Quality of service and food ok, but local extremely noisy!
The vegetable appetizers could have had some more flavor. The Seafood paella was reminiscent of eating seaside in Barcelona Spain
The food was good, but the Tapas selection is a bit short compared to other tapas restaurants. Our server was attentive and friendly. This is a good choice if you’re staying in the Union Square neighborhood, but it wasn’t outstanding as far as tapas restaurants go.
Bota has Delicious food and provides good value - ordered five different tapas to share among a party of four; everything was delicious and we were more than satisfied. The red sangria and the tarta de Santiago (desert) were particularly outstanding. Great service and recommendations by Keith. Didn’t have time for paella, but looking forward to the rabbit one next time! BTW - we noticed there were multiple Spanish customers there, always a good sign. :-)
The staff was great. We were seated half hour before our reservation with no problem. We were given more bread to soak up the delicious sauce from the garlic prawns when they saw us enjoying it. The octopus was done perfectly. Typical SF prices but this time it was money well spent. Next time we will order the paella.
Had an issue with service. Food was good here, but not good enough to ever make us return.
I am no expert, but I didn’t think that the food was to die for, but it was fairly good. Beer selection was scarce. The service was fenomenal and that made it all worthwhile
Good food and service.
Limited menu for a tapas place
We gave this place a second try. The food just isn’t very good. At best, it’s forgettable which is upsetting cause we really wanted to love this place. The vibe and service is great though so maybe good for a drink and some patatas bravas (which is actually great).
I wanted to like this place more, but it just kept missing the mark.
The decor and interior needed a makeover, or any real decoration at all for some ambiance. It wouldn’t take much effort at all.
The same goes for the food. We had the vegetarian paella, and while the flavor was good, the rice was very dry and even burnt in too many spots. It was still enjoyable, but could have been a great meal with just a little more care. Our appetizer tasted good too, but the presentation also wasn’t very appetizing.
I’d give this place a another try, but probably only one more try.
Foods are just amazing.
Delicious Spanish food. Great service. Favorite dish was sea bass, bacon wrapped dates, Brussels sprouts, paella.
Sat in crowded area in back. Service was okay though server did not speak Spanish or know the menu well.
Ambience was okay.
Food was good not great.
Amazing paella and sangria
There is nothing worse then getting to a place and being told the kitchen is closing and you have to rush to order. It’s a tapas place. We wanted a few more dishes and the kitchen was closed. If you are going to take a 930 reservation plan on taking care of those guests or let them know ahead of time when the kitchen closes. Won’t ever go back.
We had reserved for 9.45 pm and we arrived earlier, at 9.30. The host at the entrance told us that the kitchen had closed (!), but when we insisted that we had a reservation she unwillingly let us in. The waitress that served us seemed annoyed as well with our presence. The food was excellent though. Service has to be improved in this place. Professionalism is not merely needed, but demanded in restauration.
Great paella and tapas! We asked for hot sauce to crank up the heat on the seafood paella and it was so delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were also fantastic! And they have air conditioning which was great for the unseasonably 90+ weather we experienced (we found out not all restaurants in SF have AC).
This was our first dinner at bota. It was a great choice for a light pre-theater meal -- delicious, reasonably priced, with great service and a nice atmosphere, plus convenient and quick. We'll be back.
Service was excellent and our waitress was helpful in determining the amount of tapas we should order. We loved the mussels, the Iberian pork and lamb chops. All our dishes were good but the ones mentioned stood out for us. Will definitely come back
Everything from the food, service, decor, and drinks was fantastic. Had a great time coming here with my wife and parents. Would absolutely come back. I recommend the bacon wrapped dates.
It was my birthday dinner and I was so incredibly impressed by our food and service!
Excellent food with a wide variety of dishes. The service was good. Only downside was the very high noise level
Great option for dining near the theater.
Second time back and was disappointed. Paella was very over cooked.
I stumbled upon this restaurant on Open Table. I thought it was a different place that I had remembered but was pleasantly surprised once having been seated. The hostess was very helpful especially since I changed the number of people at least twice and then again once we were seated. We were all accommodated with good graces and a helping hand. Our server, Keith, was spectacular in every respect. From adding chairs and place settings, helping with tapas and paella choices, to great advice on the wine, he couldn't have nicer or more helpful. He's one of the reasons we would all comeback. The food was excellent as well, although I would have liked a little more chorizo in the surf & turf paella to spice it up a bit more. The portions were plentiful and I'm planing on getting back to taste more of the options on the menu.
We had a Mother’s Day lunch in this restaurant. Everyone enjoyed the foods and appreciated the service provided by the waitress. I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Delicious tapas, good wine, excellent and timely service. Right across the street from the Curran Theatre. Not noisy. Definitely go again.
The food was good but overpriced, and the service was indifferent. I had to ask again for my glass of wine, since my food arrived before it did.
Great food and service.
We had lunch on a Saturday, the place was not busy. Food was amazing. Strongly recommend the jamon and garlic prawns
Great restaurant with one of the best waiters I have had at any restaurant. Food was great as well as the wine. Only complaint would be the neighborhood. It’s basically TL which I try to avoid like the plague
Were able to order, eat, and pay in less than one hour (we were attending a show nearby). We enjoyed both cocktails, but the SpanishOldFashioned (orange liquor) was great! We shared a vegetable paella, and although not as crispy as we expected, very well-flavored. The olives (soaked olive oil, which was useful with the bread), fresh bread, and salad were very good. Not noisy. Comfortable chairs and a clean bathroom. Super convenient to the Curran and Marines theaters.
Seafood paella is a 6.5/10 when compared with other Spanish Restaurants
Garlic shrimp was best dish
Brussels sprouts were good
Chicken cannelloni and meatball dishes were too cheesy and rich
Servers were pleasant, friendly
Food was served in a timely fashion and was hot
This was our second visit
Restaurant is nice, convenient to theater but a bit overpriced for quality of food and ambience
We will return and order more carefully
Thanks for the vegan options!!!
Surprisingly quiet, but it was a Monday night. Great paella and tapas - we were very satisfied. Also had a pitcher of red sangria, which was also good.
Although we mentioned a birthday when we reserved and told our server Keith that we wanted a chocolate dessert as a surprise, it was forgotten.
The cheese plate was sparse compared to the price of $18. The vegetable paella was good
Bota Tapas & Paella provided a fun evening for our party of 4. Service was prompt and courteous. We had multiple small plates (Oh! The bacon wrapped dates!) and Surf N' Turf Paella (which was prepared exactly as it should be. I will happily return.
The paella was delicious and authentic. Regular size was perfect for 2-3. We really enjoyed the shishito peppers and brussel sprouts tapas. Nice experience far from home.
Nice selection of paella’s, but we just wanted tapas. The tapas selection was quite limited. We dined early to get to the theater. The restaurant was very empty and “dead”.
Perfect Pre-Show stop!
We were late but Bota was gracious and our server with a man bun was adorable, proficient, and got us out at our noted time despite our lateness. Will go again anytime I'm downtown!
