Nice tapas. Can get very noisy when groups gather. Service was reasonably good. Had the seafood paella which was somewhat plain in flavor. The bacon wrapped dates and the meatball tapas were tasty.
First time at Bota's. Two friends and I arrived early, but by the time we left @ 7:30pm on a Friday, the place was busy and energetic. EXCELLENT service from our Server, Keith! Food and value was EXCELLENT. We ordered the Patatas Bravas tapas, the Small Seafood Paella and shared a dessert.
We often eat at Bota prior to attending ACT. We go often enough that the staff recognizes us and welcomes us back. That is a nice feeling at a restaurant. The food is consistently good. The presentations are quite creative and beautiful . Usually have Paella, which in the past was pretty ordinary, but this time was very good. It was too salty, but that may have been from the sausage in the one we ordered. It is generally only somewhat busy and I am surprised it is not busier. We have brought friends here on our trips to ACT and they all enjoyed it.
i came there for the paella. but i was dissapointed. the paella that we have is bland and its not worth the $60 that we paid for. but other wise the garlic shrimp is good and the olives.
Good healthy good choices. Wonderful, pleasant service
Really pleased with the space, the ambience, service and most importantly the quality of the meal. Paella was excellent. Decent wine list too.
Had breakfast there and neither of us could finish our meals. These were so greasy they were impossible to eat. Really a shame, but you should stay away from their breakfasts.
I think the food is too greasy. Our cuisine is truly not that way. The paella we’ve had the last time we were here (we wanted to give the restaurant a second chance) was awful, extremely dry and tasteless.
As a true spaniard, I don’t recommend this place. There are tons of better choices in the city.
Everything we ordered was amazing. Was tempted to order more but was too stuffed. Would definitely come back and try other items.
Wonderful place for quick bites or if you order several you can make an excellent meal!
Awesome food and service
Service was slow and not very responsive. Ordered the paella and was told it would be 35-40 minutes. Ordered some tapas to help with the long wait time. Ordered the bacon wrapped dates and the meatballs. Both $14.00 each. Received 4 small dates and 3 small meatballs. Are you crazy with those prices?!?!
They weren’t worth $14.00. $8.00 max for the size of them.
Excellent food and service but very noisy and air conditioning was broken so it felt suffocating.
Very good selection of tapas
What a shame. Service, location and ambiance are excellent. The paella fails though. The people making it have been to Mexico, but never Spain. Another restaurant leaving the cooking to who they can employ at the lowest pay possible and it shows in the food.
I have to say that we were really looking forward to the meal. The cold salted cod salad was delicious. The Brussels sprouts lacked flavor, needed more salt and other seasoning. The Paella was the worst we have ever had. It wasn’t bad, it was just bland. Very disappointed.
The seafood paella was over cooked and pretty blend. We went there for a birthday meal and we didn’t get any special service. We made a reservation in advance to celebrate our Anniversary. The floor staff didn’t seem to care. Very quiet and kept pouring us water that was quite annoying. The waitress served us a beer that was not fully poured. Overall, it was overly priced and unwelcoming experience. I wouldn’t go back there.
Great location to grab a lunch or dinner. We went early afternoon to avoid the dinner rush as we heard it was popular. The menu was very nice but lacked children’s options. We had 4 tapas plates and they were nice. It’s on the more expensive side but we enjoyed it.
It was awesome. Our waitress was patient and knowledgeable about Spanish wines. Highly recommended
We Sampled a good portion of the menu and everything was excellent. The roasted peppers, lambchops and rabbit paella were crave-worthy.
Great experience! Food was amazing and service was superb.
Troppo costoso rispetto alle quantità. Bello il locale, buono il servizio. Poca scelta e prezzi eccessivi.
Quality of service and food ok, but local extremely noisy!
The vegetable appetizers could have had some more flavor. The Seafood paella was reminiscent of eating seaside in Barcelona Spain
The food was good, but the Tapas selection is a bit short compared to other tapas restaurants. Our server was attentive and friendly. This is a good choice if you’re staying in the Union Square neighborhood, but it wasn’t outstanding as far as tapas restaurants go.
Bota has Delicious food and provides good value - ordered five different tapas to share among a party of four; everything was delicious and we were more than satisfied. The red sangria and the tarta de Santiago (desert) were particularly outstanding. Great service and recommendations by Keith. Didn’t have time for paella, but looking forward to the rabbit one next time! BTW - we noticed there were multiple Spanish customers there, always a good sign. :-)
The staff was great. We were seated half hour before our reservation with no problem. We were given more bread to soak up the delicious sauce from the garlic prawns when they saw us enjoying it. The octopus was done perfectly. Typical SF prices but this time it was money well spent. Next time we will order the paella.
Had an issue with service. Food was good here, but not good enough to ever make us return.
I am no expert, but I didn’t think that the food was to die for, but it was fairly good. Beer selection was scarce. The service was fenomenal and that made it all worthwhile
Good food and service.
Limited menu for a tapas place
We gave this place a second try. The food just isn’t very good. At best, it’s forgettable which is upsetting cause we really wanted to love this place. The vibe and service is great though so maybe good for a drink and some patatas bravas (which is actually great).
I wanted to like this place more, but it just kept missing the mark.
The decor and interior needed a makeover, or any real decoration at all for some ambiance. It wouldn’t take much effort at all.
The same goes for the food. We had the vegetarian paella, and while the flavor was good, the rice was very dry and even burnt in too many spots. It was still enjoyable, but could have been a great meal with just a little more care. Our appetizer tasted good too, but the presentation also wasn’t very appetizing.
I’d give this place a another try, but probably only one more try.
Foods are just amazing.
Delicious Spanish food. Great service. Favorite dish was sea bass, bacon wrapped dates, Brussels sprouts, paella.
Sat in crowded area in back. Service was okay though server did not speak Spanish or know the menu well.
Ambience was okay.
Food was good not great.
Amazing paella and sangria
There is nothing worse then getting to a place and being told the kitchen is closing and you have to rush to order. It’s a tapas place. We wanted a few more dishes and the kitchen was closed. If you are going to take a 930 reservation plan on taking care of those guests or let them know ahead of time when the kitchen closes. Won’t ever go back.
We had reserved for 9.45 pm and we arrived earlier, at 9.30. The host at the entrance told us that the kitchen had closed (!), but when we insisted that we had a reservation she unwillingly let us in. The waitress that served us seemed annoyed as well with our presence. The food was excellent though. Service has to be improved in this place. Professionalism is not merely needed, but demanded in restauration.
Great paella and tapas! We asked for hot sauce to crank up the heat on the seafood paella and it was so delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were also fantastic! And they have air conditioning which was great for the unseasonably 90+ weather we experienced (we found out not all restaurants in SF have AC).
