Born & Raised
Food served until 10pm Sun-Thur
Food served until 11pm Fri-Sat
This was my third visit and the experience was usual, great! Unfortunately, there’s a critical mistake where you guys consistently fail! When the servers bring the steaks to the table they mix up the orders. Misplacing the well done steak with the medium rare, etc., etc. that’s a huge mistake considering that on many occasions your patrons probably don’t catch it and they write it off as improperly cooked steaks. I strongly encourage your management to better train the servers and servers helpers to avoid this huge blunder! Aside from this, I am very pleased with everything else.
I hope this helps Born and Raised.
The restaurant is beautifully designed, but with mostly hard surfaces. As a result, the noise level was unpleasantly high. We could barely hear the server and could really not have a conversation. I found the noise level detracted enough from the experience that I would hesitate recommending BAR. Perhaps it would have been better to sit upstairs which is partially open. The staff directed us to downstairs when we made the reservations. On the plus side the Steak Diane was delicious, as was the Caesar Salad. I would not recommend the Potatoes Robochon, which were very rich, very runny mashed potatoes. Also a bit disappointed with the selection of sides. Very few green options offered to offset all the heaviness of the food. Might go back for a drink at the bar, which was very lively. Great wine list.
Birthday was great!
Our Anniversary. They brought us complementary champagne!
Amazing food, presentation and atmosphere
We were looking for a nice steak and fun restaurant while on vacation. We made a reservation and when we arrived our table wasn't ready, we had a cocktail in the lower bar while waiting and our table took much longer than expected so what I believe was the manager picked up our bar tab, offered to buy us an appetizer, and checked in with us several times. The bar tender Jen came over and gave us an excellent tutorial of the menu with unbelievable recommendations that we likely would have passed up. Once seated upstairs our server was excellent as well, the expediter who prepared our table side caesar was fun, informative, and very professional. The appetizer(burgundy snails) the new York cut and vegetable side was the best we had ever had. Unfortunately no room for dessert. We will be back for sure. 5 stars in our opinion even with the unexpected wait.
We went for a birthday and the service was outstanding! Great attention to detail. We were given the table with the best view, a birthday card, and complimentary dessert of our choice. Lovely dinner!
The steaks and service were outstanding. The cocktail was disappointing- smallest martini I’ve ever been served in a restaurant. Also,on the noisy side .
Really great service! We enjoyed most of the food (salads, steak tartare, meatball). The sauteed mushrooms were amazing. Unfortunately, the pork chop was overly fatty.
Excelente todo !!
Gabe was the best. We had an incredible experience. The food and drinks were over the top.
It was all super amazing. Had a great evening!
My husband and I went to born & raised for our anniversary and it was fabulous! The food, ambiance, service, all top notch. We will definitely be back and recommend to all our friends & family! PS get the Caesar salad!
By far the best dining experience I’ve had. Gabe was such a thoughtful server and fine-tuned our selections throughout the meal, offering up alternatives and extras based on our feedback. Very knowledgeable about the entire menu, friendly and conversational, but knew when to hang back and let us enjoy the experience.
I loved it! The food was great not to mention the feel of the place. Friendly staff made it perfect.
Our experience at Born & Raised was AMAZING! From the time we walked in to the hostess she wished us a "Happy Anniversary." We got there a bit early to find parking and had a drink at the bar. It was nice to have a well made drink that wasn't watered down.
We ordered the caesar salad (which was done table side) and it was probably the best caesar I've ever had. Our steaks melted in our mouth and we savored each bite. (I ordered the steak Diane, which is also done table side) It was also so nice to have an option for sparkling water at no additional charge.
The entire staff was extremely professional and polite. It was truly a rememberable experience!
It was beyond amazing. One of the best dining experiences and our waiter Gab was fantastic.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had
The BEST restaurant experience we have ever had. Our favorite restaurant FOR SURE! Everyone we encountered was amazing! Hostess, bartender upstairs, our waitress & waiter.. EVEN THE GM STOPPED BY! We celebrated our anniversary and was greeted by the GM with a card. I don’t think I’ve ever been treated this nicely on a special occasion. Not only the people but the food was so DELICIOUS! Tomahawk, amazing. Table side Caesar salad, amazing. The drinks, amazing. I’m definitely recommending this spot to everyone I know. We will be back!!! We are going to make it a mission to eat here once a month :) thank you Born and Raised for making this day so special... so perfect!
The food was very good, servers where attentive and the surroundings beautiful, the only thing that I didn’t like was the noise level but that went down after it got a little later.
Been here several times and overall this was the most disappointing. I was excited to bring clients here however we were seated in a booth with blinding sun light and they don’t have any shade options, my pork was under cooked and 70% fat, the service was slow and constantly had to ask for refills of drinks, and we felt rushed from the servers.
An amazing place, we would recommend to anybody. The food was out of this world. The ambience was unbelievably awesome. The staff is so attentive. Great cocktails, great wine list. Hands down one of the best restaurants we've been to.
