve had. It had no flavor. It was completely bland. The toast was good. The beet salad was OK. Very thin sliced beets and not much of them. But the lettuce, possibly the arugula, was very tart. It was helped out by the grapefruit, but not enough. However the Wygu beef cheeks were fabulous! Just about the most tender beef I’ve ever eaten. The parsnip purée pairing was delicious and the vegetables were tasty and done nicely. The wines the server suggested we’re spot on. They both complemented what I was eating and they were generous pours. This was my first visit to the Boxcar Bistro. I had heard it was really good so of course I wanted to try it. I will give them a second chance but this would not be my place to go and spend $100 on dinner at this point.

    Perfect spot for a quiet celebratory dinner. Great wine list, and house wines are well chosen and delicious. Good food; ample choices for most appetites. Wait staff treated us like royalty. Highly recommend.

    Underwhelmed…our first trip To Missoula this restaurant came highly recommended. Everyone mentioned make sure you get the bread pudding. Well, that was no longer on the menu. Ordered Escargot, and it literally arrived 3 minutes later, first red flag. They had cold sliced seeded rye bread served alongside it…not crusty hot bread. Meh…we both ordered the osso buco…again felt “microwaved” definitely not freshly prepared…but adequate. Service seemed arrogant.

    For incredible food, attentive service, and unique, elegant yet comfortable atmosphere, this is one of our restaurants of choice in Missoula. Whether a dinner with friends or a romantic night out with your date, Boxcar hits the mark and then some. It's what a dinner out should be and is worth your time and money. You won't be disappointed!

    First time here. Cool location. Our server Ava was very attentive and friendly. We were wishing there was some bread served before the meal. The portions aren’t large but were perfect for us. The beignet was so yummy!!

    My husband and I were so excited to eat here for our Valentine's Date as we have always been very impressed and have been recommending this place to our friends because it's always been soo good! Service was off. Reservation at 7:30 and we finally got our wine at 8:10 and the menu has changed. Maybe staff was a little off due to separate Valentines menu, but we won't be back for a while:(

    Everything was exceptional except the artichoke salad that we ordered. We personally did not like it. Everything else was amazing. It was our first time there and we will be back.

    Very disappointed in my experience at Boxcar Bistro. The food was undercooked, and my prawns has a weird chemical taste. The portions were small, and the service was very slow. We spent $130 (including tip) and it was absolutely not worth it. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Surely a simple conversation with management, or an email directly to us, could have been more productive. Also, in the instance your experience is awful enough to potentially damage our businesses reputation, we would hope the matter would be brought to our attention while you're still present in the restaurant. The disappointment is mutual.

    My wife and I were both disappointed that our different entrées (gnocchi and duck confit) were modest portions served on heaping piles of great Northern beans. That seems like an underwhelming value for $25 and $31, respectively. I also suggest that the staff, one seating people in a restaurant that’s not half full, offer better seating around the edges of the restaurant, rather than always in the middle of the floor or by the door. This is the third time they’ve done that to us and I had requested a side table on open table when I made the reservation …

You failed to mention showing up minutes before your initial reservation asking if we could move it back an hour in the midst of a Friday night rush, which we graciously accommodated. You failed to mention that you WERE given a table in the corner, away from traffic areas. You failed to mention the unpleasant scene caused by your party, the $0 tip left for our staff, and the general discomfort caused to other diners. The feeling is mutual.

    Took almost an 1:15-1:20 for our meal to arrive. Table of four. Another table arrived about 20 minutes after us and they seemed to get all the attention. The chef greeting the table, bottles of wine and small plates were brought out all as we sat waiting. Our server was more attentive to that table as it was preferred over all others. Especially with multiple trips from the kitchen by the chef. Our food was barely hot, my filet was decent and cooked as ordered. The cheeks arrived on the cooler side or warm. Other meals were okay. The over all experience with our server and the temperature of our food left me disappointed. Especially at a $400 dinner bill. Dinner reservation was at 7:30 and was greeted by a female hostess who was super gracious. That and the couple next to us was the best part of our experience.

    I was somewhat disappointed in the gnocchi dish. It was all around not up to your standards either in taste or appearance. I also expected to be asked why I did not eat it. The wine was wonderful and I always enjoy the atmosphere.

    They were out of two entrees on a Saturday evening so the entree selection was limited and fairly basic. It was also much louder in there than I remember it. Partly due to the music and partly due to a large, drunk table of folks behind us. Our server was fantastic, however.

    Great food, reasonably priced and good service. It is a small restaurant so you can't be afraid to be at close proximity from your fellow diners. Reservations are recommended if you don't want to be cramped sitting at the bar.

    Lovely ambiance, absolutely stellar service, with knowledgeable staff. Enjoyed the escargot and the raclette to start, the former of which was served with lots of garlic (which was delightful) and the latter was melted over a jammy reduction, which added a nice balance to the aromatics of the cheese. For mains, we had steak frites and the double-cut porkchop. The steak was prepared properly, but the cut was somewhat gristly, moreso than I would expect for a NY Strip at this quality of establishment. The pork chop was good, but was lukewarm, and the puree which accompanied it was cooler still, while the root vegetables it was served over needed to cook a bit longer, as they were still fairly raw (being root vegetables, this is not a mission critical problem, but they were hard enough that when cutting them, they would rocket about the plate a bit). Flavor was quite good on the dish overall. The dessert course was delightful, some of the best beignets I've had. The foie honey was rich and delectable, and the pot de creme had us licking the spoon and eeking the last morsel from the cup.

    We had the best NYE dinner! The preset menu was special and so fun. We adored our server whose incredible personality added to the overall experience. The entire staff was knowledgeable, and happy to share their expertise on on wine and recommend pairings. We’ve eaten at Boxcar several times, each time has been a treat. Highly recommend.
