The food is great here, service is fast and wine selection is amazing.
The small plates are not very small. Very nicely seasoned, nothing dull. Excellent service
Small plates were delicious, and the service, while always pleasant, wasn't as rapid and thorough as it could have been. Used plates were removed after asking for it to be done. I'm glad we ate outside, because noise level inside was too high.
Great food and service
We love this small neighborhood restaurant as does everyone else it seems. It is always crowded. Food and service exemplary. Only negative is noise level. Wish we could have anticipated the lively weather the day of our dinner so we could have eaten outside.
Outstanding food and wonderful wait staff. The owner was also present and actively engaged which was appreciated. Wonderful place. Highly recommended.
The food and the service was great. We did have a time towards the end of the dinner when the music seemed to get a bit loud and the the lyrics were explicit which was a bit eyebrow raising as we were at a family dinner with children. But overall was a good experience.
I would recommend on the quality of food, but half of the 6of us were served 15 minutes before the rest of our party. Saturday night would not be the best time.
I always enjoy the food here. I bring new customers each time and have continued to make new fans each time.
We've attended wine pairing dinners (large groups) as well as dined regular style. The food quality is excellent in both formats. Servers are efficient and cordial. There are no bad choices on the menu as far as my taste buds are concerned.
The food was fantastic! Tried the Short Rib Flatbread, the Beet Salad and Bacon Wrapped Dates - would definitely go back. While small, the wine list is quite good. The servers were attentive, but when asked if I wanted another glass of wine, it was assumed I wanted the same I had been drinking and was poured before I could stop her.
This place having come recommended by an acquaintance was a massive disappointment. If you don't know authentic Spanish tapas, and enjoy greasy spoon or fast food this isn't a step up. Will NEVER go back.
We really enjoyed Restaurant Week at Botanero. Their Restaurant Week menu was extensive- was able to select a main dish, and 3 options from the sides/tapas, wine/sangria, and dessert menu. The side dishes were their full sized tapas plates and was a great value. The service was thorough and the flavors of the dishes were delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience.
We didn't realize it was restaurant week. They were super flexible about letting us split up ordering from the restaurant week or regular menu among our party. We all ordered off of the special menu and it was fabulous. Tons of food, each dish more delicious than the next. Highly recommend the scallops, Brussels sprouts, flat breads (we ordered 2 different kinds), caulilini. We sat in the back room and had the place to ourselves for a minute, but even with a crowd to liven things up, we could still easily manage a conversation. Service staff were extremely accommodating. We'll
definitely be back!
We went to Botanero for our wedding anniversary as we had been eyeing the restaurant for some time and decided to take the plunge. We were not disappointed! The appetizers and entrees were perfectly portioned and delicious. We had the tres leches cake for desert and were saddened we didn’t have room for another slice. We were offered a cappuccino to close the evening. Our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive and welcoming. While the meal is of higher caliber, the environment is child friendly and our 3 year old was adequately occupied. We will definitely go back soon! Thank you!
Great food every time we have been there!
The grilled scallops were fabulous, the lamb chops had an exciting “brulee” that made the chops really special, the beet salad was great, the smoked pork belly was good (just a bit too sweet), but the burnt garlic in the flaming shrimp gave the shrimp a nasty taste. An interesting wine list by the glass and a few fun taps. Service was pleasant and prompt. Overall, I’ll be back as soon as I can.
Wonderful hospitality with excellent food. Will certainly visit again.
The food was very good. The small plate selection was very nice. There was good variety on the menu for all tastes and diets. There are gluten-free selections for individuals with gluten-allergies. There is a good selection of flatbreads, vegetable, seafood and meat dishes. We went for lunch, and there is a lunch menu, but you can choice from the dinner menu as well. The restaurant is kind of minimalist and reserved in terms of decor, which is nice in that the decor isn't screaming at you. Noise level was great. A conversation could be had without competing with other distractions. All in all, it was a great meal and experience.
Great food and wonderful service. I do wish they served pita/bread.
This was our first time at Botanero and we had a very pleasant meal. Flatbreads were excellent, the beef short ribs were among the most tender we had ever had. Beet salad was also excellent. Only disappointment was the mussels - not bad, but not outstanding.
Service was excellent, dishes were delivered quickly and the staff was extremely attentive.
We went on a Sunday night and the dining room was pretty crowded, glad we made a reservation. We arrived a little early but were seated promptly. We ordered the scallops, mac and cheese, short rib flatbread, and bacon wrapped dates. Also had a glass of the orange juice based sangria which was delicious. Biggest disappointment was only after we placed our order did our server return to our table to inform us they were out of scallops. We ordered the trout instead. All the food was delicious, the dates were a stand out for me. Service was good, particularly considering how crowded it was. Pretty competitive prices for small plates in the Rockville area.
Generous portions for tapas. Flaming shrimp and beef ribs were excellent. Other dishes a little bland; needs more spices and zest. Good service. Very loud ambiance, hard to have a conversation.
Great food and delicious gluten free options. Will definitely be back.
