Deborah and I were in Rockville for the day and our experience at Botanero was memorable. When making the reservation, I requested a table out of the way and the greeter seated us at a window table, perfect for viewing inside and outside and away from most traffic. Our host, Chad, was extremely helpful in describing menu items and making recommendations. The small plates allowed us to try several different foods. Everything was delicious, but the scallops and flaming shrimp were exceptional. Chad also made a great margarita and his wine recommendation was perfect. Botanero is definitely a “must go to”.

Excellent! Bring a sweater though because although the service and hospitality were warm, the temperature was cold. We had the kale salad, short rib flatbread, chicken croquettes, beef empanadas, and the bacon wrapped dates. All were delicious! Hard to choose a favorite, but I think they were the dates and the flatbread. Sauces to accompany everything were flavorful. Portions for tapas were generous—especially the flatbread and the salad! Red Bandito cocktail and the gin cocktail with lavender were creative and much enjoyed. We were in the front room which was lively but not overly noisy. Would highly recommend. Glad we made a reservation. We went early (6:15) but it was bustling about 10 minutes after our arrival.

First time in this eclectic eatery for us, the experience was positive. For the most part, the plates were perfect portions for the two of us and the pricing about right. I thought the octopus, which other reviews raved about, while gorgeous to look at and tasty, was a little short on the actual octopus...little overcooked coins amongst the lentils. I'm more accustomed to a charred, tender leg presentation. We'll be back for another try.

We just returned from Barcelona and wanted to find a tapas experience nearby. Botanero was great in the authenticity of food combined with a fantastic dining experience. The wait staff is very very good! The Beef Empanada is not good, everything else was stellar.

Disaster…… Haven’t been here since December and very confused about how did this establishment go from very good to trash, or maybe I caught them on a bad day. Had a gut feeling to book elsewhere the same day which was weird, I didn’t follow through, we got there and we were placed at a semi messy table that already had water glasses prepared which we had questions about because it wasn’t like that before when we booked here so of course, we requested for new glasses and water just judging from the so called setup. Now, down to the ordering process, our server was extremely slow like very slow, sad enough, our food came out almost 40 mins later, I had the steak and eggs but requested for scrambled eggs with cheese instead of sunny side up, my eggs were the epitome of bland and didn’t have any cheese, my steak? Smh, terrible, no flavor whatsoever, dry and tough even though I asked for medium well. My date chicken and waffles also was lacking flavor, the chicken to be exact, The mimosas? TRASH! we both had mango, peach and orange, none had any flavor of fruit. The Beignets were tough to eat like they were deep fried and burnt, I’m unsure if they changed chefs and bartenders but something was off, this definitely wasn’t the same experience from the first 3 visits, Doubt if I ever come back to dine here .

Botanero never disappoints! The food is consistently fantastic. Lots of small plate options that accommodates different preferences (meat, fish, vegetables). Good beer and wine selection as well as fun seasonal cocktails. Great place for a group gathering so lots of small plates can be tasted.

Even as a vegetarian, I was able to try and enjoy the variety of dishes available. Loved trying so many different and very tasty dishes. Our waiter was very helpful when we found ourselves in need of help deciding the different dishes to order.

Food was great - However it was not paced well and came out all at once. Music was on repeat so the same song played OVER and OVER again. We were in the back room. I like the front room better.

Food was good (flaming shrimp was awesome, pork belly was meh). Server was nice, but everything took a long time. We wanted second drinks and were done with all of our food before he came back over to even offer, and then it took another 10+ minutes to get a cocktail menu, put in an order, and get the drinks.

Went Fathers Day. Service was slow due to the restaurant reserving a party of 18 and not enough staff. Cook was busy with this large table which slows down food for the rest of the restaurant. Due to this large party it took a long time for drinks and food to arrive. Will try again but not on a holiday or fathers/mothers day.

We used to love coming here but the past few times, the service has really gone downhill. Tonight was the worst and we’ll need to take a break. Took 15 minutes to get greeted and water to our table. A very loud party at the bar was practically sitting on our table so I asked our server if we could move a table over to give the bar room. She moved us and said she’ll be right back and we were forgotten about. Sitting practically in front of the hostess stand. After another 15 minutes of completely being ignored, I approached the hostess who seemed totally surprised. A manager eventually came over, no apologies, and took our order. Drinks showed halfway through our meal. Honestly, the only reliably good thing there is the cocktails. Otherwise, the food is inconsistent and the service is fair to poor. Really disappointing. Was a cute neighborhood spot.

We got there at 11am and had a choice of choosing from a brunch menu or the regular menu. We opted for the brunch menu and it wasn’t the best choice. My plate was ok, which was crab Benedict but my mom’s plate was not good. The restaurant took the plate back and didn’t charge us. I hope the next time will be better.
