Special occasion prices, but great experience. Among first courses, the seafood ravioli was an absolute standout - one of the most delicious and beautifully composed plates ever. The lamb main course was also excellent--meltingly tender and succulent. Dessert was good, but not great. Persimmon pudding was not warm as advertised and the creme fraiche read as salty (not slightly sour) and clashed with the cake and ice cream. The chocolate cake elements looked beautiful and the flavors were good, but not exceptional. Service was great overall, although we had to ask them not to rush, as their habit is to fire the main course the second the appetizer is picked up. That means you will have two courses delivered within maybe 20 minutes. Not ideal if you want a slow, relaxed pace. They did respond well when we shared this, though.
Thirty some years and going strong! A testament to Nancy Oaks culinary talent and Paul Kuleto’s interior design. Awesome food, amazing service, wonderful wines, and unsurpassed atmosphere.
Very expensive but well worth for a special occasion or just a food treat for the soul.
A must try in SF
This is a wonderful restaurant! The food is unbelievably good and the service is delightful as well as efficient. Also, we like the decor a lot. For Christmas, it captured the flavor of SF with nicely presented Christmas decorations. Such a great ambiance!! This is definitely 5 star and has become one of our top SF restaurants. Will recommend to anyone at any time!
Phenomenal restaurant. Have been dining here for years always enjoyed it. I’ve brought school friends. As I got older I brought my employees here. When we had our children we came on their birthdays. Of late I bring my friends here when we have time in San Francisco and always take extended lunches or dinners with great wines coffee’s desserts and the most excellent service in San Francisco. Some of you as always of great help . The cooks are excellent the waiters and waitresses no well how to describe the menus. Beautiful ambience in view of the Embarcadero with the overlying lying Baybridge seen. Hands-down my favorite restaurant in San Francisco.
We have been going to Boulevard for more than 20 years, even though we live in Hawaii. It is always a must stop place for dinner whenever we are in the Bay area. The setting, especially if you can get table in the back room, with a view of the Bay Bridge at night is spectacular. Food is the restaurant's calling card...always consistently good regardless if you are having appetizers, salads or the main dish. Kudos to the chef for so many years of bringing gastronomic joy to us and many others!
The Boulevard never fails to impress. Aside from a slightly longer wait (8:30 reservation, sat at 8:45ish) everything was perfect - and waiting at the bar in this place isn't a huge sacrifice anyway - we were just starving after the BBB show. This place is great for cocktails, date night, special occasions, etc. The foie was incredible, get it while you still can before Kalifornistan outlaws it again.
The food was fantastic, but the service was terrible. The host seated us next to a verrrrrry loud (and drunk) table of 8. Everyone hated them, the other guests, the host, the servers. Certainly, we didn't choose to sit near them. But our server kind of punished us just for being seated near the loud table. He was trying to ignore them, and ended up ignoring us as well. I tried in vain for 20 minutes to get his eye to order another round of drinks; could not get the guys attention. I finally asked the host, who was seating another table, to please send our server over so we could order more drinks. Two tables over, a table of four men ordering bottles of wine, got all his attention. I used to go to Boulevard at least once a month, when I worked in the area. I think it's fine for a business lunch. I will never go back for dinner because of the service.
It was my first time at Boulevard and I was so impressed! Food was excellent. We started with burrata and a crab salad. Crab was excellent! So flavorful and gorgeous plating. I enjoyed the filet and we finished with a delicious ice cream sundae with brownies and banana. My only complaint was i was too full to finish everything!
Sourdough bread = heavenly! Far superior to Michael Mina, over-rated, or La Folie, superb. Sourdough precisely the way it should be - perhaps one of the best in San Francisco. Butter excellent as well. Together a superb combination. Abalone appetizer disappointing - didn’t work - Abalone too parsimonious, purée ‘meh’. Service mediocre - over-crowded and/or under-staffed or some combination there-of. Duck breast excellent, and the duck sausage though American Girl Doll sized was delicious and creative. Again - would the chef please just ditch the purees? We know he can do them but there is no benefit from them. The duck fat fries were also delicious, though again - why not lose the white sauce/condiment on them? They stand on their own! The cheese I had was excellent though glad I saved the bread for the cheese course as that was superior to the three that came with the French soft cow Cremaux.
Unfortunately our birthday dinner took over three hours because of glacially slow service. In particular there was a long gap between being seated and ordering — and we were unable to choose a wine before the apps were down. Also an entree ordered well done arrived at medium rare and took 12 mins to bring up letting all the other dishes go cold.
Our first time visiting SF celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and so was the service. That said We’d had better fine dining. The place is very noisy, we asked for a different table as we were right in front of the open kitchen, they did move us with no issue. Still not a romantic atmosphere. The tables and cushions were very uncomfortable. It needs a make over. People were in shorts and baseball caps. No dress code reinforced which takes away even more for a very expensive dinner.
Boulevard never disappoints. As usual the food was excellent and the staff is always friendly, attentive and efficient. We can only give Boulevard our highest recommendation for special occasions, business luncheons or any other reason you might have to dine in one of San Francisco's finest restaurants.
Boulevard is one of my favorite restaurants ANYWHERE. It is my favorite in San Francisco. It's the real deal: great cooking, honest "non-tortured" food, great service, exactly the right size portions, great wait staff, perfect cocktails, a great hostess, etc. etc. Friendly atmosphere! I seriously wonder why some of the three starred restaurants in the city have any stars at all. While I appreciate a well plated meal, I am more interested in flavor than in eating art. What one gets at Boulevard is delicious, beautifully presented, and elegantly served REAL FOOD! There's a good reason it's so well booked and has been for 24 years. Brava, Nancy!!!!
