Bouche Ratings and Reviews
Had a wonderful experience here after a late, last minute cancellation at the original place we had initially reserved. Great ambiance with an authentic cuisine, everything we ordered: hanger steak w/trumpet mushrooms, brussels sprouts, bacon bread and risotto w/truffles were all highly recommended. Couldn’t pass on the panna cotta and the lemon meringue tart—actually taking home two orders! We were more than pleasantly surprised at this gem of a restaurant we decided on for my birthday
This is my second time to dine at Bouche and it did not disappoint. One of my companions just got back from Italy, was so happy to sit down and feel like he was in a Farmhouse in Tuscany. The St. Jacques crudo was so beautiful and the taste was incredible. I could have had another order but wanted to have the salmon served with beautiful lentilles. My companions had the steak and arrived with the wonderful smell. One had the seared foie gras which is first for him and really enjoyed it. This place is worth coming back to!
Great food. Quirky, casual decor. Good service. Great food. (Have I mentioned that already?) A favorite that we have visited and will visit again. Downside - wine list mostly French wines. (Fine for French wine snobs; not so good for those of us who favor Californian or other wines.)
This place is a gem. We have had several wonderful late night (love that they are open!) dinners here. Most recently: superb brussels sprouts (and I am an aficionado); excellent lamb belly confit, perfect hangar steak and a panna cotta that was literally the best dessert I have ever had. Seriously. Great service. Cozy ambiance.
Very small, French-ish restaurant. Tiny bar area downstairs and small seated dining upstairs with tables extremely close to each other (as in, you could easily reach over and taste your neighbor's food). Result is a very loud restaurant, even though there are maybe seats for 30 people max. Has a fun atmosphere. Food was a little disappointing. Based on reviews, I was excited about the panisses but found them just meh, a little on the blah side even with the aioli. Market green salad was fresh but not very interesting and for $16 I definitely expected better. Surprised that the salmon was farmed so opted for the butternut squash risotto. It was good. Waiter comped us with a panna cotta dessert because of a mix-up with my partner's dinner. Nice of him for sure. I wasn't crazy about the dessert--it had a lot of gelatin so was firmer than I like. Overall, decent food, cute but loud setting, expensive for what you get.
Bouche is amazing. We went for New Year’s Eve dinner. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is great. American restaurants tend to exaggerate with the portion of their food but Bouche is big relief as the portion is just right. You won’t feel overstuff leaving the restaurant.
The braised beef short ribs is divine. A must try.
This was my second time at this small, well appointed restaurant. Like the first time, I was surprised at how comfortable I felt and how easy the experience was in such a small, actually sort of cramped, space. I don't like using the over-worked word "charming" but it does seem to fit this establishment. The menu is far from complicated, yet the food was far from simple. This chef is nothing if not bold. It works. I struggled with the wine list a bit because I am a Nor-Cal resident who stays close to home when selecting wine. So I asked for help, my somewhat over-worked but would never let on to that, waiter was very helpful and I picked something quite workable. Ok, so go here if you want to get a bit edgy with your food. Go here to enjoy a close conversation, it's quiet enough. I won't call it romantic but it's snug so someone you like getting close to is preferable than say your Aunt Linda. It is French, so don't go there to rush, they won't let you. I like it for what it is and will try to get back there again because it is feels cozy and I know I'll taste something memorable.
The steak, which was good, came out luke warm and the potatoes were over fried and hard. The chicken was surprisingly good, but not the quinoa. Bacon bread was also good, but not sure if it's worth the $10 for such a small loaf. I noted that it was for a birthday, we didn't order dessert but they didn't offer any free sweets or mention it.
This place was awesome. Small and Cozy. Some of the best food that I have ever had in my life! So delicious from start to finish. The service was incredible. We really enjoyed the French waiter, who provided several Spot ON recommendations. The wine, the food, the ambiance -made you feel like you were dining in France. Did I mention DELICIOUS? We are definitely heading back to Bouche as soon as possible.
Nearly every time I travel to SF and try to eat at Bouche. The menu changes on a regular basis and it's always full of wonderful surprises. Combinations of ingredients that work in a harmonious and tasty way. I also like that they stay open late so you can grab a bite long after your "normal" day has ended. It's small, intimate and wonderful.
We loved sitting upstairs in the cozy dining room with windows open to the street. Great atmosphere! The menu is very short so you might want to check it out before you book, but the food is well prepared. The hanger steak was excellent. I had the coriander crusted ahi tuna for the starter and it was very tasty.
Bouche was a phenomenal dining experience. The seating is very intimate and the ambiance feels like you are in Europe! The food was delicious and the service was outstanding as well. Nothing to complain about here whatsoever. Bouche is a home run....especially for date night.
Brought my wife for her 40th Birthday. What a night the Staff was awesome. The food was unbelievable. Enjoyed every bite to the end of every dish. Not a spec of food on any of the plates that left our table. I’m 200 pounds and eat like I’m 600 pounds and went home full. One of the only places in SF I would recommend to anyone. Will be returning next chance I get.
