House of Blues Restaurant & Bar - San Diego
Born & Raised exceeded my expectations. I celebrated a birthday there this weekend and I felt like a QUEEN. The ambiance is so fun and glamorous but what stood out even more was the service. From the greeters, to the servers and everyone in between were exceptional. They made us feel so comfortable without losing the high quality service one would expect from a superior establishment. It was an absolute pleasure and an unforgettable experience. Thank you B&R!
Either we had an unusually bad experience, or the people who love this place have never had a good steak. We both ordered the expensive dry aged steaks (rib eye they all seem to recommend the same apps and sides to everyone. Our server didn't offer any re-do with our charred steaks because he didn't know they were cooked incorrectly. And the wine/glass menu is a joke for a steak house.
The service, ambience and presentation was excellent. However, the food was did not exceed my expectations. The lobster was bland and the ribeye steak (without bone) tasted like it was previously frozen. This was super disappointing because it was $130 just for 2.5 lbs of lobster (weight includes shell) so in reality you only get half the weight in lobster meat and its tastes like boiled lobster, just super bland. As for the ribeye, I've cooked better tasting steaks at home from a local Sprouts grocery store, grass fed of course. Who knows how healthy the meat is from a restaurant....Entree portions are large enough to share. I am 6 months pregnant and it was my birthday celebration, so indulging on a delicious dinner I didnt have to cook was the plan! I came with a group of 6 females and we all agreed that the food was mediocre. I would definitely recommend this place for cocktails and appetizers but for the main course it is way too over priced to for quality of food. There is a seasonal butternut squash that we ordered as a side and it was super bland and not very good. The pear salad was by far my favorite and the bread roll was great! If you are a coffee person, I highly recommend the espresso martini. Like I said, service, ambiance, and presentation is exceptional. But we went there to have an excellent dinner and had no problem paying for a grand meal, but unfortunately quality did NOT match the price. They do accommodate glutenfree and vegan options too. Overall, if you want to spend a lot of money with a beautiful scenery and 'okay' food, this is the place to go!
The omelette was my main course and I wished it was served at the same time as my husbands steak. Otherwise the experience was near perfect. Thank you for all the birthday wishes!
We celebrated our after wedding here and it was 10/10 worth it. The service was great, food and drinks were above expectations. Thank you to Roberto for making our special day so amazing!
Everything was amAzing and service so quick and attentive.
Absolutely beautiful view of downtown SD on the top floor patio and the inside decor is like being in The Great Gatsby movie! A must try for date night or any special occasion!
We loved everything about it, especially the service, our waiter Andrew advised us the Caesar Salad was big enough to share and also had the chef slice our fabulous ribeye which we also shared. The whole service team was very attentive and very professional, made our anniversary that much nicer. After dinner we headed upstairs to a fabulous bar and great view of Little Italy. A fun night for sure.
Experience was superb
Such a unique dining experience! The ambiance was so romantic and cozy. Beautiful decor and style! The food was amazing and the staff was very informative and professional. Amazing service! Would highly recommend
We celebrated my love’s 50th birthday, we were visiting from Nashville, and it was delicious and a lovely atmosphere. We met some locals at dinner the previous night (clearly foodies) and they suggested this place and it did not disappoint! Martinis and ice cream made table side with dry ice, gorgeous interior designs, and the perfectly prepared and seasoned steak, can’t complain!
Meatballs and hash browns had to be sent back way too salty. Everything else fantastic
Amazing food and restaurant. It is super pricey! Don’t plane on leaveing under $150 with tip! Drinks are also really expensive! You are paying for a wonderful location and experience... I will go back when I get another gift card made the experience more affordable!
I want to very much express that the service was excellent besides having an 8:30 reservation and having it be pushed to 8:45. The food was less than exhilarating. I had ordered quite a bit too considering it was a Valentine’s Day dinner but not one thing really seemed to amaze me. My steak which had been ordered Medium Rare was rare nearing the side of raw. The lobster tails felt like rubber but the claws were good. ALL of my cocktails were awful. Adding more alcohol is not a service to me, it just makes the drink unbearable.
The ambiance was incredible. I just wish the bar wasn’t right behind the seating. It made it difficult to have a conversation without screaming across the table.
We went in on February 13th and were late for our reservation but the hostess’ were kind enough to save our table even though it’s not something they normally do. Danielle was our server, and she was absolutely amazing. We had so many questions and not only was she patient, but incredibly knowledgeable about everything they had. She helped us choose everything which ended up being: the table side Caesar salad, hash-browns, beef Wellington, and the steak sampler. The table side salad was prepared by Armando who was very nice and accommodating. He also cut up the Wellington in front of us with good service. The sampler was obviously the winner of the night but everything was incredible. Marlen, the servers assistant, continually kept our water glasses filled and brought good conversation to the table with friendly service. Everything was wonderful about our experience here but the staff definitely made it that much better!
Amazing table side service with bar and dining items. They had an off the menu grass feed and finished filet that was amazing. But, nothing can compare to the beef tartare made table side. It was exceptional and a must have when you visit.
