Paella was dry but everything else was good
Warm, caring staff. Consistently good results. Check our food bar for one person paella option.
The food was excellent and authentic. The smoked oysters were served in a glass container filled with smoke - quite a presentation. The patatas bravas were spicy and some of the best I’ve had in the US
I’ve been to Bota several times. This visit we had the grilled octopus and squid ink paella. The octopus is a big tentacle grilled to tender perfection, comes with potatoes cooked with onions and a dollop of lemony foam to give zest to the octopus. I can definitely see this as a quick meal with a glass of sangria. The squid ink paella with added prawns for a nominal price (because I needed something more than squid) came to the table steamy hot. The presentation made for a pretty picture with the squid tentacles, prawns and edible flower petals. The rice is perfectly cooked. The dessert of churros was just ok.
Our server worked a busy dining room and managed attentive service.
The paella is fabulous. Love the bacon-wrapped dates, potatoes, lamb chops.
We were there! A little late but we made our reservation- please accept our apologies for being late: we just finished work!
Nice place with good food and reasonable pricing for San Francisco circumstances.
Food was amazing! Everything was delicious. The octopus, paella, shrimp, brussel sprouts, head high wine...all great. Service was also wonderful. Entire staff was very nice.
Went for the vegetarian paella, which was pretty basic and bland.
Paella was pricey and overcooked. Tapas were good.
We recently had lunch on a Saturday and had a fabulous experience! The decor is hip and fun. The food was delicious (we tried two small plates and the vegetarian paella) and the service was fantastic. We also had a pitcher of the red wine sangria which is reason enough to return - yummy! We'll be back soon!
Date night with the wife was a great experience. Paella was good, Octopus was good, overall good enough to bring us back to the place.
Great spot to eat near San Francisco's famous Union Square. I would however prefer that the food I eat be well seasoned. But the environment, presentation, and service are well worth it. Great place for tapas. Just know it is a little pricey for this type of food.
Nice array of options. The grilled octopus was very good.
Great seafood paella & tapas. Loved the stuffed dates.
Stopped by here before Hamilton at the Orpheum and couldn’t be more disappointed. Skipped the wine because a bottle I can buy for $12 was marked up to $96, so we went with the Sangria. The Sangria did not taste good, like either mixed with a bad bottle of wine or fruit was not fresh. Needless to say we should have tried it before ordering a pitcher. The patatas bravas were ok, but not what you would expect. No flavor on either of the sauces. Meat paella was the most disappointing. Rice tasted like a Spanish Rice-a-Roni mix and the chicken had absolutely no flavor. The chorizo was the only thing somewhat memorable in the dish. Service was great and friendly and the ambiance was great. Also very close to the Curran Theatre, but if you are looking for good Spanish food, try elsewhere in the city. Coqueta puts this place to shame.
Great service good food. Not crowded at first
The food was pretty good (although the meatballs and paella were a bit dry), but the service wasn't great. It felt like they were understaffed on a big day, which led to asking for water multiple times and never actually getting any.
We were in San Fran for business and picked bota tapas because we like Spanish tapas and we live in Asheville where one Curate is located - one of the best tapas restaurants in the US.
Bota tapas is small and can get loud.
We shared the Padron Peppers, Garlic Prawns, Steamed Mussels and the Secreto Iberico - everything was really delicious. For dessert we had two flavors of ice cream - I remember one was coconut, sorry I don't the second - made locally and very good.
Great wine list, we had a bottle of Carlos Serres Gran Reserva - very yummy!
The service was great! Attentive without being intrusive.
We like it so much we went twice!
I’ve been to BOTA a few times already and alternate between tapas only meal and one with paella. This time we had the patatas bravas, iberico meat balls, chicken canalone, garlic prawns and the Star of the night - octopus with potatoes. The simply seasoned tentacle is tender from base to tip. The potato is boiled, lightly seasoned to perfectly accompany the octopus. Ended the meal with a wonderful salted caramel ice cream.
Already planning next visit to have a paella.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for paella based on the seafood paella. It lacked flavor and the rice was mushy, not crunchy at the bottom, like you'd normally expect from a paella. The appetizer chicken was not worth the $12 price tag. It was mostly breading.
The seafood paella was probably one of the best I've had! The shared steak was cooked to perfection and the pureed potatoes were unbelievably delicious! Our server was super attentive and helpful with the menu items. I look forward to dining here again next time I'm in town.
We loved Bota!
Our server was great. He made great recommendation on food and wine.
We have a great tapas restaurant in Asheville called Cúrate so we wanted to experience other great tapas and Bota exceeded our expectations
The pork is grilled and a must have. Prawns were great, mussels were great and we loved the dates and bacon. Our least favorite was the pedron peppers, they were tasty, I like mine crisper.
The small tables are very close and the noise level can get high as there is nothing to absorb the sound. Don’t let that stop you from going.
The food is really good and service attentive without being annoying.
The food did come out quickly. The pacing could be a bit better. I’m sure if you asked for some time between selections they would work with you. It didn’t deter from our enjoyment and we will definitely go back.
40 min wait for cold food. Waiter had 2 tables but had to do room service. No coffee, no water. I wouldn't recommend.
We've had better paella, but it all depends on what you're used to. The brussels appetizers were quite yummy! Molly our server was very, very good & attentive!
Wonderful food and friendly staff. Enjoyed the paella and the sangria. Lots of gluten free options!
Great tapas phenomenal cocktails. The aquilla pepper was the best thing on the menu. They really should take chicken finger pf the meni and find balance in their dishes.
Enjoyed my meal and service overall and would definately return.
Also those brussel sprouts were absoulutely disgusting. Please solve it.
This restaurant is on the slightly pricey side for the portions but worth it for a nice outing. We really enjoyed the tapas (Brussel sprouts, dates, and mussels)! much more than the surf n turf paella. The paella was okkk-For the price and what they focus on we expected much more and have had better.
Service was great- our waiter was super nice and helpful.
Ambiance was also really lovely.
I’d come back!
Great Paella. Service was personal and pleasant. Went before the theater and it made for a perfect evening
Based on the fantastic reviews, I booked Sunday brunch here. Unfortunately Sunday breakfast is hotel breakfast with a slight Spanish tilt and based on the problems with our orders, I’m guessing it’s a different kitchen staff as well.
Still eager to try for dinner but recommend skipping for breakfast.
We came at 8, which maybe early and the place was quiet. Had tapas- well executed patatas bravas, lamb chops, lovely spiced olives. The oxtail with prawn was very flavorful and the cheese plate too large for 2. Place needs more wine by the glass choices.
Delicious Paella! Just moist enough, a bit of that yummy crustiness on the edge, great ingredients (had the Surf n' Turf). Stuffed dates and meatballs were also fabulous.
I already have recommended it to a friend. The food was very good, just remember if you want Paella you need to allow extra time. Our server was incredibly nice and gave us outstanding service. We will definitely be coming back.
Authentic and delicious, very friendly service. Will return.
We were in town for a business conference and grabbed dinner afterwards. The food was excellent, with good serving sizes—we didn’t end up so full. The drink menu was great, and I loved the Cava with dinner. Beautiful atmosphere!
This is a great restaurant and I eat here every time I am in San Francisco. Food is outstanding, wine selection excellent and service consistently great.
We had great service by Keith, the recommendations he made he fantastic.
Food and wine were very good.
Great food and service. Good for anything from two people to a large crowd.
Out tapas were very good and service was efficient and quick.
Great New Year’s experience
