Pre-theater menu was delicious as always. Highlights were the wagyu beef--worth the supplement--and the desserts. The wine sommelier was great. Service was a bit rougher than previous visits; the place was packed, perhaps unexpectedly. A great choice near Lincoln center.
Pre-theatre menu was excellent. Fun cocktails. Nice atmosphere. What we ordered arrived perfectly prepared. The staff is the most important detail of an excellent pre-theatre meal. We were not disappointed by this team of professionals. We never felt pressured or rushed at any time during our meal. Friendly and
accommodating. Just steps from Lincoln Center.
A nice blend of white-tablecloth service and semi-casual vibe. Menu choices are a bit limited, but all on point. Good wine list as well.
The food is superb, and the service—after an unfortunate beginner my due to the crush of pretheater—provided skilled and professional. Try the smoked trout if it’s a special. The fluke crisp was also delicious. All in all, a great meal!
Super Mediterranean food in a cosy place. Perfect for special occasions.
Absolutely delicious brunch. The layering of flavors was fantastic. The service was very professional although sometimes forgetful.
Amazing food and great ambiance
The food was fresh, creative, and delicious. We had the sea bass and chicken tagine for our main courses and the flavors were interesting and well-developed. The octopus and beet appetizers were the best part of the meal. The octopus a la plancha was slightly charred, but not overcooked; it was tender and flavorful. The beet dish was great with toasted quinoa and avocado labneh and a rich, yogurt-based spread on the bottom. Our waiter and his team provided excellent service. The sommelier left a lot to be desired. Though she ultimately steered us well in terms of wine selections, she didn't seem to know the menu (she described the wonderful and complex beet dish as chopped beets tossed with a dressing and served with crackers) and had no interest in helping us coordinate our wine selections with our food, instead pushing us to order wine before we'd decided on our food.
Boulud Sud is reliably delightful. Service runs like a clock. Food is delicious. The noise level can get pretty "energetic", but the experience is still warmly festive.
The inner restaurant is crowded and the lounge area is adjacent to that and the bar. It is really a small space that they have gone out of their way to make appear larger and fit in as many tables as possible. Even though the rule is- in the dining room from 5-7 one can only order prix fixe- the service was so slow (although the wait staff was constantly rushing everywhere) that we almost missed our curtain. The food quality varied- the fillet of sole was excellent- lamb and short ribs (small portion)okay. Shrimp appetizer, and octopus nothing special. The onion soup a bit thick and gloppy. For the price, there are much better options in the area.
Outstanding food and service
This was my first time at Boloud Sud, after having gone to other Boloud restaurants many times.
I had potato soup (delicious), the daurade (which was beautifully prepared, but a bit too strong of a taste for me), Patatas Bravas (very good, but not very crispy), and a fabulous dessert that involved mangos and cardamom.
It's a lovely restaurant, and I will go back.
The food & service were excellent! We will be back on our next trip in to the Opera, from Pennsylvania.
ESTELLEC
Delicious sea bass
This was a two hour dinner prior to the opera, the food service and Ambience really was a pathway to a wonderful evening at the opera.
The wait staff was wonderful our host was excellent the price fix was delicious with a great value. There new cocktail menu was inventive, main course were lamb chops and fish, both done well.
Would definitely go again.
I wish I could remember the waiters name because he was amazing!! Guided us to the best food choices!! Truly a great experience!
Always delightful to eat here. The service is always attentive and the food is delicious.
Appetizers and desserts are best. The vegetable-filled pasta main course was a little mushy. At these prices that is no acceptable.
Excellent service! Food was awesome too.
Boulud Sud is fortunate in its location. It is a mystery why so few restaurants are in this neighborhood given its proximity to Lincoln Center. To make a curtain there, the pre-fixe only offering at Boulud Sud is okay but nothing memorable. In fact, I had to check our receipt to remember what I ate. We won't return for a while.
Great service. Excellent meal!
everything was lovely except the attempt by some wait staff to rush us along even though we had made clear to our main server that we did not have to meet a performance deadline. It seemed our main server was great, but others seemed intent on moving us along, even when it had to be apparent we were not finished with a course. Overall, however, food was spectacular and our main server was excellent.
Very good for pre-theater or Opera. Prix fixe menu varied enough for group.
