The service was initially very slow- almost 10 minutes before a waiter appeared! After that, it improved greatly. Food is delicious but “main course” size pasta is a joke- more like a modest appetizer. For $35 you deserve much more. Overall a convenient and attractive, but somewhat overpriced, alternative for dining near Lincoln Center.
Host seated my wife and me and other couple who were our guests at separate tables. Luckily, I spotted them after five minutes. Took a long time to get a cocktail, even longer to get a beer. Not good. Ambience is bland. Food is good. I would not go there again.
The food was wonderful-especially the dessert-grapefruit sorbet topped with halvah. We had opera tickets and everything was very timely. The only complaint was an extra charge for the sole. On the menu, you chose 3 items for $65-the sole was one of those items. When our bill came, there was an extra charge of $25 for the sole. The waiter said there was an extra surcharge for the sole-even though it was clearly listed as part of the $65 special. As I stated-the food was delicious and I did not want to argue and possibly miss the opera.
great before the opera. very convenient location. food was kind of bland but i'm sure it's just because of the neighborhood. overall would recommend if you're going to see the opera afterwards.
It is always a pleasure to come back to NYC and to eat at Boulud Sud. I have taken many guests there over the years and everyone is always very impressed with the restaurant. I am especially grateful that there are delicious options for vegans so I never feel that I just went to a high-end restaurant and ate 'basic' vegan food.
Service was excellent, timed perfectly, food was great
I always think this is a wonderful place, but I was a bit put off by the rather aggressive sales pitch for the truffles... Also, a third of the items on the price fixe menu involved up charges which then created limited choices for the main course. The food was delicious.
The room is lovely and the noise level is blessedly low.
We have been coming to Boulud Sud for the past 6-7 years and have always found it to be reliably great every time, so much so that we wouldn't think of dining anywhere else before an opera, play or ballet across the street, for a get together with friends in the area, or a celebration if we wanted to be sure the food would be good. But I'm sad to say that we've been disappointed in the quality & execution of the food in the last year. The first time we figured was a fluke, the second time we began to wonder, and this third time we are concerned that there might be something amiss. It may be that we are not the only ones to notice as there were quite a few open tables in the dining room, something we had never seen in the years we've been coming. Hoping things will turn around so that we can count once more on the excellent food we had grown accustomed to. Note the service was perfect and the ambiance, as always, wonderful.
We had a table in the back, where it’s quiet. The food and service were excellent.
Great if money is not an issue. Youthful ambience for such a fancy place; wonderful food.
We had the pre theater prix fixe. Really good shrimp with garlic and saffron lemon pasta, excellent fish, amazing grapefruit dessert, and they got us to the Met on time.
Surprisingly lax service made a nice lunch less enjoyable.
Unfortunately, Boulud Sud is not as good as it used to be..The service is horrible, it is very loud and for the price range you can find a better place to eat at in NYC.
The Gambas are fantastic, the sea bass lovely, octupus is great, but the chicken tagine was rather dry. The Grapefruit Givre has to be the most amazing dessert we've ever had.
Everything about our dinner was top notch except for the waiter who was dour, inattentive and bored to be there.
Over priced. The Moroccan Tagine had very little to do with it's name other than the presentation.
This was the perfect pre-theater dinner. The food was delicious. I will go there again when I have a performance at Lincoln Center.
Service was very rushed.
They obviously wanted to turn the table.
Food was acceptable but not special.
We go to Boulud Sud every time we visit NYC. Food is outstanding, but what really earns a rave as well is the service. The wait staff are terrific-- they always recommend just the right wines for what was ordered, always are willing to answer questions, but they don't hover or keep asking if everything is all right.
I had a really nice work lunch there on a weekday a few weeks ago, and thought I'd take my mother and a friend there for Sunday lunch before a matinee at the Met. It was kind of a disaster, frankly - I won't go back. They didn't have a table for us at our reservation time. There didn't seem to be a clear server assigned to our table, and service was spotty (they brought the wrong side for me, and never checked in to make sure everything was OK - it must have been 10 minutes before I could catch a server's eye to ask for the error to be corrected). And maybe worst of all we were seated near the open kitchen where a cook was just BELLOWING the orders - it was really depressing. The food is delicious, it's a great location and a pretty place, but - no....