We enjoyed the special night however it was disappointing to see the dress code so casual upstairs on the patio/bar area. The website did say formal yet shorts and flip flops were abundant
Great service! Staff did everything to make our special nice even more so.
Wonderful ambiance, servers had a cheerful, happy you are here disposition. Our filets were cooked to perfection, the potatoes rouchon and carrots were delicious. We topped it off with a maple drizzled creme puff. Drinks were mixed perfectly. An overall fantastic high end dining experince.
I love this restaurant's 1920's feel, very Gatsby. We sat in the Patio though and the sun was in our faces and very uncomfortable. so if you are going to be dining from 5:30 to 7:30 the outside booths are not a good idea.
We really enjoyed the overall experience. The service was second to none, the food was really wonderful and properly cooked. Jared made great recommendations and nothing was below our expectations. I had been here before and knew in advance how pricey it is. It's very expensive and I feel like certain things were just a pure rip off. Ordinary drinks for $20...Caesar salad (good but not mind blowing) for $24. The steaks were the highlight...also very expensive, but seemed a better value because they were so exceptional. If you come here, do it right and if you do it right, anticipate spending $200 per person.
We sat upstairs and had a wonderful evening. Some of the best service we've had in a long time in San Diego, thanks to Josh. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, not a robot and coordinated our meal like any good server should at a finer dining restaurant. We will definitely be back!
Unimpressed. Ribeye was a mediocre tasting cut of meat and had texture like it was frozen before. Goat cheese and leeks side dish?? Gross. Served two different kinds of martinis, though I ordered same style. Salad portions far too small and they serve the yellow bitter parts of Romaine. Very obnoxious patrons cat-calling other tables. Not a family place. Service was attentive but consistency and quality don’t exist here at this restaurant. I would not return to this establishment for dinner, though it appears to be a great place for happy hour.
Everything was fantastic from the service to the excellent food and decor
This place is not cheap, in any sense of the word. Be prepared for sweeps of lush wood, a gorgeous bar with an array of stunning bottles, and a gracious welcome at the door. This place is pure class in the style of early 1940s movies - an Art Deco dream done in natural tones and materials.
Instead of the more formal downstairs dining room, we opted for the upstairs open bar area. A bit more casual, but with no skimping on the service. The food was amazing,. My husband and I both ordered the filet and it did not disappoint. The Gnocchi Parisienne was light as a dream with a sauce straight from heaven. The service was solicitous without being cloying. Our server Matt, and Daniel who made our beautiful Caesar salad table-side were masters of hospitality. And the cocktails - now that's another world entirely.
All the bartenders were obviously very gifted, but we were lucky enough to have Nick Z. making our drinks that night. There's just something truly extraordinary when you see someone who at once embodies the spirit of creativity and hospitality, and there is stiff competition in this place when it comes to the latter as already noted. I'll be the first to say that I'm a sucker for truly exceptional cocktail and Nick's cocktails were off the charts delicious and well balanced. If you have the chance to get to Born & Raised and are lucky enough to find yourself under Nick's care at the bar, you'll see what I mean.
This is a place where you get what you pay for, in the best possible way. We floated down the stairs at the end of the evening thinking about the next time and what we might try.
Read about this in a San Diego magazine, tried it out and did not disappoint! My kind of restaurant, food was very well prepared, attractive, very tasty. Could watch everything coming through the pass! Wife and I totally enjoyed it! Right up there with Charlie palmer, Elways, the steak house, and ruth crisp. We will come back. Love the way the servers treated us.
Wonderfully traditional steakhouse with a "Great Gatsby" feel. Good for fun, lively get-togethers - would not recommend for a quiet evening or a business meal. It can get very loud! We had the dry aged bone-in ribeye, filet, Robuchon potatoes and mushroom fricassee. All perfect. To start with something fun, try the tableside prepared Caesar! So good!
Nothing special about Born and Raised besides the venue, which is very nice. The food however is not up to par with other local options featuring similar menus (Cowboy Star is a particular example), and is bit more expensive. The steaks were not spectacular, which they should be considering the price and presentation.
For a meal in this price range there are at least a dozen better choices within 5 miles.
It’s noisy. Food was pretty good but expensive. I don’t think we’ll go back. Good place for hip millennials but not your older clientele. Parking in Little Italy is always a challenge. So... meh.
Way too expensive for the meal
The steak was below average for 50?
Excellent service excellent food. One of the best steak houses in San Diego.
I've been to this restaurant half a dozen times and have spent 1000s of dollars on client dinners. I really want to love this restaurant but 50% of the time the service does not match the prices on the menu. We had reservations after our scheduled time and it took us 45 minutes to finally get a table. 20 minutes after we ordered we got the salad. The Porterhouse then came out cold and undercooked. We had to send it back twice to get it right.
I just wish Born and Raised could have consistent service. It's a wonderful atmosphere so I hope they eventually get it right.
Above and beyond, in terms of service, food quality and overall experience. We will definitely be back any opportunity we have.
Very nice. Celebrated a birthday. Was charged 5$ for the birthday dessert. Not right!
