Borough Ratings and Reviews
Went for an anniversary dinner and requested a two top that wouldn't be feel terribly crowded. They happily accommodated that request and we got a table in the corner with windows on 2/4 sides. We had the beef tartare, lamb meatballs, brussel sprouts, and beef entree. All of them were amazing, with the beef tartare probably standing out the most. The ambiance was great for a date, but not too dark.
Great service, there before we needed anything, authentically friendly, food arrived at the perfect times.
Can't recommend it enough, the only negative was the price tag, but that shouldn't scare you away.
Nice to try a new restaurant and have a great experience. Enjoyed the variety of brunch items. Service was very good and prices reasonable. Especially liked that they support Second Harvest Heartland with food for the hungry when you purchase a glass of wine from their selected list.
Upon our waiter's suggestion we all had burgers - we were sitting by the kitchen so we could watch everything being prepared. BEST burger I've ever had....bar none! Highly recommend this restaurant. While it was a little loud, the atmosphere was conducive to a wonderfully fun night out with friends. Can't wait to go back again very soon!!!
Great food! Our server was a bit slow getting to our table when we first got there (about 10-15min) but was very attentive after greeting us. First, second and third courses were absolutely phenomenal. Our table all shared the lefse, soup and beef tartar for the first. Recommend the beef tartar and lefse! We got the Brussels and pork belly for the second and the chicken, scallops and steak for the third. Everything was so delicious!! Dessert was okay, I’d pass on it next time. We got the sorbe and funnel cake.
Pretension at its best! Had a lovely champagne by the glass to start. Ordered two First plates, steelhead trout and tuna carpaccio. Both were lovely and quite different. Steelhead was more evenly flavored enveloped in herbs, dusted with smoked creme fraiche, and laid atop a sweet muddling of beets. I missed a strong caper or radish flavor as they were strewn about rather haphazardly. Those would have balanced the almost applesauce texture and sugar of the beets. Tuna is one of my favorite delicate flavors. It was obliterated by the strong mix of briny kalamatas and gleek-inducing pickled mustard. The "rye crisp" amounted to a graham cracker-like sand dumped all over the filleted tuna. The crunch of its original form would be welcomed. My friend enjoyed her (rather small) helping of lamb meatballs and her soup (part of which was surprisingly and purposefully cold). The lighting is quite uneven. Our table was directly under a spotlight whereas the tables by the windows were so dark, I saw a few diners use their phones to illuminate the menu.
Delicious and inventive food! Perfect portions. Very tasty, handcrafted cocktails! I requested an off the menu cocktail and received a perfect drink to enjoy- made my evening complete! Front of the house staff was friendly, helpful & fun! They even indulged us by taking our group photos. Thank you everyone for a perfect night out with the hubby!
I was visiting Minneapolis from out of state and booked a reservation at Borough at the suggestion of my client. Every aspect of the dining experience was positive, from the ambiance and location (North Loop) to the friendliness of the staff and accessible parking. We also appreciated that the noise factor was minimal which can be a problem in other restaurants. As for the food, Borough did not disappoint! The menu is small and not overwhelming in choices and offered familiar dishes with a fresh, local spin. Everything we tried, including the appetizers, second plates and entrees were exceptional and beautifully prepared and plated. The portions were perfect and desserts were equally unique and delicious. My one suggestion for improvement would be an expanded beer selection including more local offerings. 5 STARS!
We absolutely loved our meal at Borough! We went with a gift card for our 5-year anniversary.
Neither my husband or I are that into fish or sea food; so we thoroughly enjoyed the chicken with fingerling potatoes, brussel sprouts with figs and tofu, and our chocolate dessert.
Our waitress was friendly and attentive, but not overly so. They brought my husband a different drink when he wasn't a fan of the beer he had originally gotten (he had a few sips, but we weren't charged).
It was quiet and we had a table next to the windows, which made for good people watching.
The only thing I can think of that wasn't great was our busser who smelled very strongly of smoke.
Other than that small thing, that didn't detract from our evening at all, the night was lovely. The food was excellent and filling, the staff friendly, and the dessert was devine. I'd definitely go here again.
Went for a special dinner on a Saturday night. Booked a reservation two days in advance. Showed up a couple minutes before and we were promptly seated. Table for two near the front window was not very intimate but perfectly acceptable for a busy restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful and an overall “hip” place, but our service that evening was surprisingly very slow. Our waitress was very unattentive and not very friendly. Drinks took 15 minutes to get and mine was wrong. So I waited another 5 minutes. Food was nicely presented but a little bit blah. I Thought the lefse salad was very good. Sweet potato was very good albeit very rich (doesn’t need the aoli sauce). Octopus was my favorite. Pork main course was pretty blah but cooked well. We skipped desert as non looked appealing and went down to parlour for drinks after. All and all 3 1/2 stars. Would try other restaurants before returning.
to start I ordered the mussel and cucumber soup, it was a little hard to eat because the herb sprigs were so big and the spoon was small, I equate the difficulty to eating a salad with a spoon. the Soup was mediocre at best just not much in the way of flavors. My Girl friend started with a salad which by the way was unusually salty.
Main Courses came: Scallops for her and Halibut for me, both of our dishes were over salted the food was cooked to perfection but somewhat ruined by the salt bath these items took. rather disappointing considering the bill was over $121 dollars. even the complimentary bread had a ton of salt in the butter. Not Impressed!
We were very satisfied with 3 out of 4 of our choices: the quail, sweet potatoes and scallops. However, I was quite disappointed with the halibut, which I usually love. It was overcooked, and it could have been cod. Fish requires a delicate touch.
We also enjoyed the cocktails.
I went for brunch and I really wanted to like my experience at Borough. I loved the ambiance and the location. The service was fabulous and the coffee and cocktail was good. However, I was less than impressed with the food. For the most part the food was just ok, there are so many better places for brunch, in my opinion. My partner got the crab scrambled eggs. The dish had an incredibly strong fish smell and there was a bunch of liquid at the bottom making the eggs soggy. I would definitely go back but just for drinks.
Dinner for our wedding anniversary. Drinks at Parlour before dinner were awesome. 7pm seating and the place was dead. Service came without a smile, and our attendant was rather surly. Mussel soup had a couple of mussels and a whole lot of greens, disappointing. Lamb meatballs and tartare were delicious, but the pork belly was the star of the show. Overall, in Minneapolis at least, i would say they better pick up the pace of they will be left behind soon.
