Had an extremely good meal and fantastic experience at Boulud Sud on a Friday evening in early December. Started with cocktails (specifically, two Manhattans) at the bar which were well-made by very capable and hospitable bartenders - when (not if) I go back, I would recommend sitting at the bar if alone or with a friend/partner given the social layout. Later sat at a table and was fortunate to have received exceptional drink service (by Erin) and food service (by James). The Wagyu beef, side of carrots and salmon tartare were all more than satisfactory, but my favorite item was the Buckwheat Rigatoni pasta offering with shaved black truffle on top. It was savory and rich, creating the perfect comfort food for a winter night. James was also kind (and smart) to put it on separate plates for my friend and I without being prompted. I recommend for someone who values a well-rounded dining 'experience' that features a combination of quality food and ingredients, world-class service and a vibrant (but not too loud) ambiance; that is what executive chef Brian Arruda and manager Marcellin Fal have built for customers at Boulud Sud. I expect to become a regular at this restaurant. Make sure to save some room for dessert!

relaxed sophistication with delicious mediterranean food and exquisite service. for the wonderful lunch, i recommend selecting the sardinian lemon bottarga pasta! (little quibble, the house bottled sparkling water is not actually on the house, just fyi).

The restaurant was very crowded and tables were close together. It was noisy for a restaurant which is supposed to be elegant dining. What really annoyed me was that the server spoke such poor English I was unable to communicate sufficiently to understand a complicated menu and take proper care of my important special guests. The food was good but not as good as we expected, considering the reputation and price. Would not return.

We ate here on a Tuesday night in December. We had reservations, which I think got us seated in a quieter part of the restaurant. Otherwise, it can be noisy. We had the sea bass in parchment paper and the lobster risotto. Both delicious, but the sea bass was better. We will come back here.

We were having an Opera weekend. This restaurant has a prix fixe menu designed for theatre goers; however, there is quite a range of food options. The food is fresh, clean to the palate, absolutely delicious, and portions are substantial. Food is served hot (when it should be) and is beautifully plated. Waitstaff are on point! The furnishings and decor are well appointed. An altogether perfect experience.

Even though I requested a table further from kitchen for a business dinner and I arrived one hour early just to make sure; we were seated right by the kitchen! Manager confirmed that we wouldn’t be next to kitchen but window back corner of the restaurant! Such a disappointment!

Boulud Sud is a wonderful place to meet and catch up with an old friend. Extensive, good choices for a fine meal. A bit pricey for some items, but excellent in many respects. We loved the sardines escabeche, the octopus impeccable, the courage and fresh and melting in my mouth. What a lovely brunch. Funny, at Boulud, I did not expect a waiter to not know how to answer when I asked do you serve dark roast? Instead I was asked a 2 or 3 times if I wanted regular or decaf. That was unexpected.

Our second dining experience at Boulud Sud in 10 days. Both times we had amazing dinner. Not only was food terrific, the wait staff were friendly polite attentive and NO attitude!

We had the paella dinner that is available on Sundays only. It was a great value. Most importantly, the paella, drinks and dessert were delicious. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We are glad that Boulud Sud, a gem of a restaurant, is in our neighborhood.

Delicious food, unpretentious yet competent service in a modernist setting that feels like a classy living room. Our party of four had fish, beef soup, crudo and salad - all were excellent, but the signature grapefruit dessert is not to be missed - it's one of the best endings to a meal I've ever had. The portions were just right and at $65 for a 3 course prix-fixe, very reasonably priced.

The price fixe pre-theater has grown skimpier, with many supplement charges and no amuse.
Tables near the kitchen have bus station ambiance and waiters kept knocking into my chair with no apology. Value has really fallen off here.

If you want a reliable experience before going to Lincoln Center, then I would highly recommend Boulud Sud. But if you are looking for a more refined dining experience, I cannot recommend the restaurant. It is very hectic and loud (even after the theater crowd left) and we didn't have service commensurate with the quality of the food, which was excellent. I don't know why, but I always leave Boulud Sud a touch disappointed and feeling somewhat frazzled.

The three-course pre-fixe pre-theater menu is required to eat in the dining room from 6:00 - 8:00 Monday through Friday, which suggests that almost everyone dining is there to eat a meal before heading to a show at Lincoln Center across the street.

We had a reservation at 6:15 and the restaurant was only able to deliver us two of our courses within 80 minutes. At about 7:40 we were told that the kitchen was backed up (?) and that we could either wait for our final course (and miss our show), or to come after the show for our sorbet, some three-and-a-half hours later, at 11:30. If everyone is ordering three courses, and there are a set number of seats, I'm not sure how the kitchen could get backed up the way it did. Seems "unprofessional."

Of course the server did not offer to adjust our bill for only two courses so we could just conclude our transaction; they offered us two lousy options with no time to think about it and so we had to come back if we didn't want to miss the show we bought tickets for six months in advance. So here we are, having paid for three courses and only gotten two, needing to leave.

Of course, they didn't give us a voucher or anything so they'd know who we were when we returned, which made watching our show very stressful, wondering if we were going to have to go through hoops to explain the situation. When we arrived, explaining what happened and then giving the hostess our name three times made me think we were about to get some sort of runaround, but thankfully, after waiting a while as she looked into the matter, she sat us. Another server apologized about the insanity of all of this but it was too little too late. An offer of a free cup of coffee could've restored some amount of good will, but of course not, why would they? Why make things better?

This was a very unpleasant and stressful experience. Why force people to buy three courses if you cannot deliver?

Anne, Barbara and I shared twp apps: sardines and a linguini and seppi dish, both excellent. Anne and I both had the sea bass in papiote. We shared a sorbet dessert and a bottle of White Burgundy Thibert. Delicious
