My favorite restaurant in a city full of great restaurants! One of the oldest and one of the most consistent. I’ve never had a bad meal at Boulevard. Congratulations to chef Nancy Oakes for her ability to produce consistently delicious food throughout the years!
long time fan of boulevard. Dinner was mostly excellent , but pork chop was a bit tough.
Great food and service. We let them know through OpenTable that we were there to celebrate a birthday, and there was a birthday card from the staff waiting for us on our table when we arrived.
I would call this place a "foo-foo" restaurant. Ambiance is nice. Food looks pretty. But not much substance in the dishes. My GF and I ordered the avocado salad and the baked/grilled halibut (we split both). The Avocado salad was essentially a few small chunks of avocado, mixed in with shredded lettuce and cabbage, and a light dressing. Price was About $16 for less than a dollar in ingredients. Very disappointing. The Halibut came with some wild rice and baked cauliflower, in a lemon sauce. Small portion of fish, and the small pieces of cauli were too much on the "crunchy" side, and the rice was, well, rice. Thirty nine dollars. If you want a restaurant where "appearance" matters more than "substance," well, this is the place for you.
The food was outstanding - beautifully presented, tasted superb, and nice amount. The flavors went together very well. Wine was outstanding - tasted 2 pinots and 2 cabs. Atmosphere is really nice too - classy place, but not too stuffy. Prices are pretty high, so for us, it was more of a special occasion. Worth it though!!!
Boulevard has been one of my go-to restaurants in SF for many years. Their team came through for us yet again, from the moment we entered until we left. Boulevard's wine selection and wine professionals would make the place worth a visit even if the food weren't quite as good ... but it is SO good and so well presented that dining there is just a delight. My wife and I love this place and plan to come back again and again.
Great experience & great food. Will recommend.
Consistently high quality food over the 20+ years its been in business, the food is always delicious & well-resented, the staff is well-prepared, the ambiance is lovely.
Boulevard used to be extraordinary. But it was just good food this time. Disappointing.
This is a great restaurant. I came with my family with two kids. Even though they are the only children in the restaurant. It didn't seem too odd to be in there. All the servers are friendly. We had a great experience.
We had a lovely lunch to celebrate a birthday. The service was first class and the food delicious. Highly recommend the Boulevard.
fabulous food, ambience, and service. What more could one want?
This is probably our tenth visit to Boulevard over its many years in business. How do you say food is outstanding as usual. How do you say service was outstanding as usual. The one note that was off was wine service in which we asked for a little guidance and were disappointed by the sommelier's choice.
Superb food and service - very attentive and helpful for this single diner.
Boulevard remains a classy great place for a good meal and/or celebration. The menu is extensive enough and the wine list incredible. We had a nice birthday dinner and good service.
Great food and service. I highly recommend it for lunch .
The Boulevard is always a spectacular dinner event. We have been dining there since it opened. The preparation is perfect. The restaurant has very high standards, always the finest quality of food. I particularly enjoy the expertly prepared purees on every dish. My husband and I feel it is the best in the City. And of course the ambiance is great and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly.
As always - excellent service - very good food and great ambiance.
Even though 20 years on Nancy O continues to deliver. Food on point, menu changes daily, even though I missed the beef cheeks and scallops, the choices perfect, the lamb delicious, and wine suggestion inspired. Going back next week. Consistently in my top 5.
Great menu choices and service. Courteous and considerate staff
Excellent as usual.
I lived in the Bay Area and ate at the counter by the kitchen on the day Boulevard opened. I keep coming back whenever I'm in SF. It is a fabulous restaurant--one of the best!
On this visit I brought a friend newly moved to the Bay Area from Paris for her first visit. She loved it although thought the portions were massive compared to Paris.
On the whole everything was great but I think that the kitchen is not trying as hard. For example, the tuna crudo was very tasty but just kind of dumped on the plate. The lamb chop was off the bone & perfectly cooked but not really arranged in the center of the plate but piled on one side. My friend's duck was arranged perfectly. No explanation but not what I expected.
I'll definitely return but I was a bit disappointed.
Meeting friends from Scotland on their first visit to San Francisco. The food was adequate but not particulaly special. The service was erratic and the prices were to high for the value.
What can I say, Boulevard never disappoints. Our dining experience with Dennis (our server) was very memorable. Dennis always makes great recommendations and offers an explanation as to what you are about to enjoy. It feels like I always try something new every time I visit Boulevard. Great place for a date or a nice dinner with friends. The duck was amazing! Will come visit again very soon.
Boulevard offers the atmosphere of a French bistro and a menu that features local California ingredients. The noise level is neither too quiet nor too loud. Many tables have a view of the illuminated Bay Bridge or the Ferry Building. The abalone appetizer was amazing. Main dishes (lamb and duck) were cooked to perfection. Service was good. Don't miss the "Interesting" section of the wine list or the selection of cheeses. I would definitely dine there again.
