The food is good with a French twist on Mediterranean food. The service, however, when we were having lunch was very poor. We had to get up to try to find our waiter twice.
having to flag down your server each time you need something ? this is not great service. we expect the staff to pay attention to us to make sure our experience from beginning to end is worthwhile.
My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The service was spectacular and the food was delicious, as always.
Excellent meal and service in a beautiful restaurant where you can actually hear yourself speak! Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner and desserts!
We've been many times, and have never been disappointed. The "mediterranean menu" was great--we probably could have made more specific course requests, but we were happy to be surprised. The sommelier did a good job pairing wines by the glass. A great choice when going to Lincoln Center.
The food was terrific. The staff treated us especially well. My wife was in a wheelchair, and they were very attentive and helpful. It's pretty expensive, but quality costs.
Originally I had a reservation for two, but our group grew to 5 plus a baby for a birthday lunch. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us. Lovely quiet elegant setting with attentive service. Always wonderful food.
Went on the Saturday night before the power went out to the Upper west side. Got the last meal out of the kitchen before lost power.
Food is delicious, but the sizes of the plates of food and drinks were quite small for the money being paid. After an appetizer (Hamachi/watermelon) and main dinner (Dorade Fish Dish) i wasn't really full. The excellent manhatten drink was also on the small size
My wife had the Dover Sole which was delicious and much bigger, but over $60 dollars for a plate of fish to not have a vegtable or starch was really mindboggling.
Wish we could of had desert, but after power was out for 30 mins, they emptied the restaraunt
Excellent Attentive Service
The value wasn't there. None of the food was a wow, or particularly interesting. Had to send back a salad with brown lettuce. The pastries on the other hand were delightful.
Amazing service and sublime food! My go to restaurant!
Nothing really special from appetizer to dessert. Good wine list. Only that... Lobster risotto with no taste (and few lobster pieces, very poor). Even the sparkling water was hot!
Outstanding on every level. Wine selection,
servers most considerate and forthcoming;
Beef wagu, done to perfection. Soups de poisson straight from Provence. Generous desserts made evening a pleasure.
Great experience always.
A truly special restaurant and dining experience...thank you to the wonderful staff (servers, chefs, wine specialist, etc.) for making the evening so spectacular.
Amazing food. Great taste But the best was the by the Glass Wine
My wife and I returned to Boulud Sud for a 'Paella for 2' Sunday evening meal. The food was marvelous!! The service was very professional and incredibly attentive. Our experience was a pleasure from beginning to end. We highly recommend Boulud Sud!!
Had a fabulous brunch at Boulud Sud! This is a fine dining experience with absolutely outstanding service. This is probably the best and most professional service I have experienced at a restaurant in quite some time. The waiter was attentive to every need and went above and beyond to accommodate preferences. Treat yourself to the eggs Benedict with peeky-toe crab. This is not an inexpensive place, so you may want to save it for a special occasion, but the price is justified by the food quality and the excellent service.
I had not been back in a couple of years - so was glad to see the place still maintains an excellent menu, great staff, very helpful and attentive. Enjoyed the meal immensely.
This was our first time here and we were not disappointed. Food, service and ambiance were all
superb. I would highly recommend. It was suggested to go to Boulud Sud many times, but the opportunity never arose. I am happy we were finally able to enjoy this outstanding restaurant.
Everything was perfect, will be back soon!
Very nice post matinee early dinner at Boulud Sud. Overall the staff seemed a little young and inexperienced including the reception hostesses, the bartenders and the waitstaff. We arrived half an hour early for a 6PM reservation which seemed to confuse the hostess. However, the manager came over to help her and get us seated. Lovely atmosphere - chic but not stuffy. Waiter was excellent and thoughtful and there was lots of attention and high level of service as a variety of servers brought bread, water, drinks, etc...... Menu was varied and interesting. For apps we shared a salmon tartare special and burrata - both very good. And for mains a fish dish and the lobster risotto - also both very good. Desserts were solid as well and the waiter unexpectedly had a celebratory message written in chocolate for us which was thoughtful and ended things on a high note. Only negative for me was a really bad gin & tonic (hard to screw that up). It was clearly not the gin i ordered and the tonic was flat. Bad! I should have sent it back but I'm just not that guy. And it did not deter from a lovely dinner!
This was a birthday dinner which I hosted for myself and I especially appreciated the kindness and efficiency of the staff. They made the food and wine and surroundings even better. The sommelier produced an aged rose that was both delicious and excellent with 4 different main courses.
