The food was yummy. My only issue was that I wished there were more veggie-based tapas...we had a vegetarian in our group and their options were limited. The potatoes plate was stellar, so I have confidence you guys can expand this part of your menu!! We ate the squid ink paella, yummy, but be prepared to have your teeth darken because the dish is saturated black in ink. We also ordered 8 tapas for four people and this filled us nicely. The raw oysters were superbly fresh. The tapas plates were big enough that each of us could taste everything. The cold tomato soup - excellent. Jamon with tomato paste, wow! We'll be back to try other paellas!
Great spot to eat in between parts of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
We went for lunch on a Monday, the server was nice and attentive but he wasn't sure what the specials were and told us the daily paella was "meat" which is fair enough but I think a little more than a one word description would be nice. Another thing that we noticed is that the silverware was dirty which is unfortunate we just swapped it with a different set from a different table next to us.
The food was really good! we had the Tortilla, the Spanish sandwich, the patatas bravas and 3 glasses of the wine by the glass, the tempranillo and the albarino.
the restaurant is really pretty and welcoming, we'll definitely go back!
ps. I would add the lunch menu to the website but I understand lunch service is very new so it's probably in the works.
Great place for a business dinner.
Loved the paella and warmed olives!
Love this place! Just had tapas-the octopus was outstanding.
Delicious! Noise level was too much though. I had to strain to hear and had to shout during the meal.
Great small plates. Paella was good, not great.
I was disappointed with the seafood paella. My wife liked it. desserts were good. potato appetizer good, not so much the octopus.
The paella seemed like last night's leftovers. It wasn't wonderful. The rabbit sandwich was better because they used great bread which was the best part, but a sandwich is still only a sandwich.
Why bother making a reservation if they are going to inform me that the table will take 20 minutes? They need to fix the process.
Paella rice was too mushy but the seafood In it was plentiful and cooked well. Red Sangria was fair. Olives were really good. Brussel sprouts were good too.
Food was pretty oily and overly salty. Slow service that seemed understaffed. Overpriced, even for San Francisco
We lucked out finding this place a couple blocks from our hotel. Split 3 tapas and a paella- yum yum. Loved everything we tried. Wait staff was great. I’ll be back to SFO next month & I will definitely be back to Bota!
Great place for a pre-theater dinner! The food is fantastic!
To be fair it seemed like they were severely understaffed. We ordered 4 tapas to share and it took nearly 35 minutes to get this small plates. The server didn’t check on us at all after taking our order. The food itself was good once it arrived. And again, for the sake of fairness the staff was really hustling to get the food out as quickly as possible (we were seated right next to the open kitchen). Actually, our server was the only one without a sense of urgency. The chef was clearing tables and the hostess was running food. I appreciate the hustle. I just wish the service had been better.
Good, quality food with variety. The presentation was beautiful.
I was disappointed. Had been here 2 years ago and the Paella was excellent then. Now it can hardly be called paella just saffron rice with fish. The distinction is it lacked the crunchy rice that cooks in the bottom of the Paella pan. While it was had lots if shrimp, mussels and chorizo it lacked flavor. For $52 for the regular portion (they also have a larger portion) they should get it right.
Great experience. Delicious food and great service. Bacon wrapped dates, seafood paella for 4 people. Recommend.
Above average Tapas in small portions.
I made a breakfast reservation for 10 people for a business group. The only waitress/hostess working that day didn’t know about our reservation when I arrived, and made us sit for so long without service that one member of my party had to get up and leave without eating. They were severely understaffed and couldn’t even get coffee to us for at least 45 minutes. The food was good and the waitress was pleasant but the service was terrible.
We had a wonderful dinner !!
Fantastic birthday !
Food was delicious and service was top notch !
The service was great. Our waitress was helpful and knowledgeable. My friend didn't feel well (not from the food) after we left the restaurant and I went back to ask for a cup of hot tea for her and the staff was extremely helpful. My only compliant is that the noise level can get really bad. The table next to us was extremely loud and the room sort of contains the noise. Our ears were kind of hurting after the meal.
Excellent food and service. We had the vegetarian paella and some tapas. It was great.
Nice tapas. Can get very noisy when groups gather. Service was reasonably good. Had the seafood paella which was somewhat plain in flavor. The bacon wrapped dates and the meatball tapas were tasty.
It was just the two of us, we had a couple of the appitizer plates then the seafood paella, everything was scrumptious. Left no room for dessert, but maybe next time.
First time at Bota's. Two friends and I arrived early, but by the time we left @ 7:30pm on a Friday, the place was busy and energetic. EXCELLENT service from our Server, Keith! Food and value was EXCELLENT. We ordered the Patatas Bravas tapas, the Small Seafood Paella and shared a dessert.
We often eat at Bota prior to attending ACT. We go often enough that the staff recognizes us and welcomes us back. That is a nice feeling at a restaurant. The food is consistently good. The presentations are quite creative and beautiful . Usually have Paella, which in the past was pretty ordinary, but this time was very good. It was too salty, but that may have been from the sausage in the one we ordered. It is generally only somewhat busy and I am surprised it is not busier. We have brought friends here on our trips to ACT and they all enjoyed it.
i came there for the paella. but i was dissapointed. the paella that we have is bland and its not worth the $60 that we paid for. but other wise the garlic shrimp is good and the olives.
Good healthy good choices. Wonderful, pleasant service
Really pleased with the space, the ambience, service and most importantly the quality of the meal. Paella was excellent. Decent wine list too.
Had breakfast there and neither of us could finish our meals. These were so greasy they were impossible to eat. Really a shame, but you should stay away from their breakfasts.
I think the food is too greasy. Our cuisine is truly not that way. The paella we’ve had the last time we were here (we wanted to give the restaurant a second chance) was awful, extremely dry and tasteless.
As a true spaniard, I don’t recommend this place. There are tons of better choices in the city.
Everything we ordered was amazing. Was tempted to order more but was too stuffed. Would definitely come back and try other items.
Wonderful place for quick bites or if you order several you can make an excellent meal!
Awesome food and service
Service was slow and not very responsive. Ordered the paella and was told it would be 35-40 minutes. Ordered some tapas to help with the long wait time. Ordered the bacon wrapped dates and the meatballs. Both $14.00 each. Received 4 small dates and 3 small meatballs. Are you crazy with those prices?!?!
They weren’t worth $14.00. $8.00 max for the size of them.
Excellent food and service but very noisy and air conditioning was broken so it felt suffocating.