The food was amazing and the service was great! My wife and I are already making plans to return!
A truly unique and memorable experience. This place has incredible energy, and, looking around the room, it was obvious what an enjoyable evening everyone had.
Food was simply outstanding, and u can’t visit without ordering at least one table side item. We had three, and each was just great.
Service is incredibly crisp, professional, but the staff are obviously encouraged to use their unique personalities, and they surely did.
This place is expensive, no doubt, but we’ll worth it compared to all other high priced San Diego nightspots.
The food was really good and also the service. The noise level was high but that's ok.
One of San Diego's best restaurants! Great food, superb ambiance, and great staff. Go early, have a drink upstairs then enjoy your dinner!
Excellent food and great ambiance. Upstairs patio bar is an experience all on its own. Beautiful restaurant
Fantastic service. We enjoyed the many table side options: Martinis, Caesar, and Steak Diane.
The cream puff dessert was phenomenal
We were celebrating 2 birthdays. It was a happy time.
Great for special occasions.
Beautiful detailed restaurant and bar areas. Loved the Miami Moderne look in all wood, glass, and metal. Surprisingly, for a very busy restaurant, the hostess was very pleasant and efficient. Waitress (Emily) and server were also excellent, friendly, engaging throughout our two plus hour meal. Loved loved loved the food.
Disappointed. I am not sure how I started with high expectations for this meal, maybe it's from the reviews, maybe it's the vibe, or maybe it's the price. This is probably one of the most disappointing meals I have had.
We ordered the steak sampler and the beef Wellington.
The steak sampler. For $150, you got a few tiny pieces of 4 different kinds of "steaks". You might wonder, with "steaks" cut into this tiny and thin, how could they be juicy and tender? Then you asked the damn right question. If you are thinking, in order to charge $150 for so little meat, the tastes must be top-notch, right? Then you are damn wrong. I guess if you have never tried Japanese waygu before, or never had a decent real-sized nicely-aged steak, or $150 vs $50 doesn't make a difference for you, then might be you won't be so disappointed. To me, it felt like a fraud.
The beef Wellington... They started by removing the two ends of the pastry (not sure why..), then instead of slicing it into 4 eatable pieces like how it's traditionally served, they cut it into 2 giant chunks. Then they sit the pastry on top of MASHED potatoes. I just couldn't believe what I saw.. why would you do that to a pastry that was baked to golden brown? How would mashed potatoes, in any way on Earth, enhance the beef Wellington?
The duxelles had little flavors, overruled by the mashed potatoes. Gravy is also very average. I don't think some truffle taste is too much to ask for $150, but too bad. To be fair, the beef and the pastry could be worse. It's like I had some not so bad stewed beef, plus bread mixed with mashed potatoes.
Empty bread plates were left on my table until I have no more space to eat, got a wrong bill at the end, but those are all understandable since they are very busy, it's ok.
Music on the first floor was loud and fast, leaving me feeling rushed and uneasy.
Although I wouldn't recommend the food I ordered, but you have to go, I would recommend the second floor.
Best steak dinner I’ve ever had! Great food and ambiance.
Food was awesome. It was a little bit loud but over all my entire experience was great.
Amazing as always. This place is a must try. Worth every penny.
Incredible food. Incredible drinks. Best gin martini I’ve ever had. The steak was some of the best I’ve ever had. Extremely expensive but well worth it. Service was top class as well.
Amazing food and service! Must have tableside Caesar and ice cream!
Excellent food coupled with a gorgeous view of the city. Waiters were consistently helpful and a pleasure to talk with. We will be making a special trip to come back to this dinning experience.
First time there , friendly staff, very informative about there foods ,waiter was very friendly ,service was great , good cocktails , just the right amount of food, will add this to our places to eat again!!
My wife and I ate at born and raised. The space was beautiful. The ambience was terrific. We both had a different steak with peppercorn. We shared potato purée and a butternut squash side. They also offer some fun preparations table side. The little Italy neighborhood is also interesting. The service was outstanding. It is expensive and worth it for a special occasion.
Very good steak and great service. Will go again for sure.
From the Table Side preparation of Appetizers, to the large selection of Steaks, topped off with incredible desserts and outstanding service, 5 Star's across the board. Definitely coming back when I'm in San Diego.
Over the top awesomely ridiculous! From the drop dead gorgeous atmosphere, attentive service and amazing food, every detail of our experience was perfect. I’ll come back to SD for Born and Raised alone
We liked Born and Raised so much we dined there two nights in a row! The food was excellent, the atmosphere and decor are fabulous and the restrooms are a destination in and of themselves! I never finish my meal but I cleared my plate here. We highly recommend Born and Raised!
Very impressed with the attention to detail, from the service to the food presentation and delivery. My wife and I had a great time.
This place blew my mind. I loved everything about it, from the ambiance to the food and evert in between. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. One of the best restaurants I've ever been to!
It was amazing. Love the atmosphere, food and drinks.
