Boulud Sud Ratings and Reviews
I was a bit disappointed when I walked in the door because it is not as fancy as I expected it to be. The photos make it look much more elegant. But, that being said, the food was amazing and the service was top notch, everything that you would expect from a restaurant of Daniel Boulud once I got over the restaurant look.
I had such a great experience with this restaurant. Took my little sister for her birthday. I've mentioned that it was a birthday occasion but didn't expect they will send us a beautiful plate of ice cream with happy birthday script. What a service. Usually, they write scripts on dessert you ordered. Food was phenomenal, service was superb, overall it was quite satisfying service and experience. We ordered octopus for an appetizer, please order that, it's so worth it ever bite. For the main course, we've got seabass and lamb shank, the species they use is just so amazing, and last but not least we got grapefruit givre (?) for dessert. yummy!! I so recommend this place to anyone who's looking into this restaurant, just go. =) Almost forgot, our waitress, oh my god, is she good. I believe her name is Marie. She's so delightful.
Nice ambience, excellent food. We ordered the mushrooms with eggs and then a fish. Really delicious. The Sicilian wine was simply excellent. Our waiter was professional and friendly. I will definitely repeat the experience. A highly recommendable restaurant.
Absolutely amazing!! The baba ghanoush was so good. My husband and I went here for brunch on a whim. Very small and quaint restaurant. Everything tasted fresh and the service was spectacular. Would definitely go again and have already recommended it to 3 co-workers!
This is a very good restaurant with a few serious problems. The first is that if the restaurant is crowded, as it was the second time we were there, you may be seated at a table near the front next to the bar, in which case you'll be right next to the hubbub at the entrance (which is generally mishandled since there is not enough room to accommodate the people coming in) and, in the winter, right in the path of a chilly wind that blows in from the door. The second major problem is that the restroom is down a long, steep flight of stairs, so if you are elderly or handicapped, you may find access difficult. The third problem (less major) is that you need to be fairly muscular to open the heavy front door. But the food is good, and though expensive, reasonably priced for the quality. And once you are seated, the service is good, and (if you're not unlucky enough to be seated in the front by the bar) the ambiance is also good.
Good as usual for upscale lunch with friends. Lively but quiet enough to chat with friends. Really good food and a chance to taste some different ingredients. Portions are just the right amount...generous but not huge. The service was impeccable. Helpful staff but also friendly.
The food was interesting in concept albeit a bit timid in execution. For a Mediterranean restaurant the flavors were a bit on the bland side. We had the pre theatre prix fixe menu and except for the grapefruit dessert, nothing was memorable. Service was adequately attentive but I found the line of wait staff standing by the open kitchen a bit like an army waiting to be deployed.
Had to have the prix fixe and went for the Daurade with pistachio hummus and quinoa. The fish was fine. Pistachio hummus was muddy and tasteless, quinoa was ok. Grapefruit givre was the highlight of the meal. Not worth the hype, but not a bad place for pre-opera dinner.
This was my second time dining here, just as good and still a delight. The first was with my daughter after shopping at Columbus Circle. The second was after the birth of her twins at Mt. Sinai down the street! My husband and I celebrated with the special appetizer: gnocchi with fresh white truffle shaved at table. We shared the branzino baked in salt and brussel sprouts. A crisp Sancerre from their exceptional cellar and we were perfectly content. The sommelier apologized that there was a delay bringing wine, the first bottle was corked. It happens. Saved us the awkwardness of wondering if we should send it back. Our waitstaff was charming and attentive. Reliably great place!
Boulud Sud is a wonderful restaurant. Food and service are always spot on. Dinner on this evening started with two small plates - OCTOPUS À LA PLANCHA and SICILIAN SARDINE ESCABÈCHE - both fantastic, then the White Truffle Gnocchi (WT shaved at the table!). It was all perfection! Patrick was a delight (as always), very attentive without being annoying. John selected a delightful wine to pair with dinner. If you haven't been to BS, go! If I lived in NYC I would go every week!
Had stopped in for lunch during Restaurant week.
Knew I had to return for dinner.
I came back for a pre-theater prix fixe meal. Great selection offered on this menu, absolutely fabulous meal, great service (without being over done), and terrific ambiance.
Will be back on Thanksgiving!
Pleasant. Decent food. We had the chicken tagine and the lamb, both tasty. It's a comfortable restaurant, which is a big plus. Given how few options there are on the UWS, we'll be back. Wish there were more menu options. Bar Boulud next door has a more varied menu but is much less comfortable.
I was surprised by how delicious my meal was. I’ve always loved Mediterranean food, but this was truly exceptional! I had the braised lamb shank, which I would highly recommend!! The wine suggestions were on point and this is definitely a place I will visit again and again!!
Boulud Sud serves a mandatory prix fixe menu pre-theater that's $63 per person for the basics with many pricey extras. The dishes are hit or miss, beautifully plated but often dry (the bass had no sauce and needed lemon badly) but the Wagyu beef (at an additional cost of $12) was outstanding. Appetizers were great. Desserts are skimpy. And they serve the smallest martinis in NYC in baby sized glasses! It's definitely not for the faint of wallet!!!!
Food was very good but service was slower than we would have liked. Waiter was helpful with our menu selections.
Don’t like the prix fix menu. There should be at least one other option. Not everyone wants dessert!
The space looks great, but the noise level is way too high. Difficult to have a conversation — and there were only 3 of us.
