If you are looking for a French restaurant with the European vibe, this is it! You have found it! The food is always amazingly fresh because they source the ingredients locally. The owners, servers, everyone working there are extremely nice and friendly. This is my favorite French restaurant in the city!
Great service! Do not miss the Adventurous dish!
Excellent food, lively atmosphere for small place, friendly attentive service.
Delicious and cozy. Great way to spend the evening.
Our server was AMAZING! Thank your making our anniversary a lot much memorable
Pre theatre. Perfect timing. Warm, personal.
Our favorite French restaurant in the City.
Perfect in every way...a gem hidden plain sight.
Very nice intimate dining area upstairs from the wine bar. The food and service was excellent.
Slightly better food quality and service than I expected though price is what I expected - expensive. Annoying like many SF restaurants that they pass off the cost of their employee benefits to their customers as an additional cost.
Second time there.
Every one of our three courses was delicious. The waiter was exceptional.
We will return!
Thanks for a great experience!
Always exceeds our expectations
First time here for a Valentine’s Day dinner, and it was a revelation. Easy to miss this small restaurant tucked above the Stockton Street Tunnel on Bush Street but it is well worth the effort. The food was uniformly outstanding despite there being a limited menu given the small kitchen. Delicious appetizers with unusual features (a little gem salad with soft boiled duck egg). Main courses were also wonderful, and quite large (we ended up with boxes of leftover). A special that night of venison melted in my mouth, my wife’s duck breast was also excellent. Although pretty full we couldn’t resist a dark chocolate mousse, which did not disappoint at all. Service was attentive and we easily made our theater performance (just 3 blocks from Geary and Curran Theaters). be aware that Bouche is on the pricey side, but we were more than happy.
Great little restaurant. Excellent food.
Perfect atmosphere for a quiet date or a group of friends. Food is made with love and authentic. I would highly recommend trying the “adventurous” dish if you are indeed adventurous because it will surprise you every time. Staff is friendly, attentive, and make wonderful suggestions. Highly recommend.
Fantastic from every angle. Service outstanding, food breathtaking.
Love this place!! The staff are lovely & the food is fabulous...great fro preshow dinner date night!
Creative menu and masterful execution of seasonal small and large plates. We so loved the anchoiade appetizer that we made it at home the next day. We also shared the “adventure” appetizer and the lamb sirloin entree. Both were yummy. Loved the accompaniments for the lamb. Texture, flavor, color, food value. Very gifted kitchen.
Whenever I come to San Fransisco I stop at Bouche. Julie and the staff are simply the best. Truly a French experience in food, wine and culture. I am of Italian heritage but feel French when I am there. Yes, try to speak French... they put up with me. The food is some of the best I have ever had. I enjoy every moment.
Wonderful little bistro - one of my best happy places
Few choices on the menu but presented well. Small servings also.
The restaurant is small and the menu is quite limited but the food is very good and the service is excellent.
Very welcoming and fun atmosphere. The upstairs seating area is very cool. The food was great, we enjoyed every bite. The service was awesome...nice people and a lot of fun.
A wonderful experience. Food was delicious and service was amazing.
Everything was super intimate and amazing. The food was superb and the service was very special. We would highly recommend and definitely repeat.
Very intimate experience. Food was amazing. Server also! A hidden gem!
Had to wait 20 minutes even though we had a reservation. It’s busy in the city and I get that. Unfortunately there is nowhere to stand and wait without feeling like you are in the way of the staff, other patrons arrivng and breathing down the necks of diners that are already seated. Although a cute cafe like place, the food was a little too frou frou for us although we both enjoy French restaurants. Just not a place for us.
An incredible experience with delicious food and charming staff. Really though, the food and ambience are amazing!
Overall amazing experience!! Great food, very much like the bistros in Paris! The bone marrow is a must.
Fantastic ambiance! Food was very good, but restaurant provides limited options. Might not be the best place for people who very pick eaters. Loved the "adventure" choice. So much fun.