Boulevard is one of our two favorite places in San Francisco. It is beautiful and the menu is creative. It might help to have one more recognizable 1st course soup or salad. The entree choices are excellent.
Boulevard never disappoints! The food was once again over the top and the location was perfect for our stay at the Hyatt Embarcadero. It was my 60th birthday! When I picked up my menu there was a little card wishing me a Happy Birthday from the restaurant. That's great attention to detail. My husband had the Halibut and it was perfect. I am a vegan. I asked our waiter if there was a vegan menu. There is not. But he said that one of the waitress had asked the chef to make the risotto vegan and he did. He asked the chef if he would make it for me. It was green with asparagus on top and shaved all over were truffles! It was delicious
Boulevard never disappoints! From the moment you walk in you are very well taken care of. Nancy continues to stay cutting edge with her food and presentations. Bravo!
The service and dinner were lovely. The four (4) of us had different entrees. The filet, duck and lamb were exceptional. The pork was a disappointment. It was dry and over cooked. Not as good as Prospect Restaurant. For that reason we did not give you a 5-Star.
We are three lifelong friends that get together annually for our birthdays and Boulevards is one of our favorite restaurants to go out to from the East Bay. Love our food, the service and the location.
This is as close to a perfect restaurant as one can find. The first is superb. Service lagged a little this time, although that's uncharacteristic. We had fish, pork, burrata, octopus and four desserts.
Boulevard is one of San Francisco's culinary gems. Over several years of dining here, we have always had exceptional food and wine. The restaurant has sustained a level of excellence over the years that is notable. Service is friendly and efficient. We highly recommend and will continue to return. If you like tuna tartar, try it here. When in season, the northern halibut dishes are always good. wonderful burger!
We go to Boulevard a couple of times a year, but we reserve it mostly for our wedding anniversaries. We have been married 3 years and celebrated all 3 at Boulevard. We are treated very well and just love the atmosphere. It reminds us of the "supper clubs" we both remember when we were younger and lived separately in different areas of the mid-west. Sheena treated us very nicely. Thank you to all.
Good food, great atmosphere
Did not disappoint! Can't wait to go back. Service was over the top amazing.
I was visiting from NY. A friend had suggested this restaurant to me. It was an amazing experience. The service was impeccable, from seating,to wine and food recommendations, to dessert and espresso. The food is brilliant here. Every subtle addition is very well thought out. I will remember the buratta salad, the filet and the rice bread pudding dessert ( I’m leaving out so many wonderful ingredients, to much to remember or list anyway). I just can tell you that it all played together sooooo beautifully.
Boulevard remains one of San Francisco's premier restaurants, and my personal favorite.
I have been fortunate to have been able to dine here more than a few times over a 20+ year span. With that said, Boulevard has been consistent at providing the highest level of service, and being committed to producing an excellent dining experience... Top notch- starting with the inviting ambiance, through the genuine thoughtful service, and finally down to the absolutely amazing dishes and cocktails.
Although some might consider it a bit pricey; the service is excellent, the food is wonderful, the atmosphere is cozy, and the noise is not overwhelming. Money well spent.
The Boulevard never lets us down. Best in The City.
What has happened to Boulevard? We have so enjoyed it over the years but last Week we had a poor experience- start to finish. It was my husband’s birthday and there were four of us. We arrived to have my husband presented with a martini and a bottle of champagne and two gift cards but neither card said who it was from and exactly what the gift was. When asked we were told that one gift giver wanted to be anonymous and the other they didn’t know who and couldn’t find out. Turned out both answers were wrong and afterwards we discovered who had sent what (and also what had been ordered by someone and not delivered).
The food was so disappointing. First, the menu just wasn’t very exciting to read - pretty straightforward - I mean, tuna tartare still? The server recommended an octopus and calamari dish that out to be bland and dull. My Lamb main course was just plain tough. That was pretty much the experience of all the dishes for all four of us that night. This used to feel upscale French/California bistro but now it seems to be an uninspired American restaurant.
My dinner was perfect perfect perfect. Perfect. You know how it’s so sad when you go out for a special dinner at a supposedly top notch restaurant and it just doesn’t live up to expectations and you’re really disappointed? Not so at Boulevard this weekend! My food was absolutely everything I waned it to be. Absolutely perfect. Halibut, cauliflower and a lemon cream/foam... doesn’t sound that exciting the way I describe it, but it was EVERYTHING. I’m still kind of (re)living the dream dinner. The hamachi crudo starter was also amazing. I’ve only eaten here a handful of times, but they’ve always come through. I want to eat what they gave me every day. Forever.
