The American steakhouse is an iconic restaurant institution. We’d wanted to tell that story for years, but waited until we had the skill, talent and ability to execute it properly, and the right space to be our canvas, an important corner in Little Italy, a neighborhood where we have deep roots. We brought an almost academic appreciation for steakhouse history and tradition to Born & Raised, while trying to stay relevant and authentic to ourselves and our city. Our dry-aged beef pays tribute to earlier, earthier, pre-government grading practices and is the centerpiece of a meal best savored at a slow pace.     Reed did a very good job in helping us navigate the menu. We needed up with the Caesar salad, 8 oz filet, 4os lobster tail, and the potato puree. The staff made sure they cleared our salad plate and were never out of water.

    Phenomenal experience start to finish. The staff are so polite and attentive. The food was excellent, loved the drinks. Atmosphere is wonderful. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion!

    Disappointed. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff congratulated us but put us right next to a family with loud kids. Killed the whole experience for us. What made it worse was the restaurant was fairly empty with many people empty tables that would have given us privacy. We felt like we had to whisper our conversation and the one kid had an annoying loud voice and was about 24 inches from us. We have kids and love children but not during a special dinner that costs us $400. Will not be returning

    We were disappointed with the feel and taste of the steak. My husband ordered an aged Ribeye steak for his birthday.It was very chewy. He asked for a regular ribeye instead was still was very disappointing.

    oh my gosh, this dining experience was so disappointing. We booked for my daughters birthday, and even with a reservation and the restaurant being quite empty, we had to wait for our table. The food took forever to come only for our steak and several of the dishes to arrive cold and of course we sent them back. The steak was reheated, in most of my dining experience at the top steakhouse they would have replace the entire steak. we will not be back, and unfortunately, it was not a memorable experience for our special occasion.

    Our server was a #1 at best after taking 25 minutes to bring our drinks. We arrived for a 4:30 reservation with few customers on site and 4 bartenders working, so we were confused by the delivery delay. Next, he requested we return one of our menus before we had even ordered! He returned twice without asking if we needed any drink refills, so I went to the bar to order my wine. At about 6:15 our poor server told us he was going on a 30 minute break..hooray!

    atmosphere was very good ,service was slow . my friend ordered a glass of champagne and was flat and we had to return it .we ordered two filet one medium and one mediun well .both were under cooked and we send back to the kitchen to be recooked . the whole experience was not pleasant.

    The servers were really lacking for such an expensive and upscale restaurant. We were assigned a server and after our first drinks were informed he would be on break for 30 mins. This seems like really poor planning. Then the person filling in for him was nice but we asked about the bottle price of a particular wine offered by the glass. She said it was probably available and we could just multiply the cost of the single glass to get an idea of the cost. I suggested that that meant there was no economic incentive to purchasing the bottle then and she replied that’s it’s usually more cost effective to buy the bottle. Ummm… maybe if we had been told the cost we would know. The food was delivered in stages even though it was two steaks and a bunch of sides. It was weird it didn’t all arrive together. Our server came back from break and never checked on how our order was. It was hard to find him when it came to ordering another glass of wine. Was just very uninspired and surprisingly not attentive.

    Visiting from San Francisco over the Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoyed a really delicious meal. Favorites were the French 75 cocktail, table-side Caesar salad, smoked chicken, 8 oz filet with bleu cheese, hash browns, the burger (omg) and the cheesecake with apple topping. Get there early. Parking is a challenge. (Valet parking is available.)

    Love it!! We had corn soup which was amazing and then we had wagyu sampler all delicious! Server very attentive and knowledgeable! Cons: lack of parking, hard to make reservations, minimal choice where we can sit! Overall amazing food!

    I made a reservation a few weeks ago for a birthday. There were only two of us, but unfortunately we got sat right next to the kitchen. That made it a little noisier and dampened the ambience a bit. Our server was nice, but she charged me for an extra drink and accidentally sent someone over to make us a table side salad that we didn’t order. She was kind about the mistakes but it was just an extremely pricey meal and the little things mixed with being right next to the kitchen and all the staff taking a break from the floor made the experience a bit underwhelming. At $100+ per person I was hoping for a true 5 star experience, but I would honestly give it a 3.5. I’ll try a different place next time! We honestly felt like we would’ve been just as happy with the food at shake shack down the street and saved a lot of time and money.

    Not a good anniversary date. When I go to fine dining I expect great service and great food which is the exact opposite of what I got at Born & Raised. We had to flag down our waitress for drinks and refills every single time, she checked on the table a total of one time on her own behalf. Next, the food we ordered was supposed to be medium and came out super dry at this point we are starving so we eat instead of opting another hour to get our meats. Overall the food and experience was disappointing, I would definitely not come back or recommend this place to anyone even if they paid me to do so.

