Boundary Ratings and Reviews
I was impressed with Boundary's atmosphere, food, and service. Our waitress helped us decide what things to order for each course, what to pair things with, and was all around fun to chat with. The food was delicious! We plan to come back for brunch soon and have already agreed that this will be a monthly date night for us.
My husband and I went here for the first time on New Years Eve, and loved it! We just moved back to St. Louis (originally from the area) a year ago from Chicago, where we were constantly trying new restaurants, and as we left Boundary my husband said this was the best meal he's had in St. Louis! The ambiance was exciting and lively (granted it was New Years Eve), great decor, and the food we had was delicious. We decided to go with a few apps to share, and we had the raw bar sampler, the mussels frites, and the poutine. If mussels are on the menu, I usually order them so I've had them at many places and these were my favorite! The broth was delicious and there was a lot of bacon in it - can't beat that! The raw bar was good, but was rather small - 4 small oysters, two shrimp, and a small bowl of tuna poke. The tuna poke was very good though - it left us wanting more. We also had he carrot cake for dessert and it was amazing! Very moist and it was large enough for two to share for sure. The cocktails we had were very tasty, but very small and pricey. The service was probably the only thing I would say could have been better, but it was very, very busy so we understood. Overall we really enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be going back!!
My husband and I had NYE dinner and were blown away. The atmosphere is awesome-very cozy fireplace and beautiful vaulted ceilings. For dinner we had the poutine which was very tasty. All parts of the dish were seasoned well and had a little kick to it. For our main course we had the filet mignon and lobster tail. It was a special that came with mashed potatoes. Absolutely incredible. The filet was cooked perfectly, delicious and tender-buttery even. The lobster tail fell apart on your fork and was melt in your mouth good. Even something as simple as mashed potatoes were superb. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and friendly, he had excellent recommendations for the menu. We would definitely go back. If you’re looking for a fancy place for dinner we would definitely recommend it!
We had a day without kids and wanted to go out for exceptional food and drinks and linger. I wanted to sit by a fireplace and be cozy... as soon as I saw the picture of their huge fireplace and cocktail menu online we made the reservation. Absolutely loved it. The food was wonderful, drinks were heavenly and I was warm and cozy right by the fire. We had a great evening. Our waiter, George, was really nice and attentive. We’ll be back. Great spot for a special occasion.
We dined during the brunch lunch hour. First they could not find our Open Table reservations, then they sat us in a back room that felt like a banquet room. The Beignets were cold caked with powered sugar. My husband and I both ordered the Tartiflette. There were no roasted potatoes in the dish, only very large chunks of sausages. This was served with an egg on top which was overcooked, not to my order specification. At the point we finally received our food and we were tired of waiting, I chose not to send my food back. Our guests ordered hamburgers and said they were fine, but they were our guests with our choice of restaurant, so I don't believe they would have spoken up. We were disappointed with Boundary, and will probably not return which makes us sad because the Cheshire has always been a special place to us.
We went to Boundary for my husband’s birthday. When we arrived (we had a reservation) we were told that due to a large party there weren’t regular tables available. We were seated at a table that was very low with a couch and a chair that were higher than the table. Both my husband and I are tall so it was very awkward. Service was slow (the people next to us complained 3 times), and when we finally got our wine, the bottle was ice cold ($70 bottle of red). The waiter told us he thought it was weird, but offered no alternatives. The party was extremely loud with crying babies - definitely NOT the atmosphere we were going for. After tracking down an alternate waiter for silverware so we could eat, enough damage was done. Not to mention, not One mention of his birthday (which was included on the reservation). Total disappointment!
The remodeled Cheshire Cat, now Boundry, is excellent. The cocktails were fantastic and the food was quite good. We liked the oyster apps and the plentiful salads. Out of the dinner plates, the salmon special was the best. When we told our waiter that we have symphony tickets, he quickened the pace of service and made sure we had our food out on time.
