Chick pea fritters are marvelous. Swordfish was amazingly cooked, so tender. Beet purée could use a splash of tart. Creme fraiche custard was exceptional finish.
Bouche is a lovely, cute French Bistro near Union Square. The atmosphere was charming, wine list was extensive and the food was simply outstanding. (Do not leave without ordering the savory bacon bread) Highly recommended. We will return next time we visit San Fran!
Delicious food--a California spin on French classics. Inventive, carefully prepared, and utterly fresh. The fougasse was some of the best bread I've ever eaten--certainly in this country. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I'd love to move up the street and make this a regular stop.
Amazing steak - seriously, perfectly cooked & beautifully plated. Also the bacon bread is insane. We will be back!
The food was out of this world. Even though all the reviews stated awesome service I found the staff a bit inattentive.
We ate there last year for our anniversary and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, this time around I felt like their food had deteriorated quite a bit. Both my wife's meat and my pork loin were very tough to eat. I was quite surprised that they used such a low quality meat for both our meals. I had not experienced eating meat that hard in a very long time and didn't expect to do so in such a restaurant.
Nearly all the wines are French, but the server helped us select a great one.
Loved this hole in the wall. Not fancy with only a few tables in a loft above the kitchen but it was comfortable and the food was excellent. Chick pea fries and bacon bread were huge hits
Tiny, qwerty location with big city vibe. I get the limited menu. That's smart . Not as innovative as I might have dreamed but very well done nonetheless. Spot on service. Hey, it's different from the celebrity chef scene. Try it.
I always feel like Bouche is a good value -- wines I haven't tried before that are good, not too expensive and go well with the good dishes.
Amazing food. Amazing service. This was the perfect date or hangout atmosphere. If you're looking for a giant menu and cookie cutter plates, this is not your spot. If you're looking for a small menu with everything done perfectly by someone who cares and takes pride in the details, Bouche is your place! We will definitely be back the next time we're in the city. A gem tucked away. Truly a 5 star experience in my opinion.
A charming and authentic spot for French food lovers. If you're into small plates cooked to perfection, this is the place for you.
Very small and quaint, my wife and I had a wonderful Valentines day dinner at bouche! The food was fairly pricy, but also fantastic. The wine list was exotic and we thoroughly enjoyed overindulging ourselves. I firmly feel as though we got what we paid for. The servers were kind and helpful we arrived precisely at our reservation time and were seated immediately. Could not have asked for a more romantic setting for our Valentine's Day dinner.
Limited menu but what was on it was superb. Felt like going to a nice local bistro in the heart of France. Reservations is a must as the place is small. Definitely worth s try.
Tiny spot, typical French bistro with very friendly service. Would love to go back.
This is a teeny tiny restaurant with great food and terrific service. Loved the food and the dessert. Because it is small, it is quiet and one can have a conversation while they enjoy dinner.
Really enjoyable experience. We both liked all of our food and the service was great. My favorite moment was when my steak arrived as I was studying the wine list to decide on a glass of red wine. The host then arrived unasked with a glass of wine, saying "I think this would be perfect." It was.
This was our second time eating at Bouche and it's becoming our go to spot for an outstanding French dinner, not too fancy but outstanding, fresh ingredients, great flavor combinations and a fun, vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Visited the place because of good reviews. Found the place to be very, very small. Service was great, but the food only average.
Bouche is a teeny resteraunt with a creative chef. Best sweetbreads I have ever had.
Fantastic food. Great staff. Must order the hangar steak.
This was our fourth visit to Bouche and we were not disappointed. In fact, this was our best experience yet, in part due to our excellent server, Mehdi. We selected a bottle of Sancerre rouge and the bacon bread to start. Both were very good. We then ordered the swordfish and the pork loin. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. We finished with a very tasty salted caramel dessert. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy casual conversations with our server as well as adjacent diners. I highly recommend this spot for great food, wine and service. Be sure to chat with the chefs on your way out. They are very talented!