    Was a little disappointed. Have eaten here before and it was excellent, but my steak this time was very poor quality. Hopefully, it was just a one time thing.

    Food and drinks were outstanding! We started with the bread and garlic and herb butter. We then each had the 8oz filets and roasted mushrooms, potato purée and mac and cheese. For dessert, we had the seasonal apple cheesecake and the amazing carrot cake. We finished with an after dinner drink - grasshopper. Each item was cooked and seasoned to perfection! The service was a bit slow - even for fine dining - but perhaps it was due to staffing issues and it being the week of a holiday. But it won’t deter us from going again!

    Every time we visit Born and Raised we have an amazing experience. The quality of service, drinks and food are the best that we have experienced in all of San Diego. We have visited many higher end restaurants in the city and Born and Raised has been our top spot for the past 2 years or so. Highly recommend

    Went to Born & Raised for our Anniversary. A5 Wagyu was amazing as well as the sides. Didn’t dissapoint. It had a real chill vibe and service was phenomenal.

    It was me and my husband’s wedding anniversary. We wanted to arrive early and the hostess was able to change our reservation to an earlier time which was nice. Definitely loved the table side Caesar salad, however it seemed to be quite busy for a Monday and we had to wait quite awhile for the table side service and our entree and dessert. I ordered the rack of lamb which was perfect. My husband ordered the bone in ribeye but it just was ok. I had better steak at other places for cheaper the price. The drinks were good!

    Service was very slow. Also, the food was just not as good as it has been in the past. Steak and lamb was great, as well as the eggplant, but the mushrooms and Mac n cheese weren’t as good.

    First time at this restaurant, celebrated my birthday. We were undecided on what to order with allergies to onions and shellfish. Our server was nice, ambiance was nice, just a little too dark, couldn't read the menu. We ended up ordering a Tomahawk Steak medium rare plus for the experience, it ended up being rare (too undercooked for us) but ate it anyways. Flavor was good, not what we expected. Thought it would have a lot more meat on it, it was mostly Fat, pretty disappointed. Ended up paying almost 250 dollars for it. Next time we go out I would not recommend it, I would probably order a classic cut ribeye steak. The sides we ordered were the seasonal veggies which was broccolini with shaved parmesan, mac n cheese, and the puree mash potatoes. All the sides were excellent. Also ordered the house bread, really good!!!

    Extremely slow service, we ordered some cocktails to start the night, they took almost 40 minutes to bring them! Regarding food, appetizer were brought in a timely manner but entrees took over an hour. The taste was excellent, though. Servers need a lot of training, definitely they need to improve their customer service. We talked to the manager about it (Jose, very professional. Your crew needs to learn from you).

    Rogue or how ever you spell his name one of the managers, extremely disrespectful and tons of attitude. He made my first time there such a horrible experience when I believe he could have handled it MUCH more effectively. He has no customer service skills and should not be working in that industry with such a NASTY attitude. the rest of the staff was polite. drinks were good.

    The atmosphere was great! Service very poor- food wait 1,5 hour on Thursday evening, drink wait 1 hour. We ordered Fillet and Ribye medium rare. Both steaks were raw, not just rare. We asked to cook it more, they did… but it was still very rare ( unable to chew at all). Mashed potatoes- very watery, no flavor. Meatball- raw in the center. Garlic butter for the bread- just garlic powder mixed with butter. Mushrooms- very dry. Hash browns - so deep fried, hard to eat, smelled like old oil. We liked the drinks. We did not complained at all, just paid our bill, but we will not be back. Consider this place for instagram pictures but not for the food.

    I’ve been to Born and Raised before, including for special occasions, and everything was great. But this time, when I decided to celebrate my birthday, it was upsetting. I started with a conversation with the receptionist on the phone with my request to move our reservation time. She sounded indifferent and felt like she was doing me a favor only by checking if it was possible, which she said no to. When we arrived, they had a four-person table for just two of us. We asked to be seated at the table for two, and they said no, and the table remained unoccupied almost until we left. Our server was friendly and attentive at first, but then wholly ignored us until we were ready for the check. It took a very long time for the main course, and while we were still considering ordering something else lost our appetite. Then they brought birthday macaroon, without offering us desserts or other drinks. If I ever come back here again, it won’t be for a special occasion.

    Ambiance 10/10, upstairs outdoor seating was nice Food was good but portion was a little small in my opinion even for a high end place. Drinks were good. Felt it was pricey for what you get. Liked it overall but value just not there for me to return any time soon.
