The food was mediocre, and the service was slow (though it was not the servers fault, they were clearly understaffed). I got New York steak that was just OK. My wife ordered salmon, and in addition to being pretty tiny it was also raw (as were the potatoes that came with it). She returned it and ordered the Buratta Ensalada, and it was essentially a bug chunk of cheese with very little veggies. Overall, not impressed, and also too pricey (especially taking into account the quality)
We have gone to this restaurant many times and the last three times we have been here have been less than stellar, although they did try to make it right.
One of the disappointing dinners took 45 minutes to get a steak and burger after our appitizers...
This time “happy hour” is only at the bar not a your dinner seat, also we ordered two different steaks and we both got the same one. The steak was delicious and they offered us dessert.
I just think they fall a little short on being an amazing restaurant.
Beef is incomparable. It is amazing. The last time I was there, and on the menu online, oysters and beef marrow are listed but they no longer offer either one. Service a little off, bartender was also a server. Wine late, almost after starters. All small stuff, beef is what’s for dinner, and it is worth the trip
The waitress forgot to put in our drink order and also forgot what we ordered for dinner. Then came back out and told us we had been given the wrong menu and they didn’t actually have what we had ordered. This was all after we had already been there for 30 minutes. $15 for. “Butter lettuce” salad which was actually made of a lot of tasteless iceberg lettuce and very little else. When I asked about the lettuce she went back to the kitchen and came back saying the package says butter lettuce. Since when does butter lettuce even come in a package? The kabocha risotto had no visible squash. I was told there was a squash purée which was tasteless so if there was any at all in it , it was overpowered by the chili pepper flakes. The restaurant was so loud we could barely have a conversation. We were told the owner was entertaining his friends – he never looked our way that we are aware of or came over to our table to apologize for the noise or the food or the errors. As a chef for many years myself, I would have been embarrassed to serve this food to my guests. Our waitress was very sweet and apologetic And the bartender comped the drinks, but this did not make up for the Long delay and poor quality of the food.
I go out to eat quite a bit and would consider myself fairly forgiving of many less-than-stellar experiences, but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had on a variety of fronts. It seemed like the staff would have rather had an empty restaurant then enable us to eat there effectively. Rude staff, incredibly slow service, just OK food. And they were hardly busy. I guess if you're right next to a BART station and there is a mandatory 20% gratuity added, this is what you get.
We got a groupon for this restaurant. We reserved a table on Open Table, and it turned out they had overbooked, so we had to sit at the bar. They seemed to be understaffed (or something) -- the bar tender was really stressed out and yelling across the restaurant the whole time. The food was delicious, but it was a fairly hectic environment. They had a big party, and I wish they had just said, "We want to let you know that we have a big party, so things will be a bit slow tonight" and then taken their time. Instead the bar tender was super stressed out and being somewhat rude to everyone. Not a great experience.
We came with a group of six people one of them a child of five. The food here is first rate, although there is no menu for children and not a lot of options for kids on the grownup menu either. For our starter we shared the Burrata salad with a balsamic glaze and beets, very delicious, the Masami pork belly very rich and unctuous and the fried Brussels sprouts also delicious. For our main, three of us got the Bourbon burger and fries, all cooked to specs and the other two adults got the Filet which they loved and said was perfectly seasoned. My favorite part was the Heifeweisen it was so light and citrusy with a little bit of fizz. Overall would highly recommend.
Bourbon and Beef, a real disappointment. I called the restaurant before the reservation to find out if they had air conditioning. I called 3 times over several days and never received a call back. I reserved a tall table but those didn't exist any more. They should update their Open Table listing. The tables were so sticky that pieces of paper napkins from the previous evening were stuck to the table. I brought n out of town guest to brunch and there was no functional coffee machine of any kind. I ordered shrimp and grits. The shrimp were frozen and when cooked they were tough as nails. My friend received a lukewarm egg dish with tasteless potatoes, which he didn't eat. I finally received a call from the restaurant after I had dined there and told the caller about everything that had happened. She didn't offer me anything other than an apology. Given how expensive this restaurant is, they should do a much better job. But they failed in all regards and I will never go back.
