Last minute reservation on a holiday weekend Sunday, the host squeezed us into comfortable seats, and the party began. Service is attentive from the get-go, but never intrusive. As a former fine-dining server I enjoy watching the service flow throughout the room. At no time was a single server/runner/manager/busser standing still. Or, when they were standing still they were scanning the room, not speaking to one another, discussing last night's personal adventures (a pet peeve). The pacing of courses was perfect, wine and cocktails were perfect, and the food was outstanding! From the fresh-baked artisanal bread to the hummus and eggplant app, to salads, duck and lamb flatbread, outstanding layering of flavors, acid, salt, umami, texture, and plate appeal. Perfect. We ended with grappa and began the next morning with leftover lamb flatbread at 8 AM in our hotel room. Can't wait to return in April!

Outstanding place. My father and son had dinner, and were extra happy by the whole experience. My father loves cocktails with gin and he had the most incredible attention by staff on what gin is the best and so on. He was so happy and that means a world to me.

It is our favorite restaurant in the City. Thank you for great service. We will be back and always recommend.

Pleasant Sunday brunch. 4 of us gathered for my wife birthday. Other couple live nearby so this was a choice of convenience rather than great food. We have been there before evening performances at Lincoln Center and place is much more relaxed at 1 PM on a Sunday. pleasantly surprised and as Manhattan goes these days, prices were fair.

Last time I ate at this restaurant was close to 5 years ago and that was next door at the Epiceriè, which was and probably still is tolerable. As far as the more formal Restaurant Boulud Sud goes, stay away and avoid at all costs. They advertise MP whole fish, which is the furtherest thing from the truth. It is a pre-cut frozen fillet, practically tastless with evidence of freezer burn all over the fish. The spagetti bottarga is lacking the bottarga and substituted with brocolli rabe with chili peppers and a generous dose of butter (WTF?). The only thing they got right was the tap water and a couple glasses of white wine. If you want to eat at a Daniel Boulud restaurant, go to the real thing over on 65th and Park Ave. Boulud Sud is yet another example of David piggy backing his name, creating a nice ambience with overly friendly staff, while they successfully pull-off serving and feeding you far below average food, that I bet any of you can beat fair and square cooking at home. Restaurant Boulud Sud would do a great service to the Lincoln Center, Upper West Side neighborhood if they packed it up and hit the road. You have been warned - Buyer beware!

We have been to many of Daniel's restaurants over the years, Boulud Sud is one of his best. This is a very creative menu but widely varied for all levels of adventure. It was a truly fine experience.

We were four friends getting together before the opera. The food was excellent, including great options for one of us who is vegetarian. The menu was prix fixe at that hour, and the choices were many. Two of us had the risotto with black truffles (healthy supplement, but a very healthy addition of black truffle). Fish and tagine were the other main courses tried. It was just delicious, a special treat. We had a variety of first courses, including the outstanding mezze plate, as well as the beet salad. My nonvegetarian friends, good foodies, thought the food was excellent. Desserts are delightful. Like the other courses, the portion size is "just right"--plenty, but not excessive--especially important right before a three-hour opera! It's also a beautiful restaurant, with tables well spaced--not so common in New York. A+.

The wait staff and management went out of their way to make this a special occasion. We all look forward to another visit.

Spot on as usual. This is the perfect option before the opera every single time. I've never been disappointed. A special "shout out" to the sommelier, I remember him from Scarpetta, and can only say he is a TRUE professional. Bravo Boulud Sud!

We have now eaten twice at this restaurant. Both times one of us ordered a beef dish. Both times the beef had a sinew or gristle running through it that rendered it uneatable. How can I now justify ever going back? Shame, because overall the food was otherwise well-prepared.

Just one thing was off . . .
The service was exemplary, as usual; the wine was spectacular (and a terrific bargain, suggested by the sommelier); and two of the three courses we ordered were just fine. But what a terrible mistake the deep-fried Delicata squash was! This lovely vegetable, as its name implies, is indeed delicate, and it is best served just roasted or otherwise cooked in a way that lets its flavor show. But for some inexplicable reason it was deep-fried as if it was a portion-controlled onion ring, and we were hard-pressed to taste the squash through the coating. Too bad to waste a lovely vegetable this way! And what a surprise, since that was my first disappointment after many visits.

A truly delightful experience from the moment we arrived until we left 3 hours later. Service was attentive, cheerful, and elegantly performed, with no pretense. The porcini soup was delicious and the lamb shank scrumptious. The sommelier was extremely helpful in finding a nice bottle from the excellent wine list. I would highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

This used to be a Lincoln Center area restaurant with reliably good food. No longer. Of three items in a required prix fixe meal before a Lincoln Center performance, not one was better than mediocre. I don't object to prix fixe under the pressure cooker of getting people out to their venues by 8PM, but, to quote Woody Allen, the food is terrible and the portions are small. All three of us were disappointed in our meals. How can you make a lemon pasta tasteless?? The coup de grace came with a bill including a $7 charge for water. We had been asked if we wanted sparkling or still at the beginning, and assumed "still" meant tap water, especially since it came in an unmarked refillable glass bottle, filled no doubt with New York's city's finest tap, so we were astonished to be charged for something we were tricked into ordering. Eat elsewhere, even if it's a longer walk to your venue.