Everything was delicious! We were all happy, and I had left a message on opentable for a birthday piece of cake.. I never had to mention it to the waiter.. just appeared after the meal
A wonderful dinner, as always. Because of an early curtain, we were there when only the $65 prix-fixed menu was offered. The person who called to confirm the reservation was almost apologetic about it, but it was not a problem! A reasonable price for 3 courses with various options to choose from. Appetizer and main course were delicious, and we finished with a wonderful vacherin with mango that had us purring with delight!
We were in NYC for my son's voice coaching and an opera night. I decided to go to Boulud Sud. It was a great idea. everything was great and the staff was incredibly efficient. The sommelier guided us with a great Italian white wine which paired perfectly with our meals.
It was a Magnifique experience.
We will be back.
I always look forward to Octopus Ala Plancha. Last time we ate there, they had a special treat of Hava Rocher (?) it was delicious 😊
Always excellent food (creative) and service!
Dinner was amazing. The garlic pepper shrimp was yummy and octopus plancha was charred perfectly and the accompanying sauce took it to new heights! The chicken tagine was moist and flavorful and the Louisiana crawfish with homemade pappardelle with pea and mint sauce tasted like Louisiana in springtime. And the desserts knocked our socks off! The deconstructed rhubarb tart was tangy and sweet and crunchy and foamy and the mango gelato was so tropical it took you back to the islands! With perfect service and great drinks to round off the meal this was an experience to remember.
Great food and outstanding service. Edgar was a great waiter.
We love the restaurants. The food is very creative and a bit different from the ordinary.
Disappointing. To be fair we did not realize brunch menu is so different from regular menu. One of us ordered scrambled eggs w salmon. True our choice but t was very pedestrian. As far as atmosphere - I sm afraid there was none.Minimalistic to the point of dull The service was the best part. Will not return.
The best dining experience I've had in Manhattan. The wine list is incredible and the house Negroni is fantastic.
This is not the first time we have eaten at Boulud Sud. The menu is for a somewhat experimental palate with a Mediterranean taste. The food has always been fine and ample and the service is excellent. The staff answers question about the dishes and the ingredients and, often, will arrange for substitutions. Must have reservations and the costs is rather high. We use it for special occasions.
For a $65 Prix Fixe this place was long on fanfare and surprisingly low on flavor.
I had a nice plate of hummus and baba ganouj, but our server might have warned us when we ordered some flatbread that we'd also be getting a chickpea spread. Great olive oil, by the way. My husband got a nice potato leek soup, but not my idea of ethnic. My main dish was a sea bass on couscous. The fish was tasty enough, but the herbal topping was all on the skin and I don't like eating the skin. The couscous was pretty bland, and the side fruit/greens salad was an odd and not very successful partner for the fish. Dessert was actually lovely, some ricotta-based ribbon with chocolate mousse puffs and minuscule dots of citrus. Geographically appropriate? For the Upper West Side, I guess.
We were asked repeatedly how we were enjoying our meal. Pestering is more like it. Do they really need to check up on me 6 times?
This is a high-rent area, but I was truly hoping for a more authentic Middle Eastern flavor. I got a high-end flavor. The decor is pleasant but devoid of any ethnic touches. I'd rather take my chances on a backstreet dive than come back here.
Food was terrific, as usual. Service was disjointed.
Great food and service, nice plates, good wine, everything is perfect. For French people, it is the same level as a very gold restaurant in France, with a better service!
My son and I love coming here before opera. The waiters are very efficient in getting us out in time and the food is always amazing.
This is my second visit to Boulud Sud. I have dined at all of Chef Boulud's restaurants in NYC at least once, three on multiple occasions. Although all are very different, Boulud Sud is my favorite of the group. The service is impeccable but not intrusive. The cocktails are simply amazing. The menu is inventive and the flavor profiles are bold. We enjoyed a pre-theater meal but did not feel that there was any drop off in the quality of food or service. The Dover sole and Wagyu beef entrees were wonderful. The cardamom yogurt dessert was devoured in seconds by many simultaneous spoons. Although pricey even for a prix-fixe menu with cocktails, I would still give five stars for value. We will be back many times.
The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The meal was expensive but worth it. My only criticism is the ambiance, the lighting was too dim and the place seemed a bit dreary. Would definitely go back!