I'm on the deaf side and the acoustics here are better than most.
Excellent meal with attentive service. Table captain was especially sharp. Enjoyed many dishes from restaurant’s classic menu and one new one. It was very enjoyable early dinner. Bravo!!
Solid food, but not surprising except for my cocktail.
Sunday brunch is a wonderful experience. The price fixe menu has many options for those who want brunch food and those who want more of a lunch option. The carrot gazpacho was unusual and delicious as was the Greek salad. For the main course each of us had fish. The roasted salmon was well cooked. I asked for rare and that’s the way it was served. I would want some additional dessert choices I.e. something cakey. The custard dessert My friend chose was tasty and rich enough to share with others. An unusual combination of flavors. Comfortable, relaxing, delicious meal.
Great food, great service and great ambiance! We went to Boulud Sud for brunch and it did not disappoint!
Every dish we ordered was perfect and just right. Servers were very attentive and made us feel special even though we were a big group.
I would come back to Boulud again!
A truly grim experience. This restaurant is a classic example of an "institution" becoming completely complacent and riding on its longtime reputation hoping no one catches on to how drab, dated, and truly passionless the food is. Stay away. I am totally baffled by these other reviews.
First, the room looks like a first class passenger lounge in an airport in 1984. It borders on kitschy, but it's just really dated and silly. The service is mixed but mostly bad. There are tons of different people coming up to the table, fussing over napkins and pouring drinks, but this only results in confusion. After placing a drink order, someone comes by and asks if we'd like another. I'm a vegan who ate dairy because a different waiter brought the dishes than the one from whom I ordered. It took 15 minutes to get a straw. Our waiter was extremely nice and made up for the disaster that ensued. I mean it - he was great.
The food: gimmicky, 80s stodge. Silly presentation that look's like abstract art (also from the 80s). Even the plates were goofy looking. The hummus was dreadful, some sort of thin, flavorless paste. My greek salad - tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, and lettuce (hard to screw up) was good. My boyfriend took one bite of his expensive wagyu steak and couldn't get through it. It was tough, chewy, and terrible. My vegan entree, a phallic, greasy, unappetizing whole eggplant was just crap. The waiter was extremely apologetic and took both our entrees off the bill plus sent a vegan dessert on the house which - strangely- was delicious. No appearance from the manager, though we saw him and the waiter having a real spat over the situation. The waiter then confided in us that others had complained about the wagyu that night, that they'd gotten a "bad cut."
Skip this tourist trap. Really. Don't go.
Always a joy to dine here. Lunch and weekend brunch are excellent value. Service is friendly
and accommodating. Dishes are unique. An excellent choice for the Lincoln Center area.
Your food is too good to eat in the dark! The plating was beautiful and wasted in that dark room. We had to use a flashlight to read the menu. This is not acceptable, french people like to see what they eat. I will not return unless the lighting improves.
We received very good service at the beginning when it was not busy. Then it was reasonably good when it got busy. The food was excellent, and the presentation was beautiful. (I had the octopus salad, the sea bass, and the grapefruit sorbet from the prefix menu.). It was a wonderful dinner, and the restaurant did not rush us to leave after we finished our dessert.
Probably one of the finest meals I've ever had. Good vegetarian options as well
Pricey but worth it. I'll be back.
We were outside so consider that accordingly. The food was very good, but not as good as the other Boulud restaurants we've been to. That being said, the Baba ganoush was some of the best we've ever had. The wait staff were good, but not as good as some of his other restaurants. It was excellent overall, but we've just been spoiled.
The food was good but not fantastic by any measure. The sea bass was just ok. By far not the best one I ever had. The octopus salad was good. Carrot gaspaccio soup was very good. Hummus platter was average. Very nice place but we were expecting a bit more delicious flavors. There are other good places in the neighborhood. Wouldn’t come back on my own unless invited for an occasion by someone else.
Excellent dinner. My small complaint is the lighting. It’s too low to the extent that it creates eye strain instead of ambience.
as always good food, great timing and superior service. Also when so inclined a great wine list
The watier’s Service was wonderful. We were traveling from out of town and were initially given a table right in front of the kitchen door when others were available. I asked for another table and we were immediately shown a table in a much nicer location in the restaurant.
Both the sommelier and the waiter were excellent in their recommendations and explanations. The food was the better Boloud selections and execution was perfect. I have to give it a five star. We had dinners at two other Boloud restaurants within 2 weeks and they were all up to standard and more. Well done.