We were greeted right away and seated although we were early for the reservation. The service was aware that we had a performance to attend. All staff were attentive and questions about the menu were answered with detail. We ordered appys and brunch with all selections being outstanding. Of concern was a long wait time before the main course was served. This caused us to request coffee and the check simultaneously. We did not order desert due to time constraints.
It was a preopera event which included the celebration of three b’days.
This was the best dining experience I've had in recent memory. At multiple points we were asked whether we had a show to attend (we did), and we were treated accordingly. The food was astounding (the sea bass was perfect, and the octopus appetizer was what dreams are made of), and the sommelier knew the wines backwards and forwards; I now know that I have a taste for Canary Island white wines. The mid-century modern atmosphere was like stepping into the best version of the past, the menu was positively decadent, and we left feeling very satisfied. I can't wait to have an excuse to return; Boulud Sud exceeded all of my expectations, and I will be singing its praises to everyone I meet. Thank you for an excellent evening!
Excellent food and service. We have eaten at Boulud Sud several times, anything you pick from the Mediterranean-themed menu is bound to be outstanding.
The sommelier was outstanding! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I come to NYC about 3 times a year and ALWAYS come to Boulud Sud. Whether I bring 10 friends or come alone, the service is always EXCELLENT. So friendly and charming. Prefer the full menu to the prix fixe menu but other than that, a wonderful meal, as always.
Delicious and impeccable as always! The mezze and the salmon were fantastic!
The restaurant is very conveniently located to the Lincoln center. The staff is very accommodating if you need to get to a show or performance, But the food was mediocre . Disappointing for sure. Sunday brunch menu was offered. The eggs Benedict which I have often when I dine out was just okay. The muffins were too toasted and the bacon, too crisp.
We went for brunch before a performance. The service was extraordinary, the food excellent and interesting. Highly recommend it.
The Grapefruit Givré with sesame halva, rose loukoum, and grapefruit sorbet has to be the best dessert ever!
Boulud Sud is worth it for its great service and ambiance. Although the food was good, it was not exceptional especially given the price and portion size. One can get good quality Mediterranean food made simply that has more flavor and at a slightly lower price.
Fantastic location. Great service and really interesting food.
Pre-opera dinner and dinner made the evening special. Lovely stylish atmosphere with attentive service and an interesting Middle Eastern menu. Octopus to start was excellent followed by the tagine.. delicious. Nice glass of champagne to kick off the celebrations.
It’s not cheap but worth it.
Overall made the evening special
Went on a Friday night. It was a bit crowded and noisy but the food and service made up for any minor inconvenience. A price fixed menu - fabulous apps (order the Lagostinos if they have it); a good range of main course options. Everyone loved the dishes they ordered.
Very nice place. Good food, service and setting! What could be better
Has gone downhill in last few years. Extremely disappointing food and service.. would not return.
Well, we arrived late for our reservation and therefore had only an hour for the prix fixe meal before needing to leave in time for our show at Lincoln Center just across the street. We asked the host at the reservation desk if we had time for the meal or if we should get forgo the reservation. He assured us that we had plenty of time and it was no problem. That was not the case. We told our waiter when we were seated at 6:10 that we needed to leave by 7:10. Our first course came right away, but the main course did not arrive until 7. We wolfed the food down and could not stay for the dessert. They said we could come back after the show for dessert but at 11 pm we were not interested in dessert. So, shame on us for bring late and trying to rush through a delicious and expensive meal, but shame on them for failing to be honest and promising a meal that they could not deliver. The food, as always, was fabulous as was the presentation and the sophisticated atmosphere. I will eat here again but not unless I have at least 90 minutes for the meal.
Staff could not have been nicer in accommodating our many requests!
The food at Boulud Sud is excellent. The wine list is outstanding filled with small unusual gems along with the stars you'd expect from a fine French establishment. It's not easy to combine the unusual with the grand and compliments are due.
All of my friends and I love Boulud Sud! I have been there for brunch and dinner, and the food is consistently great. The food, service and ambience are all wonderful, there's realy nothing not to like about it!