We eat at Botanero fairly frequently, at least once a month. They never fail to please. And the shortest meal we've enjoyed there was 90 minutes, because it's the kind of place you want to hang out and relax and just take your time. Menu changes up frequently enough to keep it from becoming stale but there are still a quite a few dependable anchor items.
Very good food and service. It was very loud but that's because it was a crowded Friday night. I discovered a much more quite room in the back after already seated for about an hour. If you want a quiet conversation, ask to be seated in the room in the back.
Food was amazing as always. Great and fast service!
We had a nice meal; good flavorful dishes and excellent service. The were a few negatives. The noise level was so horrendously loud it was difficult to have a conversation. It was crowded and we were seated at a table near the bar. We had several women stand against our table with their butts hovering next to our food and flipping their hair all around.
Fabulous food and good service. The beet salad, deviled eggs, bacon-wrapped dates and falafel with feta were amazing and the grilled octopus was to die for.
Great food. Ok service. Prices a bit high. We enjoyed the shrimp, scallops, duck, and seafood medley. The sangria was a bit humid and our waitstaff member seemed to favor high occupancy tables.
Food and drink are very good. Some items are priced a bit high for portion size but overall worth a trip. Seafood dishes are the stars.
Will come back. Every plate was delicious. Waiter was very accommodating and pleasant despite the busy time at the restaurant.
Whoa! Great restaurant in King Farm subdivision. Ample parking by safeway. They have seating inside and outside. Service was very quick, a little too fast for tapas. Every single item was perfection and we ate there on 4th of July.
Downtown restaurant hidden in the suburbs. As a Rocvillian, I appreciate being able to walk in or reserve a table at BotaNero and receive the same treatment, experience, and cuisine that I expect each time I go. I'm always surprised at how flavorful and true to Spanish tapas styling I get from the seasonal and new dishes I try, and I love my go-tos. Can't miss the brussels sprouts or calamari. Brunch on weekends is like brunch in the city. They have 3 house sangria mixes as well as a wide range of wine choices. Mimosas on the weekends, 2 taps with local 7 Locks on one, full bar. Indoor or outdoor seating. It's a small place, but fine for intimate conversation or a larger party. It's not too loud, even though they've got 2 TVs. If you're a dessertie, get the Tres Leches cake. No joke! The bartenders and waitstaff are very friendly, nice, and knowledgable and will help you make solid choices if you're having trouble choosing from either the food or drink menus. I love stopping by casually or having a formal meal here. Super close to Shady Grove Metro, and a lovely walk in King Farm. Meet new friends here or come with a trusted group. Check it out if you've been meaning to.
Far too noisy. We’ll try to go during mild weather in future so we can sit outside. Food was great, other than my husband’s flank steak, which was medium-well rather than medium-rare. Really appreciated waitress advising me on which foods would suit my tastes.
Delightful place with delicious food and sangria at a good price. Don’t miss the paella croquettes !
I loved how this place was not crowded on a Sunday brunch. We were seated immediately. We got to choose outdoor or indoor. We sat outside and when the sun became too strong the waiter was very accommodating and moved us under the shade. He was also very friendly, attentive and very helpful with food and drink recommendations. I loved the steak and eggs and the spinach and bacon quiche! I will definitely return and recommend this place to my friends.
Ceviche and Octopus, crsioy kale salad were soooo delish. Drinks selection was good too.The pork Belly was lacking smoke and "porky" tasting. we almost sent it back but didn't want to give the waitress a hard time and the beans were fine. Empanadas were also well done but would prefer a different sauce that's fresher, not creamy.
Excellent quality food, extensive selection, and timely service. Would have liked the servings to be larger though.
I am from Spain and was craving some Spanish food so drove an hour to go to this establishment. Unfortunately, this was far from traditional Spanish fare.
We ordered charcuterie and the Serrano ham was cut really thick (no!) served with a sort of poppadum cracker, strange pickled vegetables and a sweet pepper relish. The goat cheese ball was filled with everything! Nuts, dried fruit, cocktail onions, chickpeas? Just a really strange combination.. just a plain bit of good goat cheese with a drizzle of olive oil would have sufficed.
With some things the “Keep it simple, keep it safe” strategy is the best way to go. Serve good bread and maybe some olives.
The octopus was tender so was obviously sous vied or braised but lacked more of a char on the grill that would have left the outside nice and crisp. This dish was begging for a piece of lemon to give it the acid kick it needed.
The beef empanadas were good but swimming in oil. Just patting them down with some paper towel before plating would have made a world of difference.
Bare with me, it wasn’t all bad!!!
The establishment was nice and the dining room was busy and had a good vibe to it. We had a reservation but we would have had to wait to sit down so we decided on a table on the patio. This was quiet and very pleasant with nice plants and flowers around. The service was good and all the servers were quick to check in and make sure we didn’t need anything.
The duck confit dish was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented with a tasty sauce and inventive recipe with black olives and delicious mash!
We also had the coconut bread pudding that was very good although it was unevenly heated up with one side hot and the other hard from the chill.
These comments are not meant to deter anyone. These guys are really on the right track, just need to tweak some of the food items because the potential really shined through on some others!
