We celebrated our anniversary and the staff couldn’t have been more professional & attentive. The food was excellent with steaks cooked perfectly. The interior design is special...It’s just a shame they can’t enforce the “formal attire” shown on this app. Most of the men were in tee shirts, shorts, jeans and/or flip flops. That really took away from the decor. And like every other restaurant these days, the noise level is on the high side.
Our lives are relatively short so choices mater. My wife was celebrating her 60th Birthday so I was hoping for something special. The food was incredible. Every member of the staff we came in contact with was so engaging and attentive. It’s not easy to get everyone on your staff to agree that yes it’s a job but that each contact means a lot to everyone.
The best 24oz bone-in I have had in many years.
Outstanding service. Yummy food, recommend bone in rib eye, mashed potatoes and Caesar salad! Would have enjoyed more vegetable choices. Leeks or carrots not appealing to me, but that is just me.
Everything exceeded my expectations. first course was yellowtail crudo that was served on a dish with a glass cover with wood smoke inside - literally smoked the fish all the way to the table. This and all other conceptual dishes were executed righteously. Will definitely return
The food and service were good but not outstanding. The ambience was lovely to look at but the music seemed less classy and more clubby. My steak was so salty I couldn’t finish it.
Not worth the money.
Service was good, sommelier was knowledgeable. But, tables were very close to each other - probably 15" apart. So, not the best place for anniversary or romantic dinner. As others have mentioned, the tables were uncomfortable. When I cut my steak, the plate kept sliding on the table.
We found it odd when the waitress had to leave, but took time to inform just few of her guests. One would expect she would do the same for all her guests. We had to wait 45 minutes for the sommelier. Probably restaurant needs more sommeliers?
We had bone-in ribeye and Lobster thermidor. The prices were reasonable, but the taste was mediocre.
I would not recommend this restaurant for anniversary or romantic dinner. Probably Ok for business entertainment.
Overpriced meat hard. Service was adequate. Table uncomfortable. Positioning of the dining tables don’t make sense.
Very expensive for middle class, and very noisy. However, the ambiance and delivery was quite unique.
They wouldn’t do table side service because they sat us in a terrible spot. It was our anniversary and I don’t think we will be back even though we enjoyed the food because it’s supposed to be about the experience and it was really disappointing.
Fabulous food in a fantastic location and gorgeous ambiance! Pleasant servers, excellent wait staff (Katie), very helpful and discerning with recommendations. Went with my daughter while visiting her in San Diego and just dreaming of going back for the Steak Tartare and Salmon cooked in parchment paper with seasonal vegetables, etc. Manhattan made tableside, lovely! Overall, loved the food, atmosphere, well versed staff...just a wonderful evening in a beautiful setting.
It was delicious and very very kind and attentive staff.
Excellent service and staff! Perfected classic appetizers like table side Cesar salad and omelette. Even the house salad was amazing! Made me want to try the steak tartare next time. No spring mix in site! Instead there was a pool of delicious burrata and fresh bib lettuce. This is not your run of the mill Big chain steak houses frequented by middle aged businessmen. The sides were not your typical line up of sautéed mushrooms, creamed vegetables, and other heart attack inducing overpriced veggies. The roasted leeks, haricot vert/corn medley, picture perfect carrots were delightful. Made me almost forget that we were there to eat beef. Seriously decadent and overwhelmingly good service!
Awesome spot, loved the ambiance and food. Everything went incredibly well as he night progressed. the waitress and waiter were very professional and knowledgeable about the menu. Our waiter knew a lot about the variety of meats we were offered and gave us a lot of great information regarding the wet aged and dry aged steaks.
BAR lived up to it’s reputation! The food was excellent and the service was top notch! Chris our server was awesome and the whole team was great. The Caesar salad prepared at the table was delicious and the food (appetizers and main course) were perfect. Get the Robuchon potatoes!
Amazing Experience, Great staff, delicious food and gorgeous meat! Completely fall in love with this beautiful restaurant, the Best in San Diego !
Service was excellent. Filet and carrot cake were divine!
