Boqueron is a premier wine destination in the Rio Grande Valley, having won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its innovative selection of 130 wines—30 by-the-glass— and an educated wine team to guide guests at this petite wine + tapas bar in the heart of Historic Market Square in Downtown Brownsville, Texas.

Advanced Sommelier Vanessa Trevino Boyd hand-selected the wine list to include bottles from boutique wineries in California to old-vine vineyards in Spain. The experience includes a gem of a small plates menu designed to go hand-in-hand with the wine list.

Chef Eugenio Uribe’s menu features classic tapas—Pan con Tomate, but he’s also creative with Matrimonio with Lemon Butter. Other highlights include an American Wagyu Bavette and Jamon, including an Iberico de Bellota from 5 Jotas and a weekly selection of East Coast Oysters. His emphasis on the best ingredients from Spain and around the world is remarkable, as evidenced not only by 5 Jotas, but by Brujula conservas.

The evening at Boquerón Tapas & Wine was as if we were in the Basque Country in downtown Brownsville. Our table & staff were awaiting our arrival and the staff addressed our family by name. The attention to excellence was spot on from the food choices to the wine pairings. So many delicious options to choose from and served with the timing of a symphony. From the East Coast Oysters,Manchego and Membrillo, Crispy Squash Blossoms, Patatas Bravas garlic aioli, brava sauce Yellowfin Tuna, Gulf Shrimp (tastes like lobster) Maitake Mushrooms Morcilla de Burgos Torrija to the French Bordeaux & New Zealand Pinot Noirs we were unexpectedly delighted! Congratulations to culinary director Eugenio Uribe and the wait staff for an unforgettable dining experience.

What a find! Our experience at Boqueron was outstanding. The food was creative and delicious. Our server and additional service support was the best we've enjoyed in quite some time. Finally, the extensive wine menu was fun to explore. We will be back!

Charming place with a small but thoughtful list of classic and creative tapas and an extensive wine list. Strange that there is no tortilla! But everything we got was well executed and beautifully presented. Service was lovely. We loved it and will be back soon.

Boquerón is always a win. Had Beet salad with Ricotta … nice and fresh for summer heat. Papas bravas absolutely delicious. Spanish morcilla topped w pear is to die for. As always the wine selection and attention to great service … definitely my favorite spot for meeting w friends

The food was absolutely amazing. I haven’t had delicious tapas since visiting Spain. Everything was cooked to perfection and had wonderful flavor. Had the croquettes and patatas bravas. A little pricey, definitely delicious though.

Boquerón is a culinary gem! From the moment you walk in you are warmly greeted! Prepare yourself for carefully mastered culinary bits paired with outstanding and affordable wines! Chicken and Ham croquetas are perfect blend of flavors. We had special octopus tapa melt in our mouths! Beef Carpaccio paired w Pinot wine was heaven in a little bite.