Dined here on Thanksgiving with my wife and two kids. We enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant, cozy and comfortably-lit. Started with waters and planned on ordering after-dinner cocktails, but decided against it when the server dropped the bill off soon after we began eating. The buffet offered most of the traditional holiday fare, as well as shrimp cocktail and oyster bar, and a carving station with a perfectly cooked beef strip loin. In addition to the beef, my compliments go to the sweet potato casserole, the butternut squash soup and the pecan pie. There was only white meat turkey at the carving station during my visit and it was very dried out. Couldn’t find turkey gravy(only beef gravy)but maybe it was around. The dinner rolls were, unfortunately, hard as (Plymouth) rocks. Overall, rated 2/5 because it was average at best. We did not feel like we received an experience to justify $55/person. Would suggest upgrading the carving station to Prime Rib, and updating some of the buffet items to more closely reflect Boundary website’s declaration of “modern interpretations of comforting classics”.
The second year we’ve enjoyed Thangiving at Boundary but this year they made it a buffet style meal and the food was great, it was better for the wait staff and a tremedous value. The ambiance was comfortable and almost like a meal at home. I gauge this a great place and a future Thanksgiving tradition. I’m sure it’s great anytime as well and a good place to entertain family or guests.
We went for our anniversary. The atmosphere was good. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. I appreciated how well he answered our questions. We were however, disappointed with the main course. Our salad was excellent. The manager Dave was very gracious and gave us dessert on the house for the occasion. I am not sure if we would return for the food though.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience on our dinner date here. Our server, Nadiia. was the best. Our food was amazing; specifically, the oysters were top notch. It’s hard to find restaurants in the Midwest who serve raw oysters properly with the appropriate garnishes. Our cocktails were perfect. Appreciated the variety of gin cocktails on the menu. I ordered Bark at the Moon and was pleasantly surprised by the mix of flavor profiles. I loved the restaurant’s ambiance, very trendy and cozy. Almost passed on dessert but Nadiia brought us out a little popcorn ice cream. Holy moly. That was good. However ... First impressions are so important. And the hostess was a bit curt in her welcome. As a former hostess AND server in the restaurant industry, I never want to feel like I’m an inconvenience. I should be greeted with words, not with silence and harsh eyes. Felt like I was supposed to ask how I could help her. That said, it was all uphill from there. We will be back. And I hope Nadiia is our server again.
Reunion lunch of 1954 High School classmates. Large party in the main dining area - vey noisy. Moved to another table and when the bar area filled, very difficult to hear.
Suggestion: when ordering draft beer, it would be nice to be able to taste a small sample.
We used to love Boundary when it was the Restaurant. Now that Boundary has taken over we have been there three times the service has been slow our food came out
Luke warm. Which isn't a good temperature for soup or scallops. The noise level was unbearable. We were in the back by the kitchen by a large party. When your dinner guest have to yell to he heard across the table it makes for an extremely unpleasant dining experience. The appetizers were delicious unfortunately the entres were not. We didn't complain about the soup or the scallops because we had already waited so long for the food and as I said the noise level was awful.
We won't be returning to
Boundary for dinner
Boundary is a little of a hidden gem and while I am selfish and would love to keep the secret I have to let folks know that this a a restaurant you shouldn't pass on. Located in same space as the Cheshire Inn and above Basso sits Boundary. It's a cool, laid-back, modern restaurant with great ambience. The menu is well thought through with solid selections for entrees. If there is one area I would step up a little would be the Bar program. None of the specialty drink jumped out to me as something interesting enough to try. However that is such a small quibble with such good food and outstanding service. Check out Boundary and ask for Nadia. :-)
I chose this restaurant due to the fact neither of us had dined here. Now this was a Monday evening, so the place was pretty quiet. The bartender was very accommodating and the menu was simple. I wouldn't say the food was enjoyable to eat. I feel later in the week or on the weekend it would be a vibrant place.
Use to be an amazing place 3 years ago. We were back in town, dinner was awful and service was lacking. They were having a bar training on a Friday night 6pm. We were 1 of 2 tables on a Friday night. We never saw our server after he took our order. Huge disappointment and we ended up going to Bread Company in our suits before heading to the Symphony.