We live in Little Italy and eat out a lot so it’s nice to have something different. The design is great, love the retro vib, from the music played on reel to reel to the brass bar seats/fixtures and crystal decanters. The liquor cart w/ Tableside cocktails was fun to watch. Service was good, bar tender was fun too. We had a late reservation so the fact that we had to wait 25 min more to be seated wasn’t good, although I understand how things back up later in the evening . I gave the restaurant four out of five stars because the food was very average for the price. Our bill was the same as what we’ve paid at other San Diego restaurants but not memorable, that being said, the foie gras in the jar w/toast was amazing!!! I’d say go for that and a cocktail and move on for dinner.
The food was delicious and was paired with outstanding service. Some of the decor and overall theme of the place is a little pretentious, but the food itself, which is why you should be going there, is the complete opposite. You will be dropping slightly more than you would for a meal in the neighborhood, but can still be worth it depending on what you get.
Our waitress was GREAT! Loved the halibut...Huge piece, perfectly done.
Awesome food and great ambience. Would highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a good steak and drink.
The only downside is the cost to value of B&R. The service and quality are always on par with what is expected.
Bastante caro pero la comida muy buena y el servicio tambien
This meal was far superior from similar restaurants. Everything from the decor, ambiance and elements of service were very well thought. Danielle was amazing and I will definitely be back to see her. Thank you BAR team!
Delicious excellent meal with wonderful service. My business partners were duly impressed! We will return on many future occasions. Thank you!
Great experience but very pricey relative to other options. They did do a special dessert for my wife’s Birthday as she is dairy free which was greatly appreciated.
Came from Portland, would def visit again! The best food and atmosphere!
Visiting San Diego for work and decided to check out the rooftop bar. So glad I did. One of the best meal experiences I have ever had. Bartender Julio was amazing. Set me up with his recommended drink to cool off after I told him what I liked. Ordered the carpaccio that they added to the menu. Great dish. Julio let me sample some wines before ordering a glass. Wine by the glass choices are varied and distinct. They also have some not on the menu so be sure to ask. Hung out for a while drinking wine and never felt rushed or pressured to order. Ended up with the Bone-in NY and Robuchon potatoes. I don't say this lightly but it was the best steak I have ever had. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Can't recommend this place enough.
Overall great! The interior is stunning! The service is impeccable. Do not miss the table side cocktails and Caesar salad. Delicious and fun. The steaks are excellent and the potatoes Rubochon are to die for. We brought my son here for his birthday and was pleased with the acknowledgment he received from the hostess to the server to the manager. This restaurant does not miss a beat. Definitely checkout the upstairs bar - very cool and energetic. And, on a side note, nicest bathrooms in town.
This is a must visit while in San Diego. Enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience.
We sat downstairs, however on a summer evening the top floor outdoor seating is infinitely preferable with great views and ambiance.
The t- bone steak was outstanding and ultimately that’s what matters. The appetizers (carpaccio, meatball and green salad) and sides (leeks, gnocchi) were good but not memorable.
The setting, decor and service are great and the wine list extensive.
Excellent seared froi Gras and steaks. Too noisy for our anniversary though. It was just the two of us and we couldn’t hear our waitress or each other. Otherwise it was good.
Great place! Will be going back soon
Birthday! We had a wonderful time and will absolutely be back
One of the most memorable dining experiences in San Diego! Born and Raised has melded old school tradition of meal preparation table side like Steak Diane and Ceasar Salad both of which we had and gave it high marks. The Steak Diane was juicy and tender cooked to perfection. I shared mine and it was plenty! The Ceasar Salad was delicious not salty as some previous reviews have commented. The bar is raised at this establishment and the best part is the service. This restaurant is not only architecturally beautiful with it’s retro feel and use of wood but has a strong thread of elegance, charm and sophistication.
The Restaurant’s architecture is simply amazing. The food was cooked to perfection. Loved the steak tartar topped with cilantro, the crudo, gnocchi’s and steak were delicious too.
A must in downtown San Diego.
The upstairs bar is also very nice.
The food here is fantastic, the drink selection is numerous, however don't forget to bring your wallet, we were a party of four and our bill was over 600
We had an outstanding time service was excellent the food was very good .
What a wonderful surprise we walked into! The woodwork is very impressive as is the seating. A friend recommended this as a must go to on our anniversary vacation trip to San Diego.
We celebrated my husband's birthday at Born & Raised. He has eaten at many of the top steakhouses and, by comparison, rated his dry-aged bone-in ribeye among the best. There were numerous interesting vegetarian starters and sides for me to make a meal out of. The service was exceptional!
