My first visit to Bouche was so delightful that I will be sure to return. I was there with a friend from out of town, and because it is a mezzanine space with very few tables, we could actually talk without yelling over a din of people. Everything we had was delicious and perfectly cooked; my favorite dish was swordfish served over a crunchy, yummy polenta and asparagus. The service is good, not oppressive, and everyone involved is very charming.
This place is a small and authentic gem. Downstairs dining is at a bar, which makes for lively conversation with people you don't know. Upstairs is an intimate space where you can actually hear your dining partners' conversations -- a rare occurrence is today's noisy eateries. The menu is limited. I recommend the swordfish. The wine is reasonably priced, and the service is good.
Such good food! We had a fabulous night. The place itself is so cosy and sweet. You could think you are in France. Great diner. Bravo et merci, we will be back.
This is the second time I have been to Bouche. The first time two years ago was great. This time, it was really not great. First, we made reservations, but our table wasn't ready for another 20 minutes. The host at the front was gracious and kind. But, when we were finally seated, our server pretty much ignored us. I never was asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. We sat and then, our server wanted to take our order. There was no explanation of entrees or specials. We ordered the hangar steak. The steak was ok, but the potatoes had liquid smoke and tasted like a campfire. I couldn't eat it. There were only 4 entrees. For only 4 entrees, each of them should be amazing. I was very disappointed. I was in San Francisco for a conference. There are so many restaurants in San Francisco that next time, I plan to go elsewhere.
Warm, friendly staff who seem to care about your experience. Food is fresh and delicious. Lovely atmosphere.
Best steak..ever. Incredible food, amazing service and the cutest smallest spot.
Love this place and can’t wait to go back.
This spot is a must.
Excellent specials. One of the consistently best places for fresh seafood in Santa Fe, although they have a very complete menu and very accessible wine list. We live in Santa Fe and Bouche is one of our favorites.
Delicious meal! Server was great!
Great ambience and super cool French dudes.
Love this place. Food is excellent as is the wine selection. Service is top notch too!!
This is a hidden gem that has the feel of a true Paris bistro with an San Francisco twist! Small but not crowded. The food is excellent and the service is down to earth and warm! The portions are decent sized! Definitely will be back!!!
Cozy atmosphere. Great service and excellent local menu!
This somewhat tepid review is solely based on price. The food was decent to good and the service outstanding. However the prices were extremely high for the caliber of food.
Loved everything about Bouche! Amazing staff & the most delicious plates.
This place is a real charmer. The food is great (French with some original spins on traditional favorites) and there are multiple options even for a non-meat eater like myself. The space is cozy and quaint, and the service attentive. We would definitely go again.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant. Food was amazing as always. We were warmly greeted by the downstairs server who took us to our seats despite being busy with his own tables. (Thanks, Matthieu!) I had the risotto, again. It changes from season to season — my favorite was I think the summer risotto, with corn and chanterelles (?) — but every version I have had is delicious. The risotto here is seriously the best risotto I have ever had. We also ordered the salmon, which was moist and flavorful and perfectly cooked. I even ate the skin, which I rarely do. Most restaurants just don’t get it right, if they even try. Hats off to the chef, Chris Maluso, who deserves to be more well known than he is. Our server was friendly and attentive and very knowledgeable. He recommended a dessert wine I never would have thought to try — and it was delicious. (Thanks, Sam!) I will definitely be back.
Great dinner, great service and great food. Small with wonderful intimate ambiance! Go!
Amazing local spot. The food is all amazing, and the service staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Not only was the food fantastic (as always)... I really really appreciated the service!!! We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Two of us had show tickets and a pretty tight timeline. Two of us did not. One of us was VERY late. Some restaurants become very unsettled when this sort of disruption occurs but our server and the kitchen worked served us perfectly with NO COMPLAINT!! In this world of stuffy SF restaurants... I can't tell you how much I being treated like a valued customer.
Had a wonderful experience here after a late, last minute cancellation at the original place we had initially reserved. Great ambiance with an authentic cuisine, everything we ordered: hanger steak w/trumpet mushrooms, brussels sprouts, bacon bread and risotto w/truffles were all highly recommended. Couldn’t pass on the panna cotta and the lemon meringue tart—actually taking home two orders! We were more than pleasantly surprised at this gem of a restaurant we decided on for my birthday
Fabulous place the people who work there are great. Fun group. Food great. Wine list reasonable and good. Love this place. Vive la France
Reserved a table for my girlfriend's birthday dinner - the service was fantastic and they had fresh foie gras in the house. Amazing experience and would fully recommend for special occasions!
Tiny space, feels a bit claustrophobic
This restaurant was an unexpected treasure. The website pictures of the food do not do it justice. The mixed greens salad and salmon were fantastic! The wait staff wre very friendly and attentive.
You can't go wrong here.
Every dish was spectacular, service was outstanding, and pairing of wine to our tastes was perfect. Couldn't ask for more.
This is my second time to dine at Bouche and it did not disappoint. One of my companions just got back from Italy, was so happy to sit down and feel like he was in a Farmhouse in Tuscany. The St. Jacques crudo was so beautiful and the taste was incredible. I could have had another order but wanted to have the salmon served with beautiful lentilles. My companions had the steak and arrived with the wonderful smell. One had the seared foie gras which is first for him and really enjoyed it. This place is worth coming back to!
It's a good restaurant, but be prepared to wait. Even with a reservation, you'll wait an additional 45 minutes before you are seated
Asked for the meat to be cooked medium, but received as mostly raw
Always enjoy our meals at Bouche. The food is top notch, especially the tangy custard. Amazing!
The food delicious; the waitstaff welcoming; the ambiance cozy. Highly recommend!
Great food. Quirky, casual decor. Good service. Great food. (Have I mentioned that already?) A favorite that we have visited and will visit again. Downside - wine list mostly French wines. (Fine for French wine snobs; not so good for those of us who favor Californian or other wines.)
I am going to make this my neighborhood hang! Sweet, very French and delicious food and wine.
Second time there and we love it.., will be back for more .
This place is a gem. We have had several wonderful late night (love that they are open!) dinners here. Most recently: superb brussels sprouts (and I am an aficionado); excellent lamb belly confit, perfect hangar steak and a panna cotta that was literally the best dessert I have ever had. Seriously. Great service. Cozy ambiance.
We were in San Francisco for a few days, and our hotel was nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, our server was charming, and the food was good. A fun, decent place to eat with plenty of atmosphere.
Second visit and they didn’t disappoint. Great small restaurant with good food, ambiance and service.
Very small, French-ish restaurant. Tiny bar area downstairs and small seated dining upstairs with tables extremely close to each other (as in, you could easily reach over and taste your neighbor's food). Result is a very loud restaurant, even though there are maybe seats for 30 people max. Has a fun atmosphere. Food was a little disappointing. Based on reviews, I was excited about the panisses but found them just meh, a little on the blah side even with the aioli. Market green salad was fresh but not very interesting and for $16 I definitely expected better. Surprised that the salmon was farmed so opted for the butternut squash risotto. It was good. Waiter comped us with a panna cotta dessert because of a mix-up with my partner's dinner. Nice of him for sure. I wasn't crazy about the dessert--it had a lot of gelatin so was firmer than I like. Overall, decent food, cute but loud setting, expensive for what you get.
Consistent excellent food quality and taste, as well as service. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. We sat upstairs this time, which is nice. However, we like the downstairs chef view and bar seating even better.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