Took a dear friend for a dinner. Pretty place. Food was fabulous.
Dining area is very cozy! Meal was delicious, and service excellent!
Lovely waitress took excellent care of us in the upstairs. Food was well thought out and executed perfectly. Wine selection was wonderful. Great dinner.
Fantastic food, ambiance and service! Julie the waitress is very friendly and helpful.
We chose this restaurant somewhat randomly and we were absolutely delighted. The staff were fabulous and the focused menu shows nice attention to detail. Tables are close which I like as you can have a nice chat with neighbor. Overall, a great night.
We enjoyed our dinner after the theater. We had a 10pm reservation and had to wait 1/2 hour for our table. The staff is friendly and the food was tasty. The kitchen is the tiniest kitchen I have ever seen. I think this is what resulted in long wait times between courses. We got to the restaurant at 10pm and left at 1am. I would recommend this restaurant, but not if you are expecting a dining experience of under 2 hours.
The food is generally delicious. Unfortunately the service on the night we were there paled in comparison to the food and we left feeling excited to explore other French restaurants in the area.
Came here with a friend for a pre-show dinner. It's a very small and cozy upstairs restaurant with some bar seats downstairs. They have a nice wine list.
We started with the pork belly as an appetizer; it was done just right, tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. I went on to have the pork tenderloin and my friend had the swordfish. Her swordfish was exceptionally good. My tenderloin was good if not great...was cooked well but not particularly flavorful. For dessert we had creme fraiche with salted caramel, a very nice and not too sweet dessert option.
Overall a nice place to visit, worth a look if you have theater plans in that area for later.
Amazing French cuisine. Personable service. Small and intimate ambiance. What more could you ask for? I am in love with this place and wish I had found it sooner. Love the eclectic crowd, Tight, intimate setting, casually perfect service...and the pot de fez - so simply perfect I think I dreamt about it for three night straight. How did you make something so simple, so amazingly perfect?
It was great, not rushed at all. Limited menu but great selection. Outstanding French wines. Dining at tables upstairs - great informal sit down bar area for dining on the first floor. A reservation is a must.
Small intimate restaurant off union square. Bar was very nice and fun. Good drinks and nice wines recomended by the staff, which by the way was extremely attentive. The food was very good and all in all a very nice evening.
Wonderful French bistrot. Outstanding food-really remarkable. The staff was charming. One of my best SF meals ever!
My wife and I discovered Bouche a few years ago when we were in town for an opera, and staying at Union Square. We could not find a restaurant in the area open past 10:00 p.m., and Bouche was suggested by the maitre d' at another establishment. We now stop by every time we are in town. They are open late, the food is always interesting and delicious. I am not as familiar with French wines as I am with California wines, but the staff is always helpful in choosing something appropriate. Prices are also very reasonable. The only reason I gave Bouche four stars for ambiance is because the upstairs dining room is too dark to read the menu. Also, presentation is part of serving great food and, while I'm sure the dishes here are beautiful, you can't really see what you're eating.
Overcharged for wine and food was average - bacon bread was good though
Fantastic, authentic French food. Good wines. Great date night place. We were seated upstairs and it was quiet and romantic.
Bouche was tucked away above Stockton in a neighborhood near Union Square. It was super tiny, but they got a lot done in the small space. The servers were all from France. They were knowledgeable about the wine. The food was not as spectacular as I had hoped, but it was still enjoyable. The restaurant itself was very romantic amd cozy. Definitely not a spot for groups, but great for date night. Don't expect to be seated right at your reservation time. Enjoy the wine while you wait.
Lovely little restaurant! My husband, daughter and I found this little gem on our weekend trip to San Francisco. We felt like we were in France as soon as we walked in. Small, cozy place; we were seated upstairs. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was nicely presented on lovely ceramic dishes. Perfect portions and everything was delicious. We will definitely plan to come back.
Lovely restaurant to dine in, French cooking was excellent
