About Boulton and Watt
A project forged of the passion of a group of partners working and living in the East Village, Boulton & Watt is based on the notion of providing great food and great drink in a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from the industrial revolution – of which Matthew Boulton & James Watt were pivotal figures with their perfection of the steam engine, which in turn catapulted two continents into a new era. Our location on the corner of Houston & Avenue A melds raw, industrial accents with warm wood and tall windows; creating an intimate yet open atmosphere fitting for all seasons and all clientele. The kitchen serves a full menu; our revised take on classic American and English comfort food late into the night. We love this neighbourhood, and we wanted to create a bar we were proud of. We hope you enjoy sharing in our passion.

Boulton and Watt Ratings and Reviews
Great food and staff but their bathrooms are awful!!! It’s crazy because the restaurant is so trendy and well decorated, it looks really nice, but then you go downstairs to the bathroom and you feel like you’re in a different restaurant. Bathroom stalls didn’t have locks on the doors, the doors barely closed unless you held them close. The sink has a freezing cold faucet and a scalding hot faucet that are too far apart to wash your hands at a comfortable temperature. It also felt incredibly dirty. It is so disassociated from the rest of the restaurant. It cheapened it though because I’m less inclined to spend money there ever again
Exceptionally good bar food in a unique, attractive setting, industrial, like the men it's named for. Great steak/frites, mac and cheese, brats in blankets, happy hour wine, $6, and those pickled pineapples cleared my sinuses. Cute desserts, too. Quiet at 3pm, probably jumping later.
Brunch was amazing. Very few restaurants in NYC get grits right and Boulton's grits are perfect.
The service was attentive but not intrusive and they were busy but did not rush our party out the door as we did linger a little longer than normal.
The expansive windows on a cold day let in so much sunlight it felt like spring is around the corner (it's not!).
Great food, great atmosphere and true hospitality. Win-win-win!
WOW - what an energetic spot! If you're looking for a spot to catch up with friends, I'd pick another restaurant... However, if you're looking for a good time with an AMAZING burger, sports all over, and LES bros - this could be it! Great beers and burgers, but don't order outside that box - other menu items left my guests a bit hungry.
Recommended by our son, we went with 4 couples for brunch. Great ambiance, gets a bit noisy, hard to talk more than 1 or 2 persons down. Service was good, not rushed, but did have to get hold server to ask for drinks & not run away before he took our order. Good portions, great prices.
My friend and i were celebrating our birthdays. We made reservation expecting to eat dinner there. When we were first directed to a table it was an odd table that used the window sill as a seat and would appear to be more comfy if just lounging around having drinks. After we got our table changed we order delish food... the fried green tomatoes and picked green beans were awesome and the burgers were AMAZING! The cocktails were also very well made! The best part was it was on the same night as Santa Con and the bouncer made sure to keep the establishment “classy” so that was a bonus! Will def come back again!
Such a fun atmosphere with excellent food! Made a reservation with two friends for a celebration dinner, and everyone enjoyed their meals and had a great time. Brats in a blanket appetizer and the papardelle entree were especially good! I arrived to the restaurant a bit before my reservation time, and I appreciated that they still seated me at the table early while I waited for my friends. (Most restaurants in NYC make you wait for your full party to arrive before seating you.) Would definitely recommend for a meal or just drinks, and will definitely be back!
Food was amazing. I had a reservation for 4 people but 2 more showed up and the girl had no problem moving us to a bigger table. I think they swapped servers and the 2nd girl was nice but seemed less accommodating and seemed to get frustrated when we wanted to split the bill. Over all the staff were good, food was delicious and price was reasonable
Went here for dinner before a show at Mercury Lounge. Exceeded my expectations. Great food and drinks and not crazy expensive. Hostess was awesome when I called to let her know we’d be 15 mins late for the original res and had our table ready when we arrived. We started with the fancy shot special and some drinks, and got the trio of pickles - they were amazing. Def get the habanero pickled pineapple! I also had the short rib- which was amazing. Can’t believe it took me five years to try this place, can’t wait to go back!
The food is always amazing. This was a much busier time of day then I usually go so the service was not a 10 like usual and it was very noisy. Everyone was very friendly but it just felt like when every we needed anything it’s was this flag down game. But when ever some one came even if they weren’t our original server they had no problem helping us which to me is and amazing thing you never really find at other restaurants. Can’t wait for the next visit.
Went there on a Saturday for a date. It was lively and energetic with great music and good vibes. The noise level was pretty high but it didn't take away from the experience at all. The service was good for a busy, Saturday night and the food was incredible. Definitely would recommend the burrata and mac and cheese bites!
This was an excellent spot to bring a large party. I walked in with 10 and they had no problem making the reservation for us. The food was great too - best burger I've had in a while - and everyone loved their mains. Good stuff. No frills. Enjoyable atmosphere.
Made reservation through Open Table for dinner. After sitting us and placing our initial order for drinks and an appetizer, the server informed us that we would have to leave within 20 minutes because the restaurant had an event that night for the boxing match. The restaurant did not contact us after we made the reservation to advise us of the special circumstances that night. All we got to try were some pickled pineapple which wasn't bad. But don't expect I'll ever return given the unceremonious way were shown the door. If the restaurant intended to kick us out after such a brief period, the restaurant should have at least shown the courtesy of warning us before sitting us. We were also gruffly yelled at by the Maitre D as we were leaving. Suffice it to say, we did not feel like valued customers.
Given that this restaurant didn't actually honor their OpenTable reservation, OpenTable might want to reconsider whether to include Boulton and Watt on their platform.
Had a seat near the wide open windows. Nice vibe to the place. Service was excellent. Nice selection of beers on tap and in cans/bottles. The picked pineapple was delicious, wasn't so crazy about the watermelon. Largest order of fries I've ever seen. Brick chicken was excellent. Had a nice kick to it. Chicken palliard was very good
