Bostonia Public House Ratings and Reviews
Definitely go for the appetizer and dessert! Entrees were fine (I got salmon, my friend the risotto which is a GIANT portion), but the Tater Tot Poutine and Sweet Potato Doughnuts were amazing and the best parts of our meal. Nice window booths that look out onto the street. Not many people hanging around the bar, possibly because it was Monday. Service was a bit lackluster but nothing to complain about either. Would come back.
My burger was fine, but nothing that special. I think it was trying to be more than it was, and should probably be pulled back a bit. My gf got the lamb pasta dish and it had no flavor. The lamb was bland, and the noodles had no taste. Not even a hint of salt in the water.
The service was excellent. It started with the hostess. We were very early for our reservation. When we checked in we were told that the table was opening up soon. The hostess offered to get us drinks from the bar while we waited. The waiter was also attentive throughout the meal. The food was good, too.
The piano is nice but is blasted throughout the restaurant so loudly that you won't be able to hear anyone you're sitting next to, unless they're shouting (which everyone else in the restaurant is, making it even harder to hear).
The drinks were particularly bad, we had to send one back because it was pure alcohol instead of an old fashioned. If you opt for wine, avoid the "house" selection which was worse than the cocktails.
The starters were fine, but the salads and pastas were unbearable as well. The 'cobb' salad has diced chicken that tastes rubbery and deli meat-ish, and the lemon kale pasta tastes like it was made with sparkling wine on accident - there was something carbonated about it, with way too much lemon, as if the lemon rind was in the pasta noodles themselves. Both the salad and the pasta should've been sent back - every bite was unbearable.
I had lunch with my friends. We all ordered the prix fixe lunch that started with the chowder. My chowder was noticeably smaller in quantity. Also in my cup was a half of a red potato. So as a result I has a few spoonfuls. I told the server this when she asked how the chowder was.
She said she would inform the kitchen and asked if I would like more chowder. I responded that I did and truly appreciated her offer.
Our bill included the three prix fixe charges and a $$6.00 charge for the additional chowder.
This is so inappropriate. If she informed us of the choice for an additional charge I would have declined.
I do not feel I could return to a place that does this
Very busy night, live band was good but waiter was very pushy and would hardly give us enough time to look at menus, kept coming back a minute later and we had to continually say we hadn’t decided yet. Asked for burger medium and the thing came out like a hockey puck. Definitely food was not worth what it cost. Probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.
Loved this place. Was just visiting Boston for a long weekend and stumbled upon it by accident- and needing shelter on a sunny 26 degree day!
Had the clam chowder and burger. Great combination. Good beer selection too.
You can’t go wrong here.
Would definitely go back!
Had a great time for brunch with a bachelorette party. They have an amazing bloody mary bar where you can craft your own - I've never seen anything like it! The ambiance was great, there was a live musician who blended nicely (not too overbearing) and the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely good for a special occasion, but would go back any day really. Not from the area but I wish I was!
My girlfriend and I were visiting from Baltimore and went to Bostonia for Sunday brunch since we saw on Yelp that it was rated pretty well and was only a few blocks from our hotel. We were not disappointed! The food was incredible and the live entertainment was on point.
Even though it doesn't seem like a sexy option, the yogurt parfait was out-of-this-world delicious, and is a must-order! The poutine tots were a perfect second appetizer to balance out the sweetness of the parfait. We also got the short rib entree to share, which was fantastic. If we weren't hung over, we would likely have indulged in the bloody mary bar as well.
We stopped in for a quick dinner on a Thursday night. The main level of the restaurant was very noisy, which was to be expected on a Thursday night. The upper level dining area where we sat was quieter but still not exactly quiet. We shared the polenta fries as an appetizer and they were very good. I had the ribs and sauté spinach as my dinner. The spinach was good but the ribs were oddly spiced and there was no sauce. They were not good enough to finish. The other dinner choices were the scallops and a dinner salad, which were both good.
First time at this establishment as I was visiting my son who's a freshman at Berklee School of Music. My only complaint is that once I was ready to place my order the waitress remembered that she forgot to inform our table that they were out of French Toast and so this was a bit disappointing as waffles were not an option and I'm actually a vegetarian so most of the other things on the menu did not appeal to me. I had to settle for pancakes which I really did not want to order.
The service is excellent but the food is the gem. Been there three times and each meal was terrific. It gets crowded with the after work crowd and then it's quite noisy, but after that it gets better and more to my liking. Always look forward to a meal when in Boston.
