The food was delicious! I ordered the Brussels sprouts, oysters, muscles and the surf and turf paella was very tasty. The staff was friendly and the food came out pretty quick. Will come again!
Excellent food and great service!
Our Server, Michael, was delightful. Prompt, courteous, engaging. The service was good.
Unfortunately, the food was not. The taste, temperature and texture of the dishes
were that of premade and reheated food. The pear confit salad had under-ripe pears and lacked flavor. Conversely, the paella was overly smoky with rubbery meats.
The patatas bravas which should have been crispy were soggy and the meatballs tough and luke warm in the center.
But our server was really lovely.
Our waiter was great but he was the only one. Very loud group behind us. Disrupted the entire restaurant a couple of times.
During our particular visit, the restaurant seemed understaffed for the amount of reservations and dining guests. We were met with a frantic host, who was rushing to accommodate reservations, with no help (I felt for the guy). When it was our turn to be seated, we were walked into a separate section of the restaurant into what seemed like the bar of a hotel lobby (called European bar); there we were met with a bartender that also seemed to be juggling and trying (but failing) to accommodate several drink orders and host individuals who were sitting in his area, all the while no music playing and you could overhear neighboring parties conversations, who were also taken aback with the sub par service that day. When our order was finally taken (we waited for 30 min) we were told the paella would take anywhere from 30-40 minutes to be made. We finally settled on two tapa plates and both were very good, but overall the experience was below satisfactory from start to finish.
The place is really cute and the food was very good. Our server was fine. HOWEVER there was another server who was literally running around, frantic. The floors shook, silverware rattled. The chefs tried to talk to him we think, but nothing changed. He was such a huge distraction that all of the diners where looking at each other like what the heck is going on. We wanted to try a dessert but decided to go somewhere else because he was such a distraction. I know it is hard right now to find help and they did seem understaffed, but this behavior made dining there unpleasant. If we were local, we would not return.
Any place that serves $100+ should not serve paper napkins . The food was average at best. The charcuterie platter combo left a lot to be desired our waiter had no idea what the meats were . They were out of the ox tails . If an item is unavailable they should tell you up front not after you order it. They removed our sharing plates before we were finished with one of our tapas. Overall disappointed.
Get the Seafood Paella. So fresh and not too salty! Great value for the price.
Horrible service. Food was dry and not very tasty. Very expensive
We went to Bota on a trip to San Francisco for a birthday. We wanted a nice place to relax and get an early dinner. The shishito peppers and the roasted potatoes tapas were amazing and well worth the visit. On a second visit we would probably focus on the tapas. We chose the chicken paella which was not the right selection. I guess u just can’t replace the genuine seafood paella with chicken.
In return for a $200 dinner…We were greeted with lackluster interest, seated at a sticky and dirty table (never offered to clean it) even poorer service throughout the meal, food was brought in confusing order, ZERO eye contact from our server the entire time, bare minimum of interaction, ordered a sprite (I know, I know) and it was plopped down on the table in all its glory as a can dripping water and a straw, no glass with ice..nada. Whenever I tried to be nice and thank her she replied EVERY TIME with “uh,huh.” And at the end she asked us [again, no eye contact) “Do you want the check?” What were we supposed to answer to that? I wanted to say, actually….no, you owe US in my opinion….And the food was all overly salty but adequate. So, a stellar experience was not had and there’s NO WAY I would give this restaurant a recommendation or return ourselves. One and done as they say. Truly disappointing on our trip to SF. Bummer.
Serving staff was very friendly and the tapas and paella delicious :-)
A great “hole in the wall”. The garlic prawns and wrapped dates were outstanding!! A little disappointing that there was no sherry on offer but just substituted with a Spanish old fashioned. Mmmm.
Great wine and tapas. Beautiful interior decor.
Food wasn’t great especially for the price - it’s also a hotel restaurant. The paella was bland and the Brussels sprouts were over fried
Don’t waste your time or money junk wonderful service
Food was lackluster. Our server only had two tables and switched our tab with the other table. How did this happen? Idk. But we were charged $25 more than what we purchased.
Was roaming the city with my husband and we wanted to try something new to share. The papas bravas were a nice tapa while we waited for the yummy seafood paella!
Great Paella. We had the vegetarian
Our waiter Michael overall did an amazing job he was very friendly and prompt with his service. The tapas were all very flavorful and authentic. Paella takes 30 minutes so order early and request the burnt rice on the bottom of the pan for a truly authentic paella. The seafood soup was basically water with seafood. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no flavor in the stock.
The food was absolutely amazing!! Our favorite was the Secreto Iberico! I could have eaten that and nothing else!! We also had the Carmel filled Churros with chocolate dipping sauce!!
We will definitely go back the next time we are in San Francisco!!
Great food and service!!
All in all we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The food was delicious, the wine selection small but we all found some tasty wines. The service was excellent.I took a chance on this place and was really pleased with the whole experience, and so were my friends.
Food was good but overpriced
The seafood paella was meh. Not much seafood for the price, bland, unimpressive.
The tapas where very good but the meat paella not so much. Overall, good attention and a nice cozy place.
Place was empty in a mid-afternoon. Service was apathetic. Never came back to check on us. Acted like she wanted to be anywhere else. Food was okay, nothing great. Maybe the server prejudiced a little against the food.
Great tapas! We wanted the red wine sangria but they ran out! So we had the white wine one. Great selection of tapas and fun to share with friends!
I’ve been here several times. Love the space, and service is always good.
Food is tasty as always, but the Brussels sprouts and the grilled octopus were a bit too salty.
Loved the ox tail, potatas bravas, and charcuterie board with chorizo. Great Spanish wine. While many Spanish restaurants are wine and beer only, bota does cocktails as well. SF downtown pricing, but not high priced. I keep coming back, and recommend it!
Excellent food. Amazing presentation
Food was excellent and so was the service! Highly recommend.
This was a perfect dinner for 6 for my mother’s birthday. Food, drinks, service all great. More, it was a fun ambiance. Highly recommend, with perfect service: professional, attentive, with personality and not at all intrusive. We had a great time which is what going out is about!
Highly recommend for hosting business or family.
Had lunch at this place, we were the first customers in, so while I said the noise level was good, can't really say what it would be like with a full house. We had the garlic shrimp, the chicken cannoli, bacon-wrapped dates, and the brussel sprouts. All were excellent and we would both happily go there again!
The cocktails are delicious but the food lacks flavor. I wouldn’t go back.
Service is horrible, it’s obvious they want you in and out. Food was average at best. Too many better options in town to even consider this place.
Just delicious. Casually elegant, unfussy. Good service: we always had what we needed. I'll be back. A little more spendy than I expected, but worth it.
Food was very good and the pitcher of Sangria is an excellent value.
Food was outstanding, the drinks were good but not as outstanding as the food. Ox tail, grilled octopus, and paella are must gets!
