About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Romantic
Bouboulina is an elevated dining experience inspired by Laskarina Bouboulina, the fearless Greek naval commander of the 1821 War of Independence and one of history’s first female admirals. Infused with the spirit of her homeland, Spetses, Greece, and the seafaring essence of her adventurous life on the water, Bouboulina redefines the classic steakhouse. It artfully blends timeless elegance with a moody, modern allure, balancing bold contrasts of light and dark, masculine and feminine. The chef-driven menu celebrates impeccably cooked steaks, complemented by meticulously crafted cocktails, all set within an ambiance of understated sophistication. Nestled in North Bethesda, Bouboulina is the latest visionary concept from the creative minds behind Cava Mezze, Julii, and Melina.

Overall atmosphere of the restaurant is fine, though can get loud despite the furnishings that should absorb the sound level. Perhaps the most disappointing was that the wine list doesn't match the level of the menu items. Given the above average prices of the main dishes, would've expected a better wine list. Realizing that this location in Montgomery County, MD, brings with it inherent county limitations, the list could still be a bit better in quality of wines. Also, hint to management: place your Champagnes under the heading of Sparkling wines, we missed that when we looked at the list. In view of the county-imposed limitations on wine procurement, the restaurant should consider a corkage fee for some of us who might wish to bring our own.

I love the sister restaurants and was excited to try. The totally black room was a vibe. I felt the tableware did not match. The bread price was nuts. I had the salmon that was good with a tasty sauce that mitigated how it was cooked. The steak was good. Salad was good because so many Caesar salads are bad. All good not great. Prices dictate great. BTW not their issue, but why are men wearing old jeans to a supposed high end dining experience. Over half looked like they were on their way to a sporting event.

Excellent service and vibe, makes for a good, exclusive experience in the main dining room. Branzino and the starter bread were our favorites. Overall, food decent, but one note on flavor. Disappointed in the serving sizes for the sides considering the price.

Our server Manu and bartender Avi were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The tuna credo was delightful and the filet mignon was among the best in the area. You must not leave without experiencing the chocolate cake with espresso gelato. It was to die for!

The most memorable thing about our dining experience was how loud the dining room was. We are not old and no one has hearing issues, but we could not hear our dinner mates across the table, it was so loud. I don’t know if it’s because the space is so small? Hope that something can be done to improve that situation. The prices are just way too high for the quality of meal and location of the restaurant. We were just in NYC and were accustomed to these prices for dinner there, but not at Pike and Rose. The food was good, but not at the price point. We enjoyed the bread, caesar salad, NY strip and filet. The baked potato and chocolate dessert were the highlights. The potato comes sitting in some sort of delicious creamy cheesey/buttery sauce. The chocolate cake had the perfect sweet/salty combo.

First time. Will go again. Excellent service. Good food including dishes not typical for the type of restaurant that are worth trying & having again.

I recently dined at Bouboulina to celebrate a special occasion, and overall, it was a fantastic experience. The service was outstanding from start to finish – the staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. As for the food, it did not disappoint. The whole branzino was a standout. Absolutely some of the best we’ve ever had, perfectly cooked and perfect sides to compliment the fish. The wagyu picanha was also very good, though I personally would’ve preferred a bit less char on the exterior, but it was still delicious. The chocolate cake was decadent and indulgent, and definitely a perfect way to end the evening on a sweet note. Overall, I would highly recommend Bouboulina for the impeccable food and service.

I would recommend just going to the bar, grabbing a drink and getting an app. I paid $70 for a NY strip by itself and it wasn’t even that good. I could’ve gotten a cheaper steak at Ruth’s Chris that would’ve been way better. Wanted a baked potato and had to pay an extra $14 because everything is a la carte. They have a tomahawk steak for 2 that’s $160. Insane. I wouldn’t go for a meal again but will definitely swing by for a drink and appetizers. The ambiance and the service was great. That’s what you’re paying for.