The menu on the OpenTable website is not the same as the restaurants which was a disappointment. OT and restaurant need to better coordinate. Service was good when it happened but there was only one server for the whole restaurant and left a lot to be desired. Finally had to get up and go to the bar to get a drink myself because the tonic in the vodka and tonic was flat. Then I had asked for over ice and it was served straight up. Some serious defects all around. Then we got the wrong bill that was $130 over what it should have been. They've been opened long enough to not have these basic problems.
Good food, but service is consistently terrible. Nice people, but the food takes FOREVER to come out. And few visits back to keep water, beverages or bread flowing. Been a few times thinking it’s a fluke, but nope. Same every time.
Went for brunch and reserved a standard table because I hurt my back and can't sit at the high tops or bar. However, they gave my table to a walk in, so we had to wait 30 minutes. The waiter was nice enough to offer us a free round of drinks for the mix-up. We all wanted Bloody Mary's, but they were "out of them". The gimlet and the morning margarita was good, but wasn't really what we were looking for. My friend wanted the Chicken and waffles, "they were out of them" again! We decided to go for mimosas at the table, but was told "they were almost out of champagne"......
They were also out of what I was going to order, so I got the huevos rancheros which was great, as was the pork belly. I'll definitely go back one more time, and see if it was just one bad day. The food was truly excellent as was our server.
Great, attentive service and a cool atmosphere. An awesome cocktail menu and a great menu. My main issue is that the steak I ordered medium-rare was delivered medium well. The ahi tuna was overlooked as well. When we alerted the wait staff (but didn't have time to send back due to having an event to attend), he didn't seem to acknowledge the mistake appropriately. Other than that, it was a fun experience.
This is my second visit to Bourbon and Beef. I really wanted like it. What's good: the food from appetizers to the steaks were excellent. What's not good, the bourbon cocktails. While there was an excellent selection of Bourbons, the bartenders did not have the proper ingredients to make a good Manhattan. Low-end sweet vermouth, Angostura and orange bitters only.
At least the cherries we're Luxardo!
To call yourself Bourbon and Beef you have to do more than have an excellent selection of bourbon and serve good Beef. You have to make top flight bourbon cocktails. The bartenders don't have a chance unless management gets them the ingredients they should have. The good news: it's an easy fix. Thebad news: probably won't happen.
A great spot for excellent food, drinks, and service. I don't eat red meat, and was actually surprised to see that Bourbon and Beef bills itself as a steakhouse! I guess I think of different ambiance when I think "steakhouse"... My husband, however, definitely agrees that they are a house that excels at making steak, so... I guess it's something for everyone!
I made a reservation on Open Table for 12:15pm. The restaurants website said it was open from 10am-3pm for brunch, but the restaurant was closed when we arrived and of course their was no one to answer the phone to assist us! It was a big party of 8 and luckily a restaurant nearby was able to accommodate us, but we were all surprised and disappointed when we arrived expecting to indulge at Bourbon & Beef. No note on the door saying they would be opening late that day and clearly websites were not updated for this change either. Do not waste your Sunday morning trying to get brunch here because they are not open despite being able to make a reservation and the website stating otherwise.
Bourbon and Beef is a delightful small restaurant with decadent and delicious food. We tried the beef tartare, pork belly, one of the steaks, asparagus, and bread pudding. Everything was amazing. The only downside is I wish they had mentioned that the bread pudding had chocolate chips in it. Neither my date or I are fans of chocolate. Besides that everything was amazing. I would definitely return.
My wife and I like this restaurant and typically eat there twice a month. The first thing we noticed on this visit were smaller portion sizes. The burrata cheese appetizer was smaller and their burger is significantly smaller with the price still $22. The filet my wife ordered was $35 and comes with a choice of sauces. The waiter forgot to ask her which sauce she would like and the kitchen picked one she did not like. The previous time eating there the waitress forgot her potato order and her meal was just the steak.
Food coming out of the kitchen on the Wednesday night we booked our reservation was a disaster. Our waiter did his best but with just a few people in the restaurant we finally received our meals almost and hour after we had our appetizer. Again, both our waiter and the bartender could not have been nicer but I'm not sure if we will be back.