We ate early one evening before a play (they open at 5:30) and were seated quickly, upstairs per our request on OpenTable. So far, so good.
The servers were uneven with the older gay guy being the best and our female server somewhat disdainful, as if she didn't like her job (or us). Every course was brought to our table opposite of the person who ordered. Either the food runner was bad at his job or our waitress kept getting the positions wrong, since statistically he should have gotten it right at least once out of three tries. Not the end of the world, but noteable.
The food was fine, but the menu is incredibly limited and at times the portions were small. It is a small house (maybe 40 patrons could fit?), so the small menu is understandable, but please be generous with the food. We ordered the mussels and the stinky cheese croquettes to start. The mussels (which one server called moules and others referred to as merely mussels) were exactly 8 on the plate. Hmm. Not nearly good enough when a typical appetizer in the city is at least a 12-16. The croquettes were good (after all, they are fried cheese balls) and were a healthier portion (4 medium sized balls). After seeing the size of the entrees, my husband (who ordered the mussels) ordered another salad.
We ordered the lamb sirloin and the branzino. The lamb was not the best cut with quite a few gristly parts, though it was flavorful and well prepared. The branzino was terrific, though could have used a bit of salt. Both were on the lighter side with the lamb coming only with a cranberry compote and the fish with turnip puree. We ordered the chocolate pot de creme and were satisfied with it.
Given the number of other quality restaurants in San Francisco, I couldn't recommend this one.
This is a very funky, charming French Restaurant. It was our second visit. The last time was a few years ago. It is more polished now than it was then. The food, salad, bread, duck and branzino were all excellent as was the rose. The persimmon dessert was to die for. Our server was outstanding, perfectly attentive and personable. I love the place.
Our service was incredible made our night very special! Our server Ian was incredible and the food so delicious!!
My wife and I went to Bouche for our 36th wedding anniversary and were treated incredibly well. The seating is tight, like a Paris restaurant, so if you don’t like that environment this is not your dinner spot. We loved it.
The food was delicious — the best duck I’ve ever eaten. The service was friendly and fast. Our wait staff recommended wine pairings for both are meals that were perfect. It really was a lovely evening. I’m so glad we found this place and will definitely return.
Classic French food, delivered in a timely manner by totally charming waitstaff. Nice compact wine list at very reasonable prices
Unforgettable evening of delicious food from the Adventurist appetizer to the dessert everything was spot on! The warmth of the staff was also so appreciated. My twelve year old daughter was in heaven and was truly transported to Paris for an evening!
Amazing experience! Great to be in a cozy place where you get served by the French owner-chef! Delicious... everything we had was great. The mussels and the home made terrine where unique!!
Best French restaurant I've been to in San Francisco.
I've not been everywhere, but this is a truly outstanding place. It's small, so you gotta reserve.
Totally worth it. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Oh, and awesome service.
Most beloved and treasured restaurant in my beautiful city. Rare gem that has withstood the test of time. Bisouxxx. 💋
As frequent visitors to San Francisco, we visit many restaurants. So many good ones to choose among! Bouche is always in our frequent rotation of repeats. Food is great! Staff are always fun and interactive. We love to sit at the “chef’s table” (counter) and watch the kitchen work. The new ownership team is building on the great foundation and never disappoints. The lamb was excellent, as was the duck. Succulent, flavorful, imaginative. Outstanding farm to fork food with a French pedigree. A perfect place for foodies to geek out over the food. Or, if you just want accessible (a.k.a., good and reliable) - can’t be beat. Highly recommend.
We have been to Bouche on several occasions, and each one is a treat. On Saturday evening, we went pre-theatre with a friend and her companion, who have spent alot of time in France. She remarked that the atmosphere and set up reminded her of one of her favorite bistros in Paris. Service is great, friendly and prompt. This is an intimate spot, with the tiny kitchen in plain view. Amazing what emerges from that little space. One caveat- the corkage is quite high ($35), which I am sure is designed to encourage you to buy from their well planned wine list. Overall, Bouche is a winner.
